I don't know how to thank you enough man.. I've been more than 2 years with the sunroof "broken" (Panda), all the 'technician/fiat dealers" saying that it would have been too complicated to fix it, crazy prices etc etc.. I solved it now thanks to your video, in less than 10 min. Grazie!
Thanks for posting this. In N. America, our Fiat 500 sunroof switches are a bit different for some model years. I my case, I could not keep the roof fully-closed when holding the switch in the closed position (it kept popping up when held). I opened the roof fully, noticing it was almost fully open but still wasn't at its maximum. With ignition still on, I used the allen wrench to move it to fully-opened, and then held the switch in the "full open" position for about ten seconds, and then I held the switch to close, waited for full closure, and kept holding it for a while, and then switched the car off. That worked! Roof is once-again calibrated and working properly.
Sure! @@RazorBlade86 In the center of the roof, just behind the moonroof frame a few inches (towards rear of the car), you'll see a small plastic plug in the headliner. Remove that plug, and you'll see the head of the screw into which you insert the allen key. It will be stiff when turning that screw! When replacing the plug, insert it carefully to avoid crushing and breaking the pins that secure it.
@@Bobbr3 You totally helped me. I managed to fix my sunroof. In my Fiat 500L I have 2 allen key slots. One for adjusting the sunroof and the other to adjust the sunshade. While the ignition was on I opened the sunroof and manually forced it to move to its maximum position, but also made sure not to over tighten it. I pressed the button to close it (the sunroof moved intermittently), held it for 10 sec like you advised, but then released it and pressed again for another 10 seconds. The sunroof moved slightly to let me know it found its position and I turned off the ignition. Now the sunroof opens and closes perfectly and I have no more issues with it. I did the same exercise with the sunshade and it fixed it too. Thank you for saving me a considerable amount of money, I owe you one.
i might be having the same issue as you. similarly at least. north american 2015fiat 500 abarth. my sunroof vents normal but opening up it binds and gets stuck 1/3 open. its like something it stopping it. im wondering if out a parralel and check the motor
@@gri7 I can't determine your issue based on what you describe, but consider these things: 1) use the allen wrench I described to open the roof fully 2) lubricate the rails upon which the roof rides, using lithium or silicone grease (silicone will be invisible) 3) go through the calibration steps I shared. When roof is fully open, closely examine the rails, and you'll observe long plastic inserts within the rails. On my car, those plastic strips cracked in many places and some of them twisted, resulting in the roof movement being blocked when it encountered some of those twisted pieces! I greased the rails and turned the pieces until they aligned. That problem was solved! It's not ideal, but it is FAR less costly than replacing the parts, and it has held firm for several years. Note that if your roof won't fully open even when using the allen wrench, then you either have something blocking it (a broken part, such as the plastic strips in the rails, or misalignment due to a loose fitting somewhere, or the motor is way out of calibration). If necessary, follow the video's directions for accessing the motor, and see if it can be calibrated after moving it to its minimum or maximum ranges. I haven't done anything like that because I didn't have to, but it worth a shot as a last resort if the other suggestions don't work. Buona Fortuna!
I have not been able to use my sunroof for 4 years because I was told it would be over $300.00 (USD) to fix it. To my surprise this is exactly what was wrong and I fixed it in less than 5 minutes. Thank You!!
Thank you so much for your video. It only took me few minutes to find 2 loose screws. Fixing, and after 2 years my Skydome is working again. (Panda 169, Alessia) Only differens to Fiat 500, no calibration possible, but make sure the engine is in stop position before assembly

Thank you SOOO much!!! I fixed it by myself because of this video. To me they said it would cost minimum 500 euro’s and maximum 3000 euro’s. This is way too easy and costs zerooo🥳

You saved me time and money as the various mechanics i asked where telling me that the roof motor is broken etc which is a minimum of 250€ fix..... Hi! Thanks so much for this video! I’ve had this problem for years!!! Do you perhaps know the size and diameter of the screw? Unfortunately it has fallen behind the lining of the seatbelt column and there is no way to catch it.
My screw was out, i put it with a ratched, used the ratched to make sure that the other one was tight enough. Mine does not seem to go with the calibration. I tried to close it, it didn’t work and I tried to open it. Do you have a idea maybe?
I had the same issue as you but my roof was still tilting up and down (just not fully opening). I did the re-calibration but held the button the opposite way for 10 seconds instead and then it worked
I just bought Owned fiat 500 which is come with a sunroof , but the problem there is no switch could let me open it . Do you know about any trim of fiat that has fake sunroof ? Or there is hidden switch o did not find yet ? Counfused
Hello, fiat 500 2012 sport here. My screw was missing and it makes the exact same noise as the video. I followed the steps and towards the end when I hold the close button for 10 seconds, all I hear is a grinding noise. Is there a step that I missed? My sunroof will only open a bit with multiple short taps and close with short taps but has a continuous grind noise (as in the video) when I try to open it any further. Any advice?
Ok thank you for the response! Just from the info given, how much should I expect to pay at a mechanic for the fix? I want to see if it’s worth it. Probably will go by to see an estimate because I’m not savvy with sunroof motor and cables. Was hoping the video would help because it’s an identical sound!
