Thank You Andrew! Throughout the whole day I was not able to fill my torch with the butane gas. The reason being is because in the afternoon that is when i bought the torch and gas. So I thought I knew what I was doing because I had the Torch facing up while I was filling it up with gas. So when I turn it on it does not flame. So i thought that the can was broken because I gave it some tries again. So i went to the store to buy another one and this time a more expensive one. Lol so when i got home it still did not work, so I looked up some videos on how to fill the torch. Most of the videos did not explain much and even sometimes boring. But when i stumbled across your video. I saw it completely, and Holy Sir you did good :D! You explained and was very clear on steps. You were not boring to hear either m8. And Sir, this video is underrated and deserves to have more views. Thank You.

Missing step: After turning torch upside down in the filling pose, but before placing butane bottle on the torch, compress the filling nozzle of the torch with the tip of a ballpoint pen. Making sure the torch is in the upside down (ready to be filled position). Push the torch filling nozzle in for one to two seconds. This will release any pressure that usually would prevent your refill from having success, and leaving your torch only half-way full. By adding this one often unknown, yet simple/safe, step to the filling process you have guaranteed a successful torch fill.

Step by step, no extraneous chatter, everything clearly explained and shown, and safety measures emphasized. Can't get any better than that!

As commented previously, this is the clearest explanation that I have found on how to fill a butane torch. NOW I know why mine was "sputtering" after I refilled it! Thank you.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly. I just bought my first butane torch and the instructions that came with it say "Stop refilling when the gas starts to overflow. Do not overfill." I was so confused by that and needed a video just like this one.

HI Andrew I used these torches for a while, but I got so fed up of them running out of gas in the middle of soldering a piece of work, therefor the flame not being hot enough to melt the solder, I saved like hell and invested in the ez or orca torch well worth the money, great stuff again keep em coming .

Not sure if he knows this but you are supposed to take a pen and press on the valve to release the pressure holding the torch upside down even if your torch is empty it still has alot of pressure inside and can stop your torch from filling up all the way.

Hiya Andrew, Good video, thank you. In addition, if I may. When you can't seem to get any gas in, or even just less gas, you have Too much air in the tank. Turn it upside down, insert a thin point into the filling orifice, and allow the gas and air to splutter out. A solder pick works for me. When the tank is empty, fill as described. No need to keep buying new torches. MAKE SURE THE VALVE IS NOT POINTED AT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO NAKED FLAMES AROUND OR INCANDESTANT HEAT SOURCE. STAY SAFE, Steve...

hey Andrew buddy, just wanted to say, i had to throw away two real expencive torches because of that bull brand butane. it contains alot of impuritys and leave a sluggy brown mess in your torch after not so long of useing it in them, i would reframe from useing that mate, i have had no problem with rolsons tho ;o), lol like poking torches 1:49,

Thanks had this butane torch over a year now never knew how to fill or even if it is full when I bought it all this time it was as easy as refilling a lighter the ones I already own and refill with this gas!

I figured that the “adapters” are there to use for pressing the air out from the lighter before filling it up with gas. The truth is that we can never find anything handy enough for this purpose. A needle is to thin and there is no need to stick it so often into the tiny hole. If we use good quality gas the hole does not get stuck much. Pen not good too, also a pencil, wooden stick, toothpick, all can leave pieces of wood inside. So the plastic “adapter” work best. At the beginning I also thought it is there to fit different lighters gas entrance but they never fit any. Only the biggest one, the one that’s easy to remove fits there where it’s needed so the gas doesn’t escape during filling the lighter up. Because honestly those “adapters” do not fit any lighter for filling it up with gas but they do fit perfectly as “device” used to take the air out. No need to even take them out. But it fits only the small lighters , traditional shaped. For the round ones, big ones, the adapter needs to be taken out and fixed on something, end of thin stick with glue or a bit of hot silicone. I figured it out just recently and only now these plastic thingies, attached to every cap of little gas bottle, make sense to me. 😅

As usual, great video :D However, something I just lear- I mean, my FRIEND just learned.... Some torches won't actually leak like you showed and CAN be over-filled. I don't know if my torch is just too worn or not, but I have an Iroda PT-500. Amazing handheld torch, but it is currently sputtering liquid butane and needs to be bled until it is no longer over-filled :p (Obviously do this outside or under an active fume exhaust). Let's just say, a 2 meter long sputtery flame is impressive but not exactly desirable, and probably not safe.

i went to the store like 2 days ago because my torch lighter ran out of fuel. i bought gas to refill it, not knoing it wasn’t butane. it was lighter fluid and didn’t read that it said it works for “wick” lighters. so do bics lighters use butane as well? and awesome vid bro !😤🔥🔥🔥

Hi Andrew ~ I bought this very torch today at Home Depot for my artwork ~ But they were out of butane. So a staff suggested I go to Shoppers Drug Mart. I bought 4 cans of butane for $9.99 ~ But how do I know it's the right product/brand for this particular torch?? Asking for a friend...🤔😳

Hi there Andrew, I have a question about torches. So I am currently just starting out on my silversmithing jewelry making journey and I have a small issue when it comes to torches......they scare the heck out of me lol. Im talking about the torches like Smith Little where you have to hook up to the tanks. My biggest fear is of tanks exploding (not sure how often it happens or if it does at all). I currently use small refillable butane torches with no issue but I notice I have a harder time getting solder to flow or my scrap silver to melt. I hope to eventually get over my fear so one day I can advance to using a Smith Little, but for now I was hoping you may have a suggestion on a torch that may help me out? In class we used a Bernzomatic torch (one you have to light with a lighter). I had no issues with that and was thinking I could get one for bigger projects or melting down scrap silver, and using some type of smaller torch for soldering smaller projects such as jump rings. Any advice would be fantastic!! Thank you so much for your time and have a great day.

Nice one but you didn't talk about how to empty pressurised air out, Hold torch upside down, push in centre tube with a match stick or something similar, wait till it stopes spluttering and hissing, fill as instructed.

The gas doesnt need to "settle" It needs to warm up to room temperature so, when released through the nozzle it gasifies! And doesn't spit out as fluid!!

If you spill the liquid gas don't worry about blowing yourself up; I spilled a fairly large puddle (inside my house in a small room) and lit the torch immediately after without anything happening. Not saying I would recommend it, in fact that was really stupid of me, but you're not going to flambe' yourself.
