Glad you liked it. Everybody here is blown away with the special effects of the movie. Again, the kind of budget we have for action movies is kind of really low compared to Hollywood productions, but surprisingly this did impress in most parts. This is just more than we expected from a 250 crore movie vs a 1500 crore movie like Maverick.
India actually gave naturalistic acting to west, our first wave came in 50s, and directors like martin scorsese grew up watching our directors films like Satyajit Ray. And our first wave was the longest. Also we make movies with all kinds of tones and style since beginning, even western movies make movies with all kinds of tones and style. West just like to stereotyping and defame to cut competition and make image of other globally for decades and centuries. We never done. We never done that because thats not our personality and we dont think like that, but we should have.
Finally, you being honest about an Indian movie... We need more of that! Some people just fake appreciate Indian movies to get more views. Its nice to see someone being actually honest. Today's Indian recommendation: Dangal

These are just . popcorn action entertainers like big action summer blockbusters in hollywood. But India does make serious, grounded films as well. Just that their distribution isnt as wide spread as these big budget over the top mass movies. But they can still be found globally on various ott platforms. For example the best indian movies of 2023 like 12th fail , Kathaal the core, jigarthanda double x, tora's husband, irratta, among others are hardly known outside India even though they are far superior films than popular action entertainers like pathaan, tiger 3, leo etc
As an Indian movie buff, I loved the film. Totally enjoyed the theatre experience and your review feels very genuine. But obviously being an Indian, that movie's patriotic moments pumped me up more. To be honest, even though it was an action film, the director has struck the right cord with the emotional moments and has set up the premise pretty well. and ofcourse, as per the budget the VFX quality surprised me tbh, great standard set for Bollywood. Two Things :- • I didn't know Top Gun featured Pulwama Attack & Balakot Airstrike that happened in 2019 (which "Fighter" is loosely based of) but I don't expect people to research on that considering it's a different country film. • Comparing a movie made on a $30mil budget to a $180mil budget - that's funny. I don't think Hollywood can pull off any action movie, let alone an Aerial Actioner, at $30mil budget.
I'm not sure I follow. I gave the film a positive review. The movie has very clear influences from Top Gun. That it's loosely based on real events doesn't change the similarities in the fictional elements. I pointed out elements looked cartoonish or artificial. Which is true. I also gave the movie a positive review and said I enjoyed it.

Maverick chases woman (both in 1 & 2nd one too), Patty doesn't, Patty is extremely emotional & vulnerable - how are they both similar then just because they are cocky & arrogant? That aside, Where are the Ground Level Action in Top Gun? Where are the Garud Commando scenes in Top Gun? Where was the terror blast sequence (real incident btw, 40 soldiers died in that incident) in Top Gun? Where were the Balakot Airstrike type scenes in Top Gun? Do only American Pilots wear Aviators? Did Top Gun invent Air Combat Techniques? Should have emphasized on all the original scenes & plot points that Fighter brought to the table instead of comparing it to Top Gun & making it sound like a half a**ed attempt at the end.

I loved the ridiculous bombast of this film. The please joke, the ejection trick, the cartoon villain going rambo and the montage segments were all incredible
The Movie is Made on a Budget of What Tom cruise Charged for Top Gun Alone 😂 I bet you Sean if Indian Movies Get the budget of $200M-$300M they can make Better VFX than Avatar
I understand. I gave the film a positive review. I said I enjoyed it. But I think it would be dishonest to not point out parts looked off or cartoonish. That's the purpose of a review.

Try checking out malaikottai vaaliban if it's near you. It is from the director of jallikkattu. the indian audience is split between,some saying it's bad while others calling it a masterpiece.would like to know your opinion also.
Hilarious paced sequences with editing that will give your brain whiplash, patriotism and politics that smacks you on the head again and again, and action that could’ve gone towards actually developing characters - But man was this movie hype. Second act finally had some good development and while my eye rolled in several moments, they were absolutely glued to the screen as the energy, emotion, and excitement kept me locked in for 3 hours - that’s worth something.
Sean you should REALLY watch 'Article 370' when it comes out on February 23th next month. That story is actually based on military/war real events that happened in India. This is more original story and these are the type of Bollywood that other part of the countries should knowledge more and watch. Not this Masala typical military Top Gun wannabe movie. I would love to see a review of Article 370 if you ever review someday and let's hope it get release in US as well. Good day.

Dil Chahta Hai is quintessential Bollywood viewing. Would love a ranking of director Farhan Akhtar's filmography . There are only 4 movies so would not be a mountain to go through.
I mean I can understand where you're coming from, for your critiques regarding it's visuals and special effects, when compared with Top Gun movies but just to give you a perspective on that, Top Gun Maverick budget is almost $180 Million USD and Fighter budget is $30 Million USD. The special effects, CG and VFX is done by the same company who did all Marvel, Christopher Nolan and many more with heavy CGI, which is DNEG. So, it's not that why Fighter does not look as good as Top Gun is only because of budget constraints. I do believe that when you don't have a budget, some out-of-the-box ideas must be brainstormed by the producers to make a movie that does justice to the subject and just not rely only on VFX to do the all work. Like Chris Nolan did in his previous movies (except Oppenheimer), that use CG to enhance, not create. But in defence of Fighter, I think this is one instance where us Indians would really like to give an 'A' for the effort and how they seamlessly integrated a fictional story with real life incidents and also making a genuinely entertaining and a patriotic movie. We accept this movie as ours with all of it's "flaws".
Me too I love Leo more than those two. It's because I guess the way the action were handled,music and story like History of Violence are more my cup of tea. So I would choose Leo anyday. I love those other movies too. Don't get me wrong.

this movie is the best Indian version of what happened on 27 February 19. what actually happened is well another matter. India was 3 aircrafts down. one helicopter fell victim to its own SAM systems and 2 jets shot down by Pakistani F-16s well that doesn't matter because movie is more convincing . the Indians totally demolished entire Pakistan and went on to conquer the Universe.

Well, if you place Top Gun Maverick so high in your vocab, then you must know that many scenes and maneuvers in Top Gun Maverick were actually similar, if not same, as those shown in the 2004 bollywood film "Agnipankh" (Translation: Wings of Fire).
Please tell me there's no music video in it. That's one element of Indian movies that I just can't stand. Takes me right out of the story because they are so, so silly to me. Fortunately, they aren't in all of the movies I've seen. Hopefully that's not the case with this one.
Yeah this is one I wont run out to see because I grew up in NYC on Indian and Hollywood films. NO way I want to see the predictable BS repeated. Love Hrithik but I knew it what it would be all you say. But for Indians who live in India and young enough not to know the original TOP GUN won't care. But to be fair Sean, you grew up on just Hollywood, so will do that uneven comparisons thing. And you can't watch them with the same eyes. You can only do that after you have experienced the VAST history of Indian cinema and know why they are what they are. Keep in mind it's made to distract Indians from their lives, thus their lengths. All of these are like comic book movies of India but there are lot of realistic serious cinema as well that gets made but sadly doesn't get as big theatrical release outside India due to its smaller budgets compared to these over the top spectacles. All the movies you have seen are just one genre of Indian cinema
