Fiat Panda Cross, is it possibly the best car in the world?

I like my little Panda so much, so I feel it could be the best car in the world! :-)
It is small outside so I can park it, but big on the inside, I can sit in the back or front!, (its better than the model that replaced it in this respect), it looks different, it has true 4wd and a diff lock, but it still does 55mpg, it has great air con and simple controls, you sit high up and it is easy to get into and out of -and also it is quite rare. All of this I think it makes it the best car in the world :-)

Had a yellow 58 plate standard model that I loved. Upgraded to a Panda Cross and love it so comfortable and roomy for a small car. Love my City mode that helps with parking in a tight spot. Before the Pandas I was the second owner of a Punto that lived to 21 years old.

Very practicle and economical car! I have the later shape Panda 4x4 Antarctica, it's the 0.9 Twinair turbo engine. Lots of fun to drive and own, rugged and very capable. The 2 cylinder 875cc engine is surprisingly nimble, with 85bhp and a 6 speed box, it makes for a perfect city car that can easily handle the rough stuff on countryside adventures! 😎👍

I've had a few sits in the mk3, certainly more modern, but doesn't feel as roomy though the chassis is the same as the MK2. I would certainly like your engine, while the little diesel gets 65mpg, it throws alot of crap out the back when you Welly it ☹️

@@anticat900 Feels plenty big enough inside but still being small enough on the outside, makes negotiating city traffic and parking a breeze. Mostly it's just me and the wife and our small dog, occasionally a couple of grandchildren in the back. There is actually 3 seats in the back but you would be pushing it to get 3 adults squeezed in there! 😁 It's still very comfortable and doesn't feel cramped, we've even been on a couple of camping holidays with it all loaded up with gear and it coped very well. I was apprehensive about the Twinair engine at first, I just didn't think it would have enough grunt but driving it you quickly forget it is only a twin cylinder engine, it drives like a much more powerful 4 cylinder engine. The 6 speed box makes keeping in the right gear, to keep the engine in that 'happy' zone above 2k rpm, much easier. The first gear is very low, I guess to help on loose terrain. On average, on a run, driving quite briskly, with no Eco mode or Start Stop, I'm getting +50mpg. Not bad at all and the annual road tax is only £30, I think on the later ones after 2017 it goes up into a higher tax band! Had it for just over a year now, no issues at all.😎👍

@@pdtech4524 it should be exactly the same room wise, it is true, as the structure beneath the panels is the same car. Do they do a automatic version of yours? It is likely to be my next car but getting fed up with changing.
@pdtech4524
@pdtech4524 3 года назад
@@anticat900 I would imagine it's more or less the same space inside. All the Twinair 4x4 versions I saw were 6 speed manual, although there is a Dualogic version 0.9 Panda but not with 4x4 I'm sure? 🤔

It is an attention grabber headline 🙂. None the less if you can advise of a car, thats easy to park, roomy, good on fuel, 4wd and with a locking diff, that you can buy and lose nothing on, i want to know about it 🙂. Mine i have sold as it was too smokey for these modern times 🙂

I was just wondering how it goes with the long term reliability 🤔 Definitely I totally love the styling of yours and I am wondering should I spend double the money and get the MK4 with the twin engine.
@anticat900
@anticat900 2 года назад
@@lyubengeorgiev1751 it would definitely outlast a twin air mk4 and although the chassis of the mk3 and 4 are the same, the mk 3 certainly has more room in it, as you are more upright. I would go for the slightly revised version of mine however with more power and the dpf filter. Mine always threw out a lot of smoke on hard acceleration which is why i sold it. The dpf version hopefully shouldn't do this, though is more complicated having it.

@@anticat900 I was looking around for the gasoline version of the cross but they are quite rare even in Italy. Another interesting fact is that the Italians drive them quite a lot….most of the examples that I found there are way above 200k Km.

I think eld it was an option for the normal 4x4, my electric steering went wrong, the controller with eld is very hard to come by. Though my diesel is very good on fuel 65mpg, would prefer the quieter and simpler 1.2 petrol as in yours.

Reality check - the Panda has a central viscous coupling, not a diff lock. True 4wd? - where is the low range? Ground clearance is lacking - try driving a lane with wheel ruts. I own a Panda Cross and like it very much, but do not confuse this with a proper offroader.
@anticat900
@anticat900 3 года назад
Its pretty good and better than many 'true' off roaders, my Jeep wrangler for example has no diff lock or coupling? Being half the weight too and narrow means it can do more than most with the right tyres. Have a look at pandas really roughing it.
@shawtravis7384
@shawtravis7384 3 года назад
@@anticat900 I own a Panda Cross and like it, and it is natural for me to compare with my last vehicle, a Defender 300TDi. The Panda does not come close to even a 20 year old Defender. Not enough ground clearance, and not nearly enough articulation. There is no comparison, although I'm sure that the Panda is great in snow on a flat surface.

One fault - diesel
@anticat900
@anticat900 6 месяцев назад
Then no, now yes. This was the slightly later engine which didn't throw out nearly as much crap out the back as my earlier model did. I did consider converting it to a 2wd 100hp or a 1.2 petrol 4wd. The 1.2 4wd is known for being one of the slowest cars on the road and the panda gearbox just cannot take any more power. That's why the 100hp is the only panda with a Punto gearbox

Does this 70hp model have a DPF ?
@anticat900
@anticat900 3 года назад
Nope, the 70 has no dpf the later 75 does have a dpf. They boosted the boost to counter the dpf plus a bit more on the 75. Both do have carbon monoxide cats however. Its just by 2010 diesel emission control got alot stricter, but makes them a bugger to get through a mot now however
@Shane_Marsh
@Shane_Marsh 3 года назад
@@anticat900 Thanks for the reply. It should still pass mot as long as it's still within the limits it was manufactured to though won't it ?
@anticat900
@anticat900 3 года назад
@@Shane_Marsh Yes certainly, its just the regulations for diesels, got tightened for 2010, so the need for a dpf to be fitted. It good for the environment as these cars don't now have gasses coming out the exhaust like my 2009 does. Dpf's can get clogged however if the car is used for short journeys. But this is no different to all diesel cars made from 2010, it just everything has to work right to pass the mot.
@Shane_Marsh
@Shane_Marsh 3 года назад
@@anticat900 I do relatively short commutes and have had endless trouble with dpfs. Vw, audi, skoda, citroen all terrible. I like the torque of a diesel but I've returned to petrol due to dpfs, although I keep looking for cars without one.
@anticat900
@anticat900 3 года назад
@@Shane_MarshMe too the best diesels I'd say were the 1.9 ones from vw in the early 2000's, or the Peugeot ones from the same time, they didn't have silly power puts or as much emission control but would last for 300,000 miles no issue. The dpf filters and high pressure fuel injectors of today have made diesels unreliable and expensive to maintain. Having said that, I'm no fan of the smoke coming out of mine when i welly it 😊. But do like the 65 mpg i get, trying to sell mine now as need a big car to carry my elderly parents in. They can fit in the Panda but don't like it ☹️
