When I was doing my student teaching I also did Ira sleeps over with my first graders. We created a sequencing quilt. That was many years ago (1994) lol I also read it with my third graders too and they loved it. TRA time was my favorite time in the classroom.
Great book haul! I had my best library book haul ever too. I was thrilled to find several like new Elizabeth Cadell, about 3 D. E. Stevenson, a Margery Sharp book [Stone of Chastity] and a Mary Stewart. I also found Mapp and Queen Lucia books and a couple of British Library mysteries. And quite a few Allingham whom I’ve yet to try. I was thrilled! I wish that I could find the people in my community that like these books. I’d love to have a local book club for the British fiction writers from the WWI - late 50’s early 60’s era. It’s so rare that I find these books in the used bookstores and especially in such like new condition. I was so happy with my finds.
Oh my word… RF Delderfield!! Those are the most stunning copies I’ve ever seen! I’m so jealous. If I can share an emotional attachment to those books: they take me back to my first job as a young page in a library and I was a terrible Shelf stacker because the books would absolutely mesmerise me! I didn’t get a lot of work done. LOL. One day I put away a book called A Horseman Riding By. That was by RF Delderfield. The cover was stunning and I’ve never forgotten that moment. I got goosebumps and just couldn’t take my eyes off this book. For some reason I never ended up reading it or buying one. Over the years I’ve looked for it and one day I found it in a charity shop super cheap and I was so thrilled! I have to confess that the sheer huge size has always put me off starting it! LOL, but at least it’s on my shelves and on my TBr list so we’re making progress! that book is also part of one of his series. Well done for finding those three gorgeous books! Looking forward to your review of them.
I would have a hard time resisting this kind of sale 😂 ira sleeps over looks so sweet. What a great haul! I like black and white penguin classics as well. I store them all on the same shelf 😊
Mitzi you found some great books! I have not heard of most of them except the Agatha Christie books I think - nice finds on those! ! I was just at my library today and spotted a Miss Read collection but I did not have $2 on me at the time! I will have to go back tomorrow and hope it is still there!😅
Ira Sleeps Over is a childhood favorite of mine, and it was a go-to read-aloud when I was working as a children's librarian. So fun to see it in your bag!
What a great haul! Those are really quality books. You have a good eye! Oh my, that cover does look like it could Jane Eyre. You find the most amazing books. God for sure blessed you with that Ira book. He cares about even our smallest desires. 😊
Lizzie Faye said she likes the Patchwork Quilt mysteries. That was interesting about your major. My friends were education majors but I didn’t know what they did. Have you ever read Peanut Butter Friends in a Chop Suey World? That was mentioned on And read another Chapter and I thought I had read it. So I ordered it. 😊
Several months ago, I became enthused about reading Agatha Christie books. I could not find any used copies in my local thrift stores or library book sales. But one day there was an advertisement on Facebook for a collection 71 Agatha Christie books. I jumped on the offer. I have been reading them between reading my other TBR books. Are you interested in having them as I finish reading them? I met the seller in a public parking lot and he put 3 heavy boxes of books in my car trunk, they are still there as I take out a few books at a time to read.
I watched this several days ago and am finally getting around to commenting. I just read the first Agatha Raisin book and enjoyed it. I had been told by someone years ago that I probably wouldn't like Agatha, but I liked her just fine. I have that whole Patchwork Mystery series by Guideposts and have read the first 5. I prefer to read in order, but I think you could read the ones you have and see if you like them and be just fine. The series is about a woman who is a quilt restorer. She finds clues in the quilts she is working on. The mysteries are historical in nature and there haven't been any murders yet. I think you would really enjoy them.
I was looking up Ira Sleeps Over from my library. It is sooo popular they even have a braille copy that surprised me. So I will definitely keep this in mind for future kids🙂
I love Edith Wharton, and that book was 5 stars for me. I found the the 2nd through the 5th of those Anne books at thift stores too. In great shape, on the lookout for the rest. I have only read the first two. Great haul!
Awww 🥰, Ira Sleeps Over! 😊 Sweet story. What a great Christie! I’m always thrilled when I find an Agatha Christie in the wild because it’s rare. Terrific haul!
Ohhhh, a Christmas book haul! I can’t wait🥰 I loved your Ira lesson memory and it’s so sweet you found that copy at your book sale. I had so many of the Christie books in the old style paperbacks that over the years I’ve lost, but I do still have a few. I’ve never heard of the Susan Branch book but I’ll bet it’s beautiful. Edith Wharton is a favorite author of mine and the House of Mirth is probably my second favorite. I don’t think anything will topple the Age of Innocence from #1, but I do love them all. You found some real treasures 💕
I love the covers of the Delderfield books ❤ I'm going to look into them! I got that same copy of The Flight of the Falcon years ago at a Goodwill but still haven't read it. Shocker 😂
Great haul! I own around fifty of the mass market vintage Agatha Christie and I love them❤ I love when they have the price in the corner and the cover art is so good on the older ones!
What a wonderful book haul! Can't wait to see the Christmas books you have! As for buying duplicate books 🙄 I'm also guilty. I have duplicate books of Daphne du maurier Rebecca but there's countless other authors to😊
❤📚📚❤️ I read Ira Sleeps Over years and years ago...I'd forgotten about it. What a treasure. Loved your sharing about your memories attached to the book!
Those Delderfield covers are so pretty. That one book's cover does look like Jane Eyre's Rochester and his house! 👀 Swiss Family Robinson has been a favorite of all of my kids. I have read it 3 times! And then talked them each out of moving to a deserted island to live and have adventures... 😂
I love the Patchwork series. Sarah is a wonderful MC and the mysteries are cozy. They are by different authors and are published by Guidepost. I’ve read up to 11 and have enjoyed them all. I don’t think you have to read them in order, but I think you will enjoy them that way. 🎉 happy reading!
YAY!!!!! So glad you will be reading Fairytale Girl! I always held my breath when you spinned the wheel, hoping you would not have to read Isle Of Dreams first☺
You've found some lovely books! 📚 The House of Mirth! Whew 😅, that book was quite an experience for me. I had to read it many years ago in college, read it again some years later, but when I tried to read it a third time not long ago, I couldn't do it, the sadness level was beyond my ability to handle. Well worth reading though!
@@annas.7725 I know. So frustrating that, had they been average rather than upper class, she and the handsome young guy could have married and probably been very happy. The ironic title!!!!
I read the RF Delderfield books ages ago and really enjoyed them. I hadn't read any Anthony Trollope books at that point, so I can't compare, but I do remember them being a sweeping family saga.
The one with the baby? Lizzie and the Lost Baby! I NEED to read this! It looks so good! If you like quilting mysteries, seriously get the Earlene Fowler books--the Benni Harper mysteries. They're so good. The opening of the first one. So good. I missed our library book sale this weekend, I'm so bummed. Your Daphne DuMaurier book is so gorgeous. I think there's something wrong with me. I don't like Edith Wharton. I need to find some others by her and try again.
I was hoping you’d find another Bradbury! That book is technically a sequel to Dandelion Wine - it’s more stories about Green Town Illinois. Great Summer reads! Also, I love the Alan Bradley series! It’s one of my favorite mysteries.
Mitzi you sent me a comment that I had won a Christmas book and I sent you my address but I never received the book. I believe it was by Montgomery. Linda Wine @1064 Skokie Ridge Dr GLENCOE Illinois 60022. Thank you so much!
