Is it really being "blinded by nostalgia" to have a different opinion than you? This is great, but I'm personally not a fan of the live jazz band style that Yoko went for in this version, so I prefer the original
The first time I heard this, I immediately got invested into my first fight. Banger theme, especially when you rack up action commands, and the music gets more bombastic
@@link839 You know in the game when you get more successful action commands you get more buffs? The music gets more instruments in it when you get a chain of 5 or more. Including this one. I really liked that edition, made the music feel a lot more dynamic

Except that the old version (Yaridovich) was way more difficult than the new one. I was slightly under the recommended level to be taking on this historically difficult fight. Boy, was I disappointed when I beat him in 3 turns. I didn't even get to see his signature Mirage Attack. What a let down...
The funny thing is that this is more intense, but the battles overall are not until postgame, and none of Smithy’s gang, for obvious reasons, are around postgame.
You understand music. Thanks. While I agree with all the positive comments on here… this is what’s off about this track for me. I was explaining the difference to my wife and started mimicking the original SNES bass part by mouth while playing this. If they just amped and beefed that bass a little more…. it would kick like the original did a bit more with all the added trimmings.
YOOO Yoko Shimomura brought back the bonus melody from the demo version of the original soundtrack at 0:16, interesting (it's in the SMRPG promotional video tracks playlist, if you're curious)
This theme works better for how ridiculous some of these bosses work. The bosses were never sinister, they were wacky. This music exemplifies their wackiness more than the original theme did, which is still very good in its own right.
I like the original more, but I still really like this remake of the song, I really like the added part in (0:16) and also how grand it sounds as the song ends
The original was a banger, and this one is even more of a banger. Though I have to admit I was a little distracted by Mack’s name being changed to “Claymorton” (probably due to copyright)

Some of you guys are treating this version like literal sin lol no this isn't ear grating at all. I do wish the percussion had more presence tho but that's just more of a preference thing
This is neat, but the original is better. This one just doesn't have the same cojones. and is just too casual for a boss fight. This would be a fine gimmick/slightly stronger enemy theme but it just isn't a square game without a boss theme that gets you grooving and pumped to go all out.
To me, this sounds better because it makes the bosses sound like a legitimate threat instead just being a goofy song Edit: (Also keep this in mind I have never played this game or the remake) yes I know that other mario rpgs song have a goofy vibe I just never knew this was a boss theme untill months ago,(cuz I always use to hear to in smg4 videos when i was a kid) to me the og just don't fit the vibe at times
First time I heard this song me and my brother are taking turns (not ideal but neither of us fully understood English) so he had Mack and I had Yaridovich. First notes, Water Blast, entire party on red. This ingrained me a sense of "this is not Goofy time".
No Clarinet? I was under the impression it was understood how important it was to the identity of the song :( Like this is still good but the clarinet was what made this track memorable.
I can’t stop listening to this! This game is challenging, charming, beautiful, and this song is absolutely genius! And so Mario rpg-esque. I see where paper Mario and Mario and Luigi get their themes from 🥹 I think I’m in the final level on the remake. Can’t wait to finally see Smithy!
I really like this version. Compared to the original it just feels different. I haven’t played the new game yet. The original had like a minimalist feel to it. This one sounds like a fun arrangement. Sounds like a “One Winged Angel” kind of vibe to me.
