Chris Youlden was the best Savoy Brown singer. Hands down. I was in a small Michigan bar 30+ years ago watching a Savoy Brown show. Between sets I had a chance to chat with Kim Simmonds about those early days. He just smiled and laughed, saying he wished he could go back. Don't we all!

No the footage is not from Bill Graham Archives, it belongs to me. I took it with an 8 mm movie camera. I have footage from other shows at the Fillmore, but never got around to putting anything else up. Of course the movie I took did not have sound, so I tried to splice it together with music the best I could. pattym902

Saw them a few times at the Gilmore E. First 3 rd bill then on top. They played 2nd band to Fleetwood Mac. First saw them St Ogano's club. Only 3 people in audience, my best friend my mom who I dragged to see them so she wouldn't tell me to turn down my amp all the time. Kim with his red crushed velvet bell bottoms!

I will always be a Savoy Brown fan and still go to see the band live when ever possible. Catch a Kim SImmonds/Savoy Brown show while you still can. The band is awesome. It might have transformed over the years many times but the current line up is incredible.

I didn't record much back in the 60's. Luckily I found this old video I had taken unfortunately had no sound and I had to dub it in the best I could. Right around this time Savoy played at Ungano's, A rather small midtown manhattan club. It had no seats, The stage was maybe 8 inches off the floor, When it was time for the show the Band took the stage from a private room in the back, But Chris Youlden came right in thru the front door, With his fur coat, top hat, cigar and two 6 foot blondes, One on each arm. I cant remember seeing anyone making a better entrance into a show. And of course they put on a superb show.

Unfortunately, because he was a blues guitarists, he was often overlooked. Tony Steven's was an awesome bass player. Looking In was my favorite album. Sunday Night, Looking In and Take It Easy-all great tunes.

This show was from February 20/21, 1969. It was Chris Youlden's last Fillmore show with Savoy Brown. Savoy Brown was top bill. You are wrong. Lonesome Dave Peverett and Dave Walker were both fantastic vocalists. Actually Youlden left over money. That’s also why Peverett handles the vocals on “Louisiana Blues” on the Blue Matter album. Youlden sat out the live gig where L’Blues was recorded…Kim told me “he pulled a power play.” In other words Youlden wanted more money but obviously he overvalued his position in the band.

Great post. Missed this show but saw them a few times at the Fillmore after Youlden left the band. Kim and Lonesome Dave would rock "Leavin' Again". Fleetwood Mac would usually open for them. Saw Savoy last May, and Kim is still great.

Oh!! Big thanks for posting this..I'm a big fan of Chris Youlden and this is the only film of his Savoy Brown days I've ever seen, although I was told they did appear on British TOTP or Old Gey Whislte...cheers....

Saw Kim in October for the 25th time since the early 80's but I never got to see this lineup which was their best.

Patty if you ever get to talk with them, ask them if they will ever come down to New Orleans. I'd love to see them down here.

During their first US tour they played at the Golden Pheasant in W. Islip, Long Island . Members of The Nomads MC over ran the joint and SB took their instruments and fled . We ascertained from a roadie that the next night they would be at Leonie’s in Long Beach . Fortunately it was a great show !

I saw them at the Fillmore East in '69, loved Youlden and the show. The music here is obviously not matched to the film

The line " wouldn't it be a drag if we were all the same " should help people understand we can all be different with different ideas and still get along. I dont want to meet new people only to find they are exactly like me ..... get it 🤔

Just getting around to replying to this. I am from NJ lived so close to NYC. Went to every concert there. What memories. All for just a few Dollars a show with usually 3 fantastic bands. Now in Tennessee away from most of the music scene. Music not the same now as it was then. Praying for Kim Simmonds in the hospital.
