Thanx muchly for sharing, FrankNelsonNet! Always loved Fibber McGee and Molly. Love old-time radio shows. Frank Nelson was always a fun character actor, too. I was born in 1949, so this is the first time I heard this episode. RIP, Jim and Marian, and thanx so very much for the magic and memories.
It was back when we all knew where our taxes were going. Everyone was involved in the war in some way - the PSA's are history, and you'd do well to pay attention to the way we won a world war in 5 years, then had a booming economy for the 10+ years. We've been in Afghanistan for so long because there's no link between my life and our fighting troops there. If we had to make victory gardens and put all extra change into buying war bonds to help the war end more quickly and bring our troops home because we need them here, not abroad. When's the last time you heard about what our troops are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq???
A sadly ignorant comment. As Mr. Mason said, people were patriotic. No one had to pay the Jordans, NBC, or anyone else to promote the country and the war effort. In our post-Cultural Revolution world, many can’t understand the natural feelings of ordinary people of the past. As L.P. Hartley said, “the past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."
