This video is about the Range Extender Battery or P2 Battery for the Fiido Electric-Bike range, in my case the Fiido C21 Pro e-Gravel bike. It has been recorded in 2 stages. The 1st on the 18th of February and the 2nd on the 21st of April 2024.
The intention was to convery my experiences on this product (call it a product review if you want) in the hope that they can be of use by people with the same bike or that have the intention of acquiring this bike or bikes from this brand.
This video has NOT been sponsered by Fiido and I paid for the bike and the range extender battery with my own money. I have NO affiliation to Fiido whatsoever.
Hope the video is useful to someone. If you enjoyed it or if it helped you in some want, please do leave a Thumbs-up and subscribe to the channel.
Thanks for watching!

Its a good bike, I like it. Can it send information about the ride to your smartphone?
@EyeCycled
@EyeCycled 2 месяца назад
Well, in a way... The bike connects to the smartphone Fiido App (I have an Android phone, but I think the App is also available for iPhones). I've reviewed the App in a previous video. The data can be send to Fiido which has an online "Facebook" like social feed that users can share rides and information between each other. If however the question was related to whether the Fiido App can relay the riding information to Apps such as Strava or others, NO, it cannot.

So which battery is used first? And is it easy to remove and charge the extender battery? I want to take it inside and leave the bike outside.
@IshanAditya
@IshanAditya Месяц назад
The battery with the higher voltage (more charge) is used first. Once both batteries are at the same voltage, both are used in conjunction. As you can imagine, if you leave your bike outside, you can use it off of the extender only - but your bike battery will never be charged and that's not good for the health of the built-in battery. If bringing the bike indoors to charge is not an option for you, then this isn't the right bike IMO.

It's a few weeks later and I had forgotten that I had already commented on Your video ..old age I guess. This time I was prompted to comment from just aesthetic lines. I love the bike as it is but the extender destroys its visual appearence in a moment. I can kid the old ladies around here that I am a stud when I ride my C21 ..but if I fit an extender I look like an old fart. I chose the C21 for its sleek lines and gears so as to be as close to a normal bike as possible. I'd rather ride around wearing a Bra than fit an extnder :-) I saw a review of yours where you described the app? My take away was that it wasn't necessary, which is cool because I can't read my smart phone anyway :-) 11:20 Dang! It updates the bike!? OK I'll get it. 13:40 Just joking here again ..You are on Grass not Gravel! Which is cool 'cos I only got grass around here 🙂

This Utuber is useless! He seems to be on the verge of dementia as he stumbles about trying to find the right word and doesn't seem to understand the product he is reviewing! He never did explain how the secondary battery works in the system and seems perplexed by the whole process of doing a review.

The bike is fine but the battery is rubbish. I barely get 25km on level 2 assist with some hill's. I dont know why they couldnt make a 360wh battery. 208wh is only good for local commutes. I have the range extender and it transitions smoothly to the main battery. When you have it in rocket mode it definitely puts more strain on the motor.
@EyeCycled
@EyeCycled 2 месяца назад
I only left it in rocket mode as an attempt to drain the battery more quickly. The rides I did after this one I switch back to "normal" mode (if that is what is called). I agree with the comment... Bike is good but range leaves something to be desired.

Had they put a larger battery in there you wouldn't have bothered about this bike in the first place. The whole deal with this bike is that it's light and thin. Add a larger battery and you throw all that away. I got 42kms on my first ride from 100% battery down to 10%. I mostly ride on Eco, going into Normal mode once in a while just to handle the hills.
@MrJustsaysean
@MrJustsaysean Месяц назад
@IshanAditya the estarli is about a kg lighter but has a 360wh battery so they could've added another 100wh at least. Anybody I know barely uses eco cos that defeats the point of an ebike. It's there to take the brunt of the effort.
@IshanAditya
@IshanAditya Месяц назад
@@MrJustsaysean I see, this might just not be for you then. Fits my bill perfectly though... I want to get some exercise, but when I'm not up to the task 'Normal' mode and above work great if I want an effortless ride. Another thing I love about the small battery is that it goes from 10% to 60% in a little over an hour... But you're right, it's a city bike. I got the range extender for the occasional long ride, and I don't plan to have it plugged in at all times.

@IshanAditya I have the bike, it quick and fun and I have the range extender but they defo shouldve given the battery more range. Also I feel as if the motor assists well beyond 25kph, assisting up to 32kph....and I'm not complaining. Do yours feel the same?

I can tell you how it works, the external battery is actually charging the main battery.

that wouldn't explain, why the battery indicator jumped from empty to full.

5:00 It could be that the sensors are detecting the main battery only and not the back up as well ? It's a cock up for sure. Your enginering sense is quite good 🙂 9:30 Lol that is a good day in The UK! 🙂 11:40 The word you are loking for is 'magic' :-) I know it would be a hassle but if you were to remove the extendeder battery and then see what the bike thinks? Just a thought 🙂

Thanks for the comment. I don't know what the additional battery controller that came with the range extender does. My guess is that it simply measures the voltage of both and selects the highest. I didn't remove the extender battery as suggested, but I turned it off in the switch. Nothing appeared to happen.

@@IshanAditya I think that that is a guess? Fiido wouldn't invest in a component making clever decisions. It is all down to how the sensors are wired into the battery supplies, pure and simple, nothing clever. The display is just simply wrong because once batteries are connected their output is combined, there is no nonsese about who comes first.
@IshanAditya
@IshanAditya Месяц назад
@@alphalunamare That's not a guess. It's mentioned in their official material, I read it before ordering my external battery. "Fiido wouldn't invest in a component making clever decisions." - Why wouldn't they? Because it's Chinese? If Baidu can best Tesla, then Fiido can make thoughtful design decisions too I'm sure.

This battery extender is a joke… bad engineering in first place and only adds to the bad quality of the bike
