I said WOW just second before you did!! As a Boomer I've been to many classical concerts but this was really WOW! Thanks Harri and Cynthia for this treat 😍.
That was Kevin Olusola (on cello) and Matt Sallee (on drums) from Pentatonix. Other band members also play instruments...both Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying play piano. Kevin's Fifth has been a regular part of last year's tour performances ( they use a recording of the orchestra normally), but Kevin and Matt did this on every performance during their latest US tour. The group still does 90% of their pieces a capella.....Kevin's cello appears in only a handful of the 200+ pieces the group has done.
"The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth" is currently a standard part of a Pentatonix concert, though the only members on stage are Kevin and Matt. Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable) is a remarkable person, and a remarkable musician. He has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on cello and once on saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. The rhythm part of a band consists of bass and percussion. In Pentatonix that means Matt and Kevin, so Kevin works closely with Matt, just as he used to work closely with Avi. And in "Kevin's Fifth" Kevin gives Matt a chance to show off his drumming ability, a skill he normally doesn't get to use with Pentatonix. The "orchestra conductor" in this clip is actually a professional dancer. You can find his web page here: www.lilbuck.com/
Thank you Harri too bad it was a bit dark but it amazed me when I saw it. "When the conductor also happens to be a world class dancer as well. Charles "Lil Buck" Riley is an American dancer, actor and model from Memphis Tennessee, who specializes in a style of street dance called Jookin. He gained popularity after Spike Jonze used his cellphone to record an interpretive performance of the Dying Swan with Yo-Yo Ma".
Cynthia, you sly fox. This was off the chain and I wish Ludwig was around to enjoy this adaptation du jour. I give it a full 5 Stars (I am out of lava lamps at the moment). Simply superb submission and review by Harri.
You don’t recognize Kevin and Matt from PtX? 😂❤ Pentatonix concerts are amazing. I’ve been to 2 over the last few years, and they get better and better.
They definitely still do mostly a capella. It's just on occasion that Kevin plays his cello and always when the song warrants it or is improved with it's use.
@@vickiroman189 , Matt was on the drums. That's his instrument. All of the group play an instrument except Kirstie (I've not seen her play anything yet). Kevin plays cello, sax, keyboard, Mitch plays piano as does Scott.... Matt plays drums.
I LOVE BEETHOVEN IT IS SO GOOD AND HE WAS DEAF. THAT MAKES ME THINK OF PHILIPPIANS 4:13 I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENS ME. AMEN 🙌🙏🏽❤ BUT THEY ALSO PUT ON THE SONG CALLED THE FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN THAT WAS A WHILE BACK AT 80'S I THINK.
Kevin’s Fifth was performed by Kevin, the beatboxer, on the cello and Matt, the bass, on the drums. They performed this on PTX tours during their intermissions. Here is a link to another Kevin’s Fifth performance that is explained much better: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DbCasvcNx78.htmlsi=jnlamx0U8ly40vOR Recommend another live Kevin & Matt performance of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. The rhythm doesn't fit correctly. It sound like Two records mixed by a bad Dj. Walter Murphy did a much better job with the same theme. I recommend you to look for that version and you will see. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SAuqQr5YtjY.htmlfeature=shared
@@samuelgates5935are we rewriting history? Since when did Beethoven become a black man? Not that it would matter to me what color he was but let's stick with the facts. Maybe you were just joking.
@@samuelgates5935from internet. Ultimately, there is no reason to believe that Beethoven was Black: the genealogical evidence going back to the 1400s shows unambiguously that Beethoven's family was Flemish. Speculative anecdotes from the early 19th century about his swarthy complexion, broad nose and coarse, black hair are unsourced and racist.
