FIFA 23 World Cup Mode Is Dead 

Fifa world cup 2010 was so amazing. It had a different vibe to it honestly my favorite fifa. Now the expansion are just money making machines but did we except any better from ea.

The World Cup mode in 2014 was amazing. Everyone could pack the best players and everyone was equal

anyone else remember FIFA 98 which as part of the main game you could literally do the WHOLE QUALIFYING CAMPAIGN in & TOURNAMENT WITH ANY COUNTRY !!! 20+ years later and we have less than half that

What makes it even worse, is that in order to create the stadiums in Qatar for this World Cup, many workers lost their lives (I think it's around 15,000) and were subject to abhorrent working conditions and treatment. Fifteen thousand. I've even heard stories on how migrant workers coming into Qatar to help with the construction have had contracts where the employers go back on their word and do things that are most certainly illegal in countries like the UK. So, for EA to basically say "Nah, we didn't have time to put those stadiums in the game, just the stadium for the final and one other stadium will suffice, we've got the rest of the FIFA 23 lifecycle to plan for." is just utterly disgraceful, as you rightfully put it. They should be ashamed of how lazy and disrespectful they are, not just to Qatar for only including just 2 of their stadiums, but for those workers who quite literally put their lives on the line to help the Middle East, not just Qatar, become more recognised in the world of football, and have their culture be more widespread across the world, despite quite questionable morals and ethics their country has. I cannot fathom how EA decided to include only 2 stadiums for the World Cup. 2 GODDAMN STADIUMS! And I also can't fathom how they didn't think to look back at previous iterations of their product and think: "Hmmm... when we developed a separate game to include various World Cup related game-modes, the feedback was very good - so why don't we, with our multi-billions worth of technological resources and developers, replicate that? Given that this is going to be the last instalment of the game before it branches off into two separately owned ones, we should try to get the veteran players more on our side by giving to them what they enjoyed and what they'd love to see?" Actually, now that I think about it - I can fathom why they made their decisions on what to do for this World Cup: they really don't care for the fans. All they care is how much money they generate from their products (shocker, I know) and prioritising the new generation of people rather than the previous generation who played and enjoyed those standalone games/sub-games. It's why I stopped playing the FIFA games as not only did I begin to not enjoy the game, it's gameplay, and it's MASSIVE pay-to-win factor, but I now have more responsibilities to attend to in my life, with money to earn myself, and I wouldn't dream of giving this greedy organisation a penny more than what I've already given them for the previous games of FIFA that I've played. It's good to know that the FIFA franchise will be branched off into two-separate iterations, because for too long EA have demonstrated their corporate greed. It's inevitable that they will generate sales from their next games, but I really do hope that the iteration not created by EA trumps them in sales - so much so that they would deem it is a financial loss to create football-related games anymore. Apart from my feelings writing this, I am having a good day so far, and I hope everyone reading this also has a good day and good luck for the next week!

I think I might make FIFA 23 the last FIFA or EA FC game I play, unless they commit to a two year cycle so they can innovate, that would give them time to make proper World Cup modes and bring back features that fans miss so much

I started playing at FIFA 19 at June. Unluckily I didn't experience older World Cups at the time. I bought the 2010 version, and the fact that that you can play as 206 nations is incredible. Even my little brother really enjoys to play it often. This tells us how much worse EA has made the mode.

The international kits in and across career modes should also be updated through this DLC, but we all know it won't happen. We'll still be stuck playing in Dollar General kits🤷‍♂️

World Cup modes have been some of my favorites through FIFA's lifetime. Everyone's got the best players and the vibes are always fun.

I’m 14 and back when the 2010 and 14 World Cup games were released I was not able to play them because I could not operate a controller but I have an older cousin who has these games and just playing them and comparing them to this FIFA 23 World Cup game mode makes me feel like they are robbing me of good memories, there are like a trillion game modes in the 2010 World Cup(it’s the one I played the most) and comparing it to this year’s game make me sad 😔 I so wish Ea had kept their high standard from before 💔

It’s a shame they had four years to end it with a bang and they make something like this, and most of the community is just accepting this, letting ea just slack off even more

The separate game was a cash cow for them back in the day.. another release they knew they would sell well. they no longer have to do that given the money they are generating from FUT.. The game is not for the fans.. it's simply to maximise profits with the least amount of effort.. which tbf becomes every companies outlook eventually.

The fact that we have to mod FIFA and PES to receive more national teams is just crazy to me. Embarrassing from EA, but not really surprising. There will always be content to make about this game, whether it’s the constant promos they put out for grabbing cash, or the constant BS they put out for.. also grabbing cash.

this is the video i was looking for. Can’t believe EA would give us just two stadiums. I live in Qatar (I’m an expat), and I was really looking forward to the stadiums being added to the game, since there’s this stadium (Al Janoub) that’s in front of my former school, and I wanted to see the atmosphere outside the stadium in FIFA 23…. but EA decided to be lazy and only scan the 2 most recent inaugurated stadiums, (aka the 2 stadiums I hated the most, Al Bayt is really far far away from the city, and there’s no metro station to get there, and Lusail is really hard and long to access the stadium)

Hopefully after this year we will never have to buy a football game made by EA ever again

Absolutely awful. 2 stadiums, no qualifying modes where you could take any nation into the World Cup, I remember I used to take India into the World Cup in the 2006 game from the qualifying rounds to the main thing, no Global Challenge or Story of Qualifying mode where we could play various matches from legendary World Cup matchups. The World Cup games used to be in the top of my games to buy list. Now its just scandalous how EA rips us off and challenges our memories and intelligence. And what also sucks for me as a PC gamer, I have to go all the way for 2006 to get any proper World Cup games. They did not release the 2010 or the 2014 edition for the PC, which I was and still am disappointed about.

