Unsolicited advice : get a “go bag”. Something that’s always ready to go on hikes. Load with protein bars, waters, wipes 🧻, and a hat. That way all you have to do is grab and go. 🥰 When you return from your hike, replenish what you used and it will be ready for the next time. I’m loving that you’re hiking more. You’re seeing and showing us the beauty of the land ♥️
Yes. Those "string" backpacks are usually cheap at resale shops. And the more you hike and build hiking muscles the better the muscles will support your knees
The Gonex ultralight packable backpack is one of the better things I’ve ever purchased for this (Amazon of course). It’s a great backpack, around $15, and when not in use it folds into itself into an itty bitty bundle. Super sturdy, great zippers, and water bottle pockets too. Highly recommend!
That's a great idea! I have a "go bag" too for shorter hikes (or walks). Don't need to think about what to take with me - just grab the bag (it's an old small cycling backpack), fill up the water bottle and go.
I HAD to pause & just comment how amazing this video has been! Just wow… the jokes 🔥 the views 🔥the bird-friends moment 🔥 the music 🔥 etc. GIRL out did herself on this one y’all!!!🎉 10/10
Hi Birdie! I have watched your videos since the beginning. You have made me laugh and cry. During each episode, I always say, "she should definitely write a non-fiction book." I could be off base, but, I imagine your story would be about a magical land with magical animals! You are a true story teller. Sometimes, I close my eyes and I feel like I am listening to an audio book. Your words are eloquent, and I am enjoying your adventures! Sending you love and light ❤
I know I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're fricken amazing. You struggled getting in and out and now you climb trails and mountains. You started in parking lots and now you're going to parks and towns. You are an adventurer! Love you so much and SO proud of you!!
@KeishaJourneys I'm an adventurer! I love that! I never thought I'd do anything like this again. It's so cool. And you're so cool!! Love you so much, Keisha!
Birdie!!! You have a beautiful voice! I could listen to you sing all day long... I also wanted to let you know that I absolutely loved your video... such pretty scenery 💕
Birdie❤I think you might be surprised at the number of people living in those lovely houses dream of your life! Oh,to have a pocket full of memories like yours😊
You slept in front of my apartment building. You hit all my favorite places, Deception Pass, Washington Park. I am at Camp Sante ... so fun to see someone on RU-vid right in my neighborhood. It is a beautiful area lots of activities in summer. The Oyster Run is coming up end of September (Bikers) they line the street solid ... something to see - and they are very polite.
Yay! Anacortes is my hometown and I love it here so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed visiting here. Those people cutouts are AnaCORtes residents past and present. You found most of the trails we love. Good job!!
I think you have a great talent at this videography. I really enjoyed the sounds and scenery in this video. Next summer you can catch the other part of the island and save up for the more costly ferry, too. I love that you are allowing yourself to stretch your legs and go hiking. I also love that you pampered yourself with a souvenir shirt!!! Well deserved! Enjoy your day!
Birdie my friend! I'm enjoying taking this trip with you so much! Please take care of your knees - build up your leg muscles (quads and calves...calf's...??) and they will protect your knees on those amazing hikes! ~ With love 💕
When I first started watching you waaaaaay back in the day, I lived on Whidbey Island! So close to where you are now! I’d totally invite you over if I still lived there. I moved to Oklahoma about 4 years ago.. it’s wild here. But I’m reminded of how beautiful the PNW is while watching your videos. ❤
I have been to Mt Eerie several times and the trees have grown up sooo much…it used to be a much different and open viewpoint. But happy you found The Skagit and Whidbey….miss my old life.
Birdie you are very talented when it comes to these videos. It’s like you are a natural and your beautiful personality shines through in every incredible way. And when you’re struggling, we get that too. Thank you for sharing your travels. Why can’t I donate anymore?
