Sorry for the delay in videos on this build, life threw me some hurdles 🤷♂️ This is a video on the forward bulk heads, next one will be stringers. I am still very motivated to finish the re-build and intend to. Cheers Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Hi mate 👋 Bunnings is a big hardware chain in Australia, I was wearing a Bunnings jumper in the video. I do buy a lot of materials from them. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Why did you epoxy them in rather than using the same resin as the hull? I’m about to do this job on my (free) Cruise Craft Scorpion, except it’s not getting thermolite!
Hi mate 👋 I epoxy glued the bulkheads, stringers, transom, anywhere that is being glued as epoxy has a much better bond than polyester resin. Vinylester is good but still not as good as epoxy for glueing. I used west system epoxy. All my tabbing, laminating etc after gluing is vinylester, that’s why I was carful not to spread the epoxy onto any surface to be laminated. It is still totally fine to use polyester mix for gluing and I have done that many times in the past, I went all out on this because it’s the first time using thermolite. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Cheers mate. Yeah, I mark where I want the bulkhead in the boat then make a template out of cheap 3mm MDF Board. I cut the board very roughly to shape then just hot glue little off cuts on to meet the hull, works really well. You can even shape the little off cuts into the chines and strakes so you end up with a pretty perfect template. I should have put that in the vid, I will add it into the next one mate. good to see u still going ahead with this build another great video. I have one question I've watch the 9.9 15 18hp video u had up. And I see the 9.9 and 15hp has 55mm diameter pistons and also the 18hp has 60 diameter pistons. I just recently check my outbored it has 60 stamped just behind the head I was surprise it might be a 18hp I'm not real sue. and maybe bigger crabeater I hope u can understand what I mean cheers?
Hi mate, Yep if it’s stamped 60, you have the 60mm bore. Is it a Japan built Mercury of Mariner? They use the 18hp block and restrict the carb from fully opening with a different cam (the little bit that pushed the carb open) you can replace it if you want. Also you can advance the timing a little. To tell the truth, there is not much difference though if you already have the big bore doing the cam and timing is not really noticeable.
