PS: For anyone still struggling to do so I encourage you to swing your mii to the sides throughout the match, if you get to dogde a punch time freezes and grants you a free hit. Repeating that process will eventually drop Matt but is still a very intense and burdensome task.

I find one of the best tactics that worked for me to beat matt is constantly block your face since that's where he basically always goes to damage you. Then continuously dodge side to side and whenever you get the slow motion dodge punch him square in the face. Effective since he cant block it if it's a slow motion dodge and you get more reaction time.
