Filling an Ag Bag with Corn Silage

This video shows us making progress and filling the ag bag. There's still corn in the field, so we will be needing a second bag which is a first for us! We got to use an International 986 to haul wagons which was another first. The International 1466 is running the Kelly Ryan Big Bagger, the Farmall 560 is still running chopper boxes, and the 1256 is running the New Holland 790 Chopper with 822 Corn Head. We had some heifers escape, and a new bull calf born.

I think I should clarify that my clip about working on Sunday, wasn't meant to be rude to the original commenter, I agree with what they said, I just wanted to clarify why we were working on Sunday, if it wasn't something that the church allowed I wouldn't do it. I do appreciate all your support, we have the best fans out there. Thank you all, and may God bless you!

We used to work a lot of Sundays on the farm, especially when my dad had another job off the farm. I don't think much of guys who will work every holiday and weekend just to get a big pay cheque to buy fancy toys they don't really need. You are working to provide for your family and when you're not extremely busy you take your Sundays off. No need to feel guilty about that in my opinion.

I always look forward to your videos and thanks for taking time to show us. Happy birthday to Justin. Don't pay attention to these so called church people that know nothing about farming, Farming is a seven day none stop job and work load . But harvest time is the same with all the other jobs that come along with that. One day out of the field can be a very bad outcome for the farm. So please folks have some respect for the farmers that work so hard .

Thanks for the video and talking about working on Sunday. I also sometimes struggle about it. We have a neighbor who doesn't work on Sunday. It's been a few times that he brings up a time that hay drying weather was perfect and he had 2 full days of baling ahead of him. He baled all day Saturday until the dew came. Rain was in the forecast for Monday morning. Sunday was a perfect day but he wasn't going to bale. Monday morning it started raining and was on and off for two weeks. He lost all that hay. Seems to me that he would have been better to bale then to stay bitter for all those years.

I'm a Catholic from West Central Mn grew up in town but bit by the dairy bug at 4 years old, made my dream come true for not near long enough, milked 80 cows in a stall barn loved every second of it, but between a tornado and the poor prices I unfortunately lost the farm and cows the fall of 2017, but watching your videos fill the hole a little bit, I got 4 kiddos and they were by my side all the time and nice seeing that at your place! Hey Alan another great chopping video! When we seal up a bag we always put about a 2 inch long slit in the end of the bag to keep it from gassing up and blowing the bag up. After 5 to seven days we tape it shut, the main thing is to make sure the gas is down. I have seen them blow wide open for other people before. Usually you come out in the morning to find a nice surprise. We've done quite a few bags over the years and never had one blow yet.
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 4 года назад
Wow! I've never heard of one blowing out. A dairy my brother worked on, made a lot of bags, they tried venting but had trouble with spoilage, I guess that's why I've never done it, but I'll definitely keep an eye on this one. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!

Never have I herd of a bag blowing up and the gas the ensiling process makes eventually goes away never slit the bag to vent it you’ll get the first 10 feet rotten
@stephenfonder7409
@stephenfonder7409 4 года назад
I have seen it happen to other farmers several times. The worst is probably oatlage. It usually ripes right at the stretch marks as this is the weakest point. Also there are other factors that can lead to spoiled feed at the end of the bag such as how soon the bag was sealed up after it's filled and the method used to seal it. We have had times where we have had to remove 6 or 8 loader buckets worth of moldy feed but I would much rather have this then a blown open bag. I have seen guys try to drape plastic over the top of the feed on a ripped bag, then tape the top and cover the bottom with dirt and let me tell you they had way more mold then 7 or 8 loader buckets. Most of the time we get no mold when venting.
