Nicely done. My CO2 laser is on the fritz at the moment, so I wondered "Can a fiber laser engrave glass?" By your experiment, I conclude yes and no. Technically the laser went through the glass and stopped at the metal surface and it was the explosion from the metal surface that engraved and stained the glass. Good to know!

Thanks for watching, Marcelo. You’re right, fibre doesn’t engrave glass like CO2. There are different coatings you can apply to the glass before engraving like CO2 does for metal engraving. I haven’t used them so can’t comment on the results. Aluminium foil is an effective medium for fibre both for the top surface or beneath as I did with the stainless. It gives a white finish. Cheers Mike

Thanks for watching, Ted. The advantage of foil is you wrap it around curved glass like a bottle. Have fun with stainless steel.

Thanks for watching. Yes, it vaporises the metal, fusing the super hot oxides into the glass. Makes a great permanent mark. Fun too.

You’ll have a lot of fun with your new laser, Willy. There’s a learning curve of course, but we’ll worth it. Personalised products have more appeal and value. Let me know how it goes on crystal. Aluminium foil might be a good option if the item isn’t flat.

Hi Mike, do you happen to know what material you could use under the glass to give a white engraving instead of black? Fun note: I used brass undernear glass and it gives a nice copper look.
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees Год назад
Hey Jake, I love the brass idea. Now I’m thinking what other metals to play with. I haven’t tested anything for white, but I wonder if using aluminium and experimenting with settings might come up with a good result.

Hello, we need a help with something and we would really appreciate if you could help us. The problem is we are trying to laser mark Polyamid 6 plastic with 30% glass fiber using our Fiber Laser marking machine, but nothing happens. The machine marks other plastics, but not this one. Can you help us?
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees Год назад
You sure have a challenge with that one. I’ve never engraved it and don’t have quick access to it. From what I can find, only a MOPA fibre laser will mark polyamid 6. You could experiment with coatings like Cermark or aluminium foil. Engraving the coating might make a permanent high contrast mark after the unlamented material is wash off.

Hello Mike, how we can do it on glass cup, like wine, whisky glass? Thank you
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees Год назад
Good question. I haven’t done that yet. I would try using foil around the inside of the glass with some foam to help press it against the glass. The marking will be on the inside, so the question is, does the liquid react with the metal oxide? It’s possible to mark the outside by wrapping the foil externally. I think I’ll have to play with this.

@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees 3 года назад
Yes, it is the JCZ card with EZ2. I don’t recall who I bought it from. There were quite a few sellers with the same pictures. I suspect many are made in the same factory. If you’ve been referred to Richard Z then go with that. I recommend spending the extra to get EZ3. EZ2 is notoriously unstable, often referred to as EziCrash2.

@@AussieMikesBees Thanks for the reply Mike! Yeah, I've been looking to get into laser engraving/annealing/micro cutting as side business(fellow Aussie here too) so just doing some research. One of the FB groups has different photos of people doing all kinds of crazy stuff with annealing colours on the metals, etc so just researching on what the majority use(for sake of ease/research, and mainly the 'settings' they use) I checked out the Aliexpress site last night, and your right, most of them look very similar. Some of them are much cheaper than what I got quoted, but kinda wary on buying off on that site
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees 3 года назад
I understand your doubts with AliExpress. I’ve bought hundreds of items over the years, mostly cheap components, but still a number of pricey items. I’ve had one non-arrival and one dead on arrival. The DOA I fixed myself, just not worth the hassle of sending back. The no show was refunded straight away. My experience has been good. With your Laser, just make sure you get genuine components. It’s crazy, but there’s Chinese knock-offs of Chinese parts. I know Rock-Solid Laser uses genuine bits. That’s who I bought the BJJCZ EZCad3 upgrade card from. If I had my time again, I’d get one of their JPT M7 MOPA 60W.

hi Mike, did you figure out how to mark on hard wood without burning much?
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees 2 года назад
Hey Lixin, thanks for watching. I haven’t used the fibre laser for wood. I engrave wood with my CO2 laser with good results. Some woods smoke up more than others, staining the surrounding surface, but it cleans up with a light sanding.

Interesting thought. I suspect it would probably melt the acrylic because there's quite a bit of heat generated in the SS. I'll try it and see what happens.

Muhmd, thanks for watching. Fiber lasers aren't good at organic materials like wood. CO2 lasers are best for these. Fiber is perfect for metals including gold. Chinese machines start from around US$1500. Check them at AliExpress

Hi been wanting to buy one of these fiber lasers for gold. Only questions is how long can you use it for in one day and does it need any maintenence?
@AussieMikesBees
@AussieMikesBees 3 года назад
@@EJSVARZ thanks for watching. I don’t think there’s a limit on the duty cycle. You can run them all day long. The only maintenance is keeping the lens clean. Much less work than my CO2 laser with mirror and lens cleaning and aligning. Fibre lasers have a very long life, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity and time for it to pay for itself. My only regret is not buying one sooner. All the time and expense of using Cermark with my CO2 laser would have easily justified the purchase, but I didn’t even know fibre existed then.
