Good video... You should have added a "How to open the boot from inside" chapter - I did, tbh, smirk a little as you shut the boot with the switch off in your hand. :-) "He's gonna be crawling into the boot now to get at the little plastic release... " :-)
This video was helpful. I could hear my lock clicking when I used the key fob, so I didn't think it was electrical. Without doing anything else, I sprayed some penetrant up at the exterior release latch, and it freed it enough to solve my problem.
This sounds like the same problem I’ve got. The boot only opens with the key fob. I followed this (very helpful) video, cleaned and put back together. The pin was clicking again but for some reason wasn’t connecting to the boot switch mechanism (if that’s what you call it) to open the boots. My instincts were to spray DW40 up into the switch but still nothing. Not sure what else to do? Do you think I may need to buy a boot switch? Thank you kindly in advance.😅
I tried this but I just couldn’t remove the switch from the plastic cover, spent almost two hours with a screwdriver and a trim tool going all around, it pulled over like a quarter inch but it just won’t come off. Any ideas to what can I do?
You were lucky. Most of the times any faulty tailgate component is related to ripped cables in left top part of boot. There is repair kit available but it takes few hours of work.
Can I ask. Could your trunk still be opened by the key fob when the switch you fixed was not working? My daughter's also stopped opening. I replaced the entire lock mechanism but still not working. Want to try your fix, but just wanted to get clarity if the key fob also didn't work. Thanks Rudi
I have a similar problem, however the key fob doesnt work either. I removed the harness/loom and found some severed wires, I welded them back together but still no luck. There continuity from the connector (that goes into the locking mechanism) all the way to were the wires were severed. but nothing seems to work. Im thinking it could be the motor/relay. do you have any ideas was to what could be the root cause and solution? thanks in advance
Hi Daniel, If you have jointed the loom back up properly because tte wires are very thin. I once had this problem because there was one wire I didn’t see which was broken but the sleeve wire had no sign of damage. If they are all good then it does sound like a boot mechanism.
You have to make sure the white button with the aping on it clicks in and out. Take a small screwdriver and clean the metal pin. Push it in a little to liberate plastic from pin
Check the wiring loom that comes from the car into the boot lid. Sounds like a couple of wires are bare and they are touching. You will have to remove rubber from around it. They usually go there.
I have a fiat 500 cabralet, i cant lock or unlock the car or open the boot using the key fob or even putting the key in a trying to unlock that doesnt work, i cant open my boot even me pressing the button on the booth either
