A look through my field soldering kit that I made for my low-voltage tool bag. Based around the Pinecil V2 soldering iron.
Not a paid, discounted, or compensated review, I purchased all contents.
Edit: adding links to products used per request (and it makes sense). Non-affiliate sanitized links.

The new firmware for the Pinecil V2 lets you use all 140w of that battery bank, If you didn't already know. Nice kit though, I've been looking to get that power brick for a while now.

please put a Link to the Bag. could even do affiliate link or anything, it's good for us readers (easier) . video description, anything easy for you to link.

you prefer Engineer solder sucker over copper braid/wick? I love thumb screws. links to several types on pinecil Wiki under fasteners.
@neverendingstudent
@neverendingstudent 2 года назад
Solder sucker vs copper braid: both have their place. Non-sensitive surfaces and larger globs of solder are usually a better job for the sucker, and pulling excess solder off of a delicate PCB trace / contact surface (especially if you are repairing a lifted trace) can be a better job for wick, so long as it is done with a delicate hand.

what is the soldering fan setup? could you show this in another video? thanks

It is a Kotto fume extractor: www.amazon.com/KOTTO-Soldering-Absorber-Electric-Extractor/dp/B07ZHH5H7N/. One of the least expensive fume management options that has a positional hose. I use the layered 'hepa/carbon' filters (they are in no way actual HEPA but they are better filters than just the carbon sponge).

@@neverendingstudent thanks, I tried to post about the V2 Beta firmware if people are using EPR chargers 28V 140W, but it keeps getting deleting or or it might be in your side to approve the comment if you have review comments enabled.

That power bank is EPR compatible, isn't it? If you upgraded your USB cable for a PD 3.1 240 W one, you'd be able to power the iron at 28 V and around 100 W (126 W with the short tips, 98 with the long ones)
@neverendingstudent
@neverendingstudent 4 месяца назад
The USB cable I have in there is a high-temp tolerant silicone USB-C cable which is from the Pine store and specifically meant to be used with the Pinecil (so that if you accidentally touch it, it won't melt). To be fair, I just checked and didn't find power ratings listed for the cable, but I know I have used it in the field and was able to solder easily, no issues with the iron getting up to temp quickly or keeping temperature up during soldering.
@NicksStuff
@NicksStuff 4 месяца назад
@@neverendingstudent I recognized the cable and it's good, yes. ...but it doesn't allow you to get the full power of your Pinecil and Anker power bank. It's just that it's a bit of a pity to opt for such an expensive power bank and not use its 140 W capability, since the Pinecil is able to take advantage of it.

@@NicksStuff I had to do some quick googling just now - either I hadn't known (or, more likely I forgot) the Pinecil can support power above the rated 88W. I may look into swapping that now, if I can find a cable that is also silicone-sheathed (I REALLY like the limp-noodle feel and how it doesn't push back at all when I want to set the iron down on my stand). Edit: found on Aliexpress, looks like Miniware makes a 1 meter silicone USB-C cable with EPR support for high-wattage, currently at ~$7. Nice.

737 battery will heat up Pinecil V2 faster than pinepower if you get a good EPR cable PD3.1 (240W). PD60 cable is plenty fast and good at PD20V on V2 and your battery will last longer so staying at 20V is a good idea too. There are no Silicone type 240W cables yet. so you probably better off staying with what you have than getting less flexible cable. However, if you get a 240W-48V cable, you will see 28V on V2 screen. speed tests I did using 140W EPR charger + EPR cable, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nTC-ah4f0hg.html your 737 happens to be a good 28V battery and V2 is first device in world next to Macbook that can support 28V 140W (max potential is 126W with 6.2ohm tip). Officially Pine64 only states up to 88W 24V. Ralim stated in July community updates components inside were upgraded to "tentatively" support 28V EPR. Bunch of us have already tested this on at least 5 models of 28V EPR chargers, your 737 was tested too works well so far. only V2 supports 28V, the V1 is limited.
@neverendingstudent
@neverendingstudent 2 года назад
Cool, I'm glad the 737 is community tested and works well for the Pinecil. I'll keep an eye out for higher-wattage silicone USB-C cables, I'm sure they'll be produced at some point.

What are you using to record this, and what mount? I want to make some testing videos for V2 power/speed. all I have is cell phone currently.
@neverendingstudent
@neverendingstudent 2 года назад
I'm just using my cell phone as well. Galaxy XCover Pro. For the 'mount' - I have one of those magnifying glass / light combos on an armature that can be tightened into place - I just tightened it up and set the phone on it with the camera peeking over the side. It probably helped with the lighting values for the video I suppose.

Perhaps you know. On the pine64 site, a set of soldering iron tips for v1 or v2? There is no resistance information in the description.
@neverendingstudent
@neverendingstudent Год назад
When I bought mine they were still the V1 tips. I can tell by the length. Just measured resistance on them too, getting 8.1 to 9 ohms, so confirmed they are the 8 ohm version, at least as of when I bought them (2022-Sep-14th). Edit: I will mention that I can solder just fine with the V2 while using the V1 tips. Guessing the 6.2 vs 8 ohm isn't a massive difference, more of an incremental improvement.
@Nichrome_resistance
@Nichrome_resistance Год назад
@@neverendingstudent For large polygons, the 6.2 ohm version is preferable. Can be soldered at a lower temperature, faster response while maintaining temperature.

I have a similar setup for my travel kit. Still, I got some good ideas from your setup, thanks for the video. My first battery for the pinecil was a wall charger/battery combo from Baseus and it died after about a week and took the USB c port on my V1 Pinecil with it. Now I have an Insignia battery that can put out 87w total (65w pd over type c). The Best Buy battery only cost $45 on sale and it's been holding up well for about 3 months now.