The world cup update this year is honestly like the tournament itself, a fucking disgrace. EA had 4 years to come up with something that makes playing the world cup worth while, heck I was willing to accept a repeat of 2018 cause it was a different experience than normal but I am getting turned off of the idea that the only way we can experience this world cup is to grind or spend shit loads of money on FUT for absolutely nothing. They could have very easily gotten together all the licenses of every country, slapped it together to make the qualifying campaign be there again and just make us pay extra to play the world cup mode which no one would complain instead of the bullshit they're giving us

It's the World Cup mode that a World Cup in Qatar deserves.

Plus these world cup features don t get to career mode and player career mode.🤢

I was laughing when I heard they put 15 unqualified teams. For guys who’s waiting surprise don’t waste your euphoria… THOSE 15 teams are just the others 15 teams on the regular fifa which are : Austria, China PR, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Romania, Scotland, Sweden, Ukraine They just lazy af. When they said 2 stadiums I couldn’t believe it. I was not expecting much and the tournament mode is all I care about playing authentically I miss all the other nations and qualifying but I knew we wouldn’t get it so I just expected the full authentic mode and I was still over hyped.. I didn’t even think that something as basic as stadiums is something I should of questioned so when they said 2 stadiums my heart genuinely broke no joke. I just cannot f*cking believe it and there’s nothing we can do. Im literally not even gonna play the mode I cannot be bothered. ITS THE BIGGEST EVENT ON THE PLANET AND EA DONT CARE. Idk man I’m on ps5 I literally bought fifa 23 for this mode. It’s my favourite thing every 4 years to watch a World Cup and to play World Cup modes in amazing stadiums, amazing atmospheres with that special vibe you won’t get anywhere else. With the graphics available and all the things you can do there was so much potential. Now I can’t have the build up doing runs with teams like Ghana in their stadiums they will play in or Portugal. My team Australia only plays in one stadium this World Cup well it’s not in the game. Just adds to the depression man I still can’t get over the bad vibes. I wish it didn’t have to be this way.. rant over

It says something when the World Cup '98 standalone game....on PS1/PC/N64 had arguably more features. 24 years ago. Scratch that, that at least had all the stadiums. Some of the stadiums for the 2014 World Cup game weren't even finished in real life, but EA made the effort to put them in as accurate as they could. But only two stadiums in this mode is ridiculous. Group D of the World Cup (France/Denmark/Australia/Tunisia) won't even be playing at *either* of those two stadiums in real life in the group stage. 2018 was bad enough when you couldn't do the qualifying process. That was the first WC game where you couldn't play through the qualifying process.....since *1994*. The World Cups in between had either qualification as part of the vanilla FIFA that year (98/2002) or as part of the WC game (06/10/14). Not to mention the latter two World Cup games made a concentrated effort to make sure the atmosphere was different if you were playing either a friendly, a qualifier, or the actual World Cup. There's also little details. 2014 had cutscenes where they showed watch parties in certain countries (for instance showing German fans watching on the big screen outside Brandenburg Gate in Berlin or England fans in Trafalgar Square). Every single country had their national anthem in the game. Over 200 of them. Specific commentary for certain countries making the final or winning it. Hearing Clive Tyldsley say "Four time finalists. First time winners" as you win the World Cup with the Netherlands in the 2014 game or raving about Spain winning four straight major tournaments in that same game was amazing. Instead we're not getting a World Cup game. 2018 and 2022 feel more like lightly modded versions of vanilla FIFA than they do actual standalone World Cup games. Literally the only....THE ONLY thing that EA did well with this mode.....is their ultimate soundtrack voting currently going on right now.

Mate you missed a big one. The online mode doesn’t have a group stage anymore, it’s straight knock out. Remember the older games where the group stage existed online? Brilliant coding back then which made you play 3 different people who didn’t play each other but it calculated a final standings for you based of your 3 results plus virtual results of the other 3 teams? Yeah, that was too hard to do again so straight knockout now.

What is don’t get is why not sell the wc 2022 as it’s own game like they did with 14 it bings in more money for ea and they wouldn’t have to worry about having too much on the game

To be honest, they probably had eight years if we think hard about it. We knew about Russia and Qatar around the same time, and EA can easily brainstorm Qatar's game mode while working on the Russia one. Which makes this even worse in some ways

one of the best rants about EA I've ever heard. EA don't have any competition. that's why they don't care about the game because still it's gonna sell good. In 2010, 2014 PES was actually good so they wanted to make their game better.

Just wait until modders will mod the game and add it all also if I was a EA owner I would care for the consumer removing fifa points adding more realistic carrer mode settings like FFP VAR that could be toggled on or off also taking out TIFOS, bundles I would ban Bateson and ea sellouts creator network would be to showcase the game but be changed so there squads would be reset and they would have to earn everything from scratch like everyone else SBC requirements made easier.

We'll always have 2010... To think of the effort they put in then. The debate used to be: is it worth another £xx on top of the annual FIFA release. They used to put so much into it that yes, yes it was. I know FUT makes them complacent now, but how about professional pride, at least!

Couldn't agree more with a lot of this. Why are there 13 countries from the World cup missing from the Kick Off mode option? Of the 13, where the hell is Brazil in Kick Off mode especially? If it's all license related surely you either don't bother with World Cup mode or sort it for an event that's only once every four years? It's a joke....

Well, I will give EA some slack. I am personally boycotting this World Cup in Qatar due to humanity rights reasons. Not getting stadiums on which builders have died is justified in my book. As for the rest, I fully agree. EA was slacking off. Maybe cause it's last time they will release World Cup game mode. Maybe because it's coming as "free" add-on to the game they didn't care much about it (which is weird as FIFA 18 had World Cup mode and it was quite amazing).
