Fiat 500 tailgate release switch fault 

People continually say the "internet" is full of garbage. That may be true, but I find videos/help like this INVALUABLE! Here is another instance where a good citizen took time to help others. If not, I would've taken my 500e to a mechanic and 99% of the time, they would've lied to me with a story of how difficult/labor intensive this is and charged me $200 to do this. Thanks, Mate!

Thanks for this. Fiat garage wanted over £200 for the new unit + Fitting. Fixed in 10 minutes. I put a dab of superglue on the pins to stop it happening again too.

Thanks for this Video! Had the same prob.. Did the same job, but in the end, a little bit of WD-40 would have done the job without tearing this thing apart. Thanks! Now it's good as new.

This video was helpful. I could hear my lock clicking when I used the key fob, so I didn't think it was electrical. Without doing anything else, I sprayed some penetrant up at the exterior release latch, and it freed it enough to solve my problem.

My back door was also broken and the key fob didn't work. But you need to hold the switch for a long time to turn it on. Not sure what the problem is.

I am having this issue with my fiat. Where can I get the trim tool? I think I can fix it. And it looked like maybe grease was applied as well?

When you pry apart that fixture, can you replace the lights while it's apart? My license plate light on the right side is out.

Does this also cause the boot to not close? I have both issues.

I had the same problem but the fault wasn’t the same. Looks like there isn’t a voltage coming to the switch. Is there a fuse dedicated to the rear lock?

I had a similar problem. but not even my Key was able to open the trunk. i checked the complete harness for continuity and found 2 severed wires, welded them back together but the problem still persits. Do you know what might be the root cause and how it could be fixed ? thanks in advance

What did you do to fix the rods? Just moved them or something else?

With so many views sad they didn't recall it even if its not directly safety. Although an exit shouldn't have a faulty exit before needing it in an emergency if that exit is available.