Hi Birdie 👋 what a great video 😊I just love the views, and the song you sang was amazing 👏 so glad you had those🎵🎶💜 wonderful memories singing with your dad. I am looking forward to your next journey 😀. Love and Light always Karen 😊and Miles 🐶
Hi Birdie... loved this. You are glowing in this video. How adorable Birdie with a Birdie but what blew my mind is your gorgeous singing voice. You certainly have a talent there... I love your singing more than I can express with these words 😊❤🐦
Great to your see your smile..So pretty, nature's at its finest..Wow, what a beautiful voice you have. Could you please sing everytime we see you. ? Just Totally relaxed me.🎉 Have alot of good times..
Fantastic video!! You make me smile and laugh, and just stare in wonder at the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Yes, keep hiking - with trekking poles, water & snacks! Love you Birdie!
Hi Birdie, I love your videos, I see so much of myself in you. Thank you for that. We are not alone, and just realizing that, helps. I have lost everything in my life, including my family. Its been 4 years now and I am just starting to get back on my feet, or should I say I WANT to. Hiking is something I want to start as well. I will be in Quartzite in a couple weeks, if you go there this year I would love to meet you. Be well and never give up, we are all in this crazy world together and, all us ladies got to stick together. 🤗 Hugs
14:00 The way I was able to take a DEEP breath for the first time in days hearing you sing... absolutely magical. Thank you for sharing your many, many gifts with us, Birdie.
I love your shirt! You just made my day watching your video and all of the beauty and splendor. Thank you! Oh and the baby deer and your adorable bird friend.
Birdie! I’m not much of a commenter, but… your singing voice is everything! What joy! In addition to hiking poles, you might consider knee braces with hinged metal supports or at least compression sleeves for your knees. Either, or even better, both, of these things will improve how you feel after your hikes. Thank you for bringing us along with you and keep filling that pocketful of cherished memories.
Aw, Dorothy, thank you so much! That is so sweet. I'm definitely gonna have to look into knee braces. That would probably be great! Thank you so much!! ❤️
I always wanted to get my own kayak. However, I always envisioned stuffing my big butt in that tiny hole and it would flip, I would panic, get stuck and drown. Then a colleague told me she was going kayaking and she had a backside that was four times the size of mine. She returned to work so apparently she didn't get stuck. Then I learned there are ones with larger access and open seats. I love kayaking.
Your video was so beautiful. Thank you sharing your life with us. We need you ❤. You are so important and I look forward to each video. You have really come a long way in your video style. The music, the way you can tell a story, the way you know just what to photograph.. good job girl ❤ we are all here for you. Hugs 🤗
National Geographic ain't got NUTHIN on our Miz Birdie!! (gimble, gamble, love preamble) the statue of the woman holding the lantern whilst the frightened child clung to her and peaked around her billowing skirts seemed an analogy for Birdie holding the lantern and encouraging us~ on whatever trail life puts before us. a little 🌀is heading our way right now; and not having the great goddess Birdie's advice BEFOREHAND, i hiked down to the lake to "check on" my squirrel and duck friends. well of course, i slipped in the mud and skinned my hands and CHIN! aaaaaaargh. at least, with ibuprofen and an ice pack i had this BEEYOOOTIFUL travel log to soothe my wounded pride. be safe out there people🤣🤣🤣🐦🐦🐦❤❤❤
Brava! Birdie, you outdid yourself in this one! Such a joy to share your experience. As I lay here in bed feeling completely unmotivated, you shared your breathtaking journey with us. Thanks for the laughs, the views, the thoughtfulness, and your oh so lovely singing :) I’ve heard different voices described as the elements (fire, metal, air, etc) and my favorite are water voices, so calming to me. You have a water voice! From the calm soft tones of your quiet voice to the bubbling spring of your tale-telling and laughter :) And I’m glad you’re thinking of walking sticks (or at least one) to help you get to where you want to go! ❤
Idk if you're still in that area but there's a drive in movie theater called Blue Fox, on widbey island that allows you to stay overnight after the movie. It's only $7 entrance fee too!
Wow! I didn’t know you could sing?!! That was beautiful truly! Sing in more of your videos, I for one would love and enjoy that immensely!! ( Seriously make a cd! I would buy it!!! Ha!! ) I love that you were walking and sharing your sights with us! The scenery was amazing!! God is so good all the time, all the time God is good!! 🥰 This video was definitely a 10 out of 10!!
