I always made that joke in my head as a kid when I watched that scene. It's worded so oddly that it makes the mom seem like she _also_ wanted a different mom, or that she wishes that Conrad had a different mom that isn't her.

I think that just defines early 2000s kids. If you haven’t at least watched two of those movies on repeat then you are probably a well balanced human being which is to say that is a frickin lie, you’re a friking unicorn which is to say an amazing swimmer and the last of your kind.

"It just feels so mean spirited..." That's the early 2000's for ya, they all have this weird fascination of making gross imagery or mean spirited characters

I feel like Eddie Murphy Cat could have worked and Robin Williams Cat? Sounds like perfect casting as well but this script? Toss it all out!

After all, Robin Williams pulled off playing the Genie from Alladan perfectly, and the Cat in the Hat radiates the same energy, so Robin would have been the perfect fit for a chaotic yet well meaning person who knows when things are serious and dangerous, yet he’s also someone who see’s people who are sad, and wants them to be happy, and so he adopts a silly side. This movie could have worked if they had changed just two things; first being changing Cat’s actor from Myers to Williams, and second being parts of the story to better fit the source material while still being it’s own take on it. Thus making a fun family movie while keeping the original moral of the story intact. I want to say The Lorax came the closest to this goal.

I have ADHD and lets just say, this movie triggers my fight or flight response.

The cat in the hat has elderitch god like powers and can manipulate the world around him, giving him an advantage. But the Grinch is Jim Carrey, which also gives him an advantage of being Jim Carrey

Mike Myers Cat is dionysian while Jim Carrey Grinch is apollonian. They exist as a dialectic, equal but opposing forces.

Throw in the Hipster onceler twink and have them all compete to see who is the most far removed from their respective source materials

I'd assume that have to be the case because I watched dozens and dozens of great movies as a kid and I distinctively remember not enjoying this movie. Better kids movies from around the same time, just off the top of my head: Road to El Dorado, Atlantis: the lost empire, treasure planet, the spy kids trilogy, monsters Inc, bugs life, toy story, and many more.

Edward Scissorhands definitely had a similar neighborhood look and color tone with this movie

Dr. Seuss died in 1991. His widow Audrey Geisel put a ban on live action Dr. Seuss movies. Audrey Geisel passed away in 2018.

People find the CGI for the Cat and the Things to be really bad. I at least find it easier to look at than the first Sonic design
