I have built stairs next to a wall before. Basically the same way you were going about it, but im pretty sure i was able to start placing the logs from the ground up after placing all the steps instead of placing a log over to top to form the frame like you had tried.
I’ve always wanted to build a village. Some small cabins and houses connected by a rock path with a town hall. I would also add a section for food and resources for the town.
Build the stairs first then fill the wall from the floor up after, you must have at least 1 step placed to be able to start filling the wall, forget about the top support beam, the wall should do the job just fine
Back when I was playing the forest I loved the idea of building multiple tree houses and just ziplining to one another like this, I just hope I can play this game and create something like this.
@14:45 He is just trying to help you build the base... Or,, he want to put his friend out of his misery? Not idea why, but it's pretty damn cool to see the natives hauling logs.
You can only build stairs against a wall if the nearest planks are running the same length as the logs you wish to place. I did it by placing the planks next to the stairs and just dealing with a small platform on the outside of my wall. You might be able to make it work if you run the planks under the stairs in that direction.
the way you build stairs is build the stairs first then go to the side where you want the wall to be if u look at the ground it will give you the option to place a wall, but not the cross beam
I guess Virginia becomes more of a protective ally once you have built trust, and given her clothes and guns. I hope they don't nerf her I like the idea that she mutated differently. Her being slightly OP with guns if you work to get her as a companion is great. Just like my other comment I hope they build into it and make her suggestible to basic commands like protect base. But if she's on your side, armed, it seems she'll find you in the top world and is amazing for base protection while building etc. Idk if I've seen anyone take her into caves, except for when she teleports during the... Oh wait that hasn't happened on this channel so I'm not gonna spoiler. Basically part of current endgame content, which I really hope means it will be further built up, story wise, as it seems like, as with the rest of the game, they are trying to nail mechanics before implementing all the heavy lore and plot. Just enough of a tease right now, regarding the first game, but I have high hopes for the storyline, really interesting implications in the game right now but of course also very vague.
Stairs are ridiculous. I have one set of stairs, on one side of my house, and it won't let me make a set, exactly the same, on the other side!!!! Everything is literally identical, but nope. No stairs are possible. I literally chopped the place up and walked away. A week of work, ruined by stupid frustration.
Sheeet even nerfed in half that shotty packs a punch. Still think it should do more damage against mutants with no armor though (maybe more like 70-75% original damage). I think making ammo more scarce would be the better way to go, or be able to reload shells with like coins and shitty powder that is much weaker, compared to the proper ammo. Hopefully gets balanced out well by release (there will prob be an "early access shotgun damage" mod anyway, some ppl just want a shotgun to be devastating).
the weapon not appearing right happened to me after picking up that shotgun for the second time. my hang glider was held backwards and all weapons were held behind me. I was swarmed by cannibals and had to turn my back to them and swing to hit them. I took some pills and the bug fixed itself, must have been a bacterial bug.
Maybe if you made the wall first then tried to make the staircase it would work? This game is really anal about placement. You should have a base attached to the side of the cliff. Kibbles Gaming just did a tutorial on how to build one hanging on the walls near a waterfall.
Is it just me or did anyone else see the silhouette of the leaves on the trees against the frozen lake, but since it’s winter there not actually there (3:13)?
FIRST TO COMMENT ! HEY BROAD YOU AMAZING PLZ THIS IS AN AWESOME SERIES , WHEN THEY BRING DEDICATED SERVERS DO YOU THINK YOU COUDL START ONE FOR ALL OF YOUR FANS OR FRO RU-vid MEMBERS !!!!!!!
Seems like mutants will wipe out cannibal bases, and then you may have them to deal with. Something I've seen in other LPs. I think it's something that changes dynamically.
stairs can go against the wall if: its facing certain direction (bug?) you build it in this order 2 posts, horizontal log, stairs, 1-2 more posts, fill in the walls/more horizontal logs and your lucky
I started playing Sons of the Forest a few days ago and I'm loving it! I'm so glad I found your channel. Super entertaining and informative. Loving it!
in order to have ur stairs next to a wall the floor planks that are underneath the stairs need to go the same direction as the wall then u can fill the wall up from the bottem its been a little bugged sins they added angled roofs so far the only way to do it
I have built stairs next to walls before. I can't think of how I did it right now. You just have to mess around with putting things on in different orders. The game is picky that way
Just put Virginia in charge of tenant eviction, with her psychic aim and unlimited ammo. I kind of hope they don't patch it to where she needs ammo constantly. I'd hope they add the ability for commands, like "patrol an X meter radius from here." Or at least make Kelvin useful for combat whatsoever, but I like V as an innocently deadly as fuck character, reminds me of River Tam from Firefly/Serenity. Casual headshots while looking the other way, no signs of remorse, just calculation. IDK. Another thing that may help, and make the perpetually respawning items a little less OP, is to have crafting for traps that require things like a grenade cache, or like a tripwire shotgun. If you wanted to make multiple gun traps, basically one shot turrets til you reset them, you'd actually be incentified to farm multiple shotguns. It's still a weird game mechanics but who knows what will change, for early access this is very polished, I feel like it's a beta build except for the story which probably makes them call it an alpha because they went to nail the mechanics, and then fill in the blanks. Still a lot of blanks, but at least we know the engine is pretty solid so they can focus on da good sheet. They had to retcon the first game a little bit with this one so I'm hoping they really have an intense plot to drop with the 1.0 release.
Don't know if you're aware of it, but there's a hang glider near your little cabin base. I know it was a frustrating time, but it was still a great video. The footage of Virginia taking down those cannibals was on point.
you could have placed that staircase on the side there. the reason you couldnt put the top frame on the wall is because you have to actually build the wall up from the bottom until you get to the frame, then you can remove the pieces under it.
There is something happening that you have to replace logs around the log that don't want to be place and you'll be able to place that log. It's annoying but you can do it :)
I also had that shotgun glitch. I think it's when you have the shotgun bound to a hotkey, lose possession of it (i.e. giving it to Vriginia) and then getting a new one. I think I got it to be visible again after I ziplined to my base and got it out again.