I have been on a long journey, similar to yours. Luckily I have a husband who is so supportive. On good days I celebrate but I have learned not to make long-term plans lol because tomorrow may be different I may not feel like I can get out of my home or van or whatever space feels safe at the time. But celebrating those good days or good moments or good hours. It looks like that's what you are doing new friend and I celebrate with you.👍🏻❤️
Love watching your videos and seeing how you evolve. You have some such a long way since your first few videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
I live on Whidbey, but not near the water. Everyday I find something that makes me gasp and say "sigh, I live here!" An eagle flying overhead, the ocean breeze through the trees, the ocean. Padilla Bay is a beautiful flat trail too! Over by Tacoma Zoo is another gorgeous loop trail, with hundreds of racoons!
ITS FANTASTIC TO SEE YOU START LIVING A LIFE FILLED WITH NEW HEALTHY FUN EXPERIENCES!YOU SO DESERVE THAT. YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY. IVE SEEN YOUR CONFIDENCE GROW. IVE SEEN YOUR HAPPINESS AND EXCITEMENT WITH ALL THESE ADVENTURES INSTEAD OF STAYING PUT SOMEWHERE AND VISITING YOUR DAUGHTER EVERY WEEKEND. I LOVE SEEING YOU HAPPY BECAUSE YOU'RE THE KINDEST SOUL I KNOW AND DESERVE JOY AND HAPPINESS. HUGS
Went to bed early and woke up early to Birdie. What a lovely way to start my day❤ thanks again birdie for taking us along and you need to sing more to us❤❤❤
I am 22 Years old. I am an expat in studying in Germany. I came across your channel. I suffer from depression and have been battling it for a long time. I came across your channel from your video you made about how it is to live when you don't want to. I just want to say your videos make my day better. Thankyou.
Thank you, Birdie for taking me on a little trip. I admire your sense of adventure and your gratitude in noticing the little things in nature. I've been to awesome Rainier. I look forward to seeing it again through your eyes.
So good to see you back and in good spirits. Love that you enjoy hiking, well more so maybe not hiking but the views you get from hiking. And Birdie you do you❤️
Your voice is beautiful, thank you for sharing! And yes, hiking poles are very helpful for us klutzes. Also, one of the funniest 10 minutes of my life was trying to get into an inflatable kayak by myself...the whole campground got free entertainment! I could have used a strong friend to help me out too!
It's so good to see you, Birdie! I hope the crashing of the waves has been a healing sound for you, and that the well becomes a distant memory. As for coming north again - well, of course! You can have a winter home in California and a summer home in the PNW. (And springtime in the desert, maybe?) Also, have you any idea how delightful it is to hear you say "I love you" as you sign off? I love you, too. ❤
Another favorite channel of mine, TidelineToAlpine, defined hiking vs walking, and I liked it, so I'm going to share it. Walking is when you don't have to look/pay attention to where you're putting your feet, hiking is when you do.
This is probably the best video of yours. Such beauty all around. You talking so softly to the bird made my heart smile. The song you sang was precious and beautiful. You have an amazing voice. I would pay good money to hear you sing. It was so very sweet. ❤️❤️☺️
I almost woke up my granddaughter from laughing when you mentioned the seagulls saying goodnight 😂😂😂 What a beautiful view of the water. 😊 I had the same experience from hiking my first time. But my knees and back were sooo messed up. I had to get my daughter to help me to the bathroom. It took about three days to recover.
You always find such peaceful scenery…the neighborhood you were in with the gorgeous big homes also have huge mortgages…I wouldn’t call them free but you are free ☺️…the lady by the sea holding the lantern…when we lived aboard in Gig Harbor we were moored next to the fishing boats and when the boats left the harbor for months at a time the families would see them off from the docks and watch them leave and wave and hug…I cried at the sounds of the boat horns sounding all the way out of the harbor as they said their good byes 😭…love the seagulls too 😌
