Ha Ha. It's mostly because WI gets a bad rap for the size of their fish. I'd argue fishing in the state is as good as it's ever been but there are others that will say otherwise. I personally think it's a great state to fish musky. Thanks again for watching and Good Luck

@@TeamRhinoOutdoors It's a similar situation here in PA. The yearling stocking survival ratio is 3:1 here and improvements to handling techniques are causing a boom in population. In that sense the Musky fishing is better now than its ever been. Then you have waters that are low population but have some giants. Finding water that has both numbers and giants is difficult as a number of environmental factors have to come together. WV is a bit different as there are 2 different strains being stocked in a diverse set of waters. Additionally the govenor has increased the stocking of various trout which has been a huge factor in creating some big fish.

We couldn't do that when we stocked these. They will now allow Shawano to be stocked with Great Lakes strain musky we just need to be able to find them to buy.

The DNR dictates what strains we can plant. Those are Wisconsin Barred strain. I’m sure the description is just a generalized number.

@@jimmyg8656 if it’s any consolation, moving forward all GB drainage lakes , which includes these, will be stocked with GB Great Lakes strain. But unfortunately that pretty much inhibits private stocking for clubs like us because there are currently no fish farms that brood those. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@InfamousTactical I heard that, and that is good news.... doesnt do much for us up here in northern wisc tho... The DNR and their "science" hasnt faired to well for the muskie fishermen. The long time guides like Rizzo, Sleight,Maina and Herbeck... all told the DNR that things aint working like their "science" suggests.....ergghhh, but what do those guides know??

I'm from Dodgeville where they are based. Our local lake gets some leftovers for stocking as well and the normal every other year stocking efforts from the DNR and there are fish that make the 50" mark. Barred muskies grow slower and live longer traditionally if successful catch and release efforts are done.

This is just normal barred WI strain musky. They always have the spots when they are young. Thanks for watching

@@TeamRhinoOutdoors would be nice if the Madison DNR could see their way to getting some Mississippi river strain in selected lakes. I grew up on Boulder Junction&Flambeau Flowage fish back when there was some big girls left.
