Lilliath No, some berries are VERY poisonous. Berries are basically plant fetuses - hence why they contain seeds. Not all plants find the idea of being eaten appealing (though some like it a LOT, case in point the tomato), while some plants like the idea of killing animals for nutrients (case in point, the Venus Fly Trap). Poisonous berries have the advantage of killing the thing that eats them - either for defense, or to create free compost for the seeds to grow in. And the worst part? There are not a lot of visual indicators for whether or not a berry is poisonous, hence why some survival experts recommend avoiding wild berries.

Lilliath Because there are *few* signs, not *no* signs. IF you know what to look for, you can eat wild berries. But a layperson isn't likely to know such. It's good survival sense to know which are poisonous and which aren't.

I don't buy the suicide theory. Other than bulking up on food before the games, Foxface is shown to have knowledge of the plants to eat, avoiding the cornucopia, and focused on avoiding fightings and focusing instead on surviving, scavenging, and sabotage. She made it to fourth place. It makes no sense to commit suicide once you've statistically got a 25% chance to win. Her survival skills may have been lacking, leaving her weakened and starving, but at that point there's no reason to quit. Worst case scenario you keep poison berries on your person, so if you find yourself in a situation where a brutal death is likely, you can instead give yourself a less violent death. I assume she simply was hungry and desperate and assumed they wouldn't be stupid enough to collect poisonous berries.

LordIce That's some weak ass poison, if a little stomach dilution can render it harmless. A poison that weak would probably result in a long and painful death without stomach dilution.. less painful to just strangulate yourself with a belt or hug a career.

@@niconico9358 He was participating in 50th Hunger Games and only because of that, the arena had a special, unique rules: it was beautiful, but everything was deadly - flowers, squirrels, food and more. So yeah, pretty much a one time thing.

In the 50th games he won by using the barrier to reflect an axe.

Not all was poisonous, but everything that looked like safe to eat was poisoned, rain was safe to drink and there was something safe to eat if i remember right

Age does matter. A 12 or 13 year old isn’t going to have the strength or the size to compete with full-grown teenagers, generally. And they will have significantly less training with weapons or with general knowledge of plants or survival. Not to mention the fact that such young tributes are going to find it almost impossible to get any sponsors or allies in the arena because they have such a small chance of winning. Most other tributes and sponsors will consider them to be death fodder before they even have the chance to step foot in the arena. That’s not even mentioning the theoretical young districts from places like District 11 or 12, both places where prospective tributes aren’t really taught to hunt or fight and usually don’t even know much about vegetation either. They’re basically dead on-arrival unless they can hide the entire time, get lucky and use something like poison or traps to stay alive, and avoid being killed by hazards from the Capitol. Even at that, you’d still have to fight the last tribute to the death, who would likely be much bigger than you and much more experienced with weapons. Your chances of winning are still abysmal, because they’ll be even more on their guard and you’re their only target left.

But in fact the youngest victor, and he majorly won because not only he's a good fighter, but he also very good looking that he able to get so many sponsors to support him, he even manage to get a trident as a sponsor and it was mention as one of the most expensive item to ever sent into the arena. So yeah not only there's no 12 yo tribute to ever win the game, but also the youngest victor which is 14 yo mainly won it because of sponsorships.

Yeah his worst two videos as you can't use statistics for the Hunger Games; the writer couldn't be arsed to write the outcome for all 75 games. And as the 75th game only had victors that means out of the 30 know Victor's there's obviously going to be a disapropiate amount of non career Victor's. So to create startegys based on statistics when they obviously don't paint the full picture is idiotic.

@@dropssky yeah, i'd lowkey love to know where he got his information from, because according to everything we are told in the books that whole part of the video is just straight up wrong? district has a heavy influence, and age makes it statistically impossible for like 40% of the possible tribute pool? (it wouldn't be 40% of the actual tributes since the older tributes are more common, in the career/wealthier districts bc they have volunteers, and in the poorer district because of the vote accumulation from the tesserae)

And I can imagine because of their industries, districts 7, 11 (and possibly 10 and 3) would have an advantage as well but to a lesser degree. Also, it took 64 years for a 14 year old (Finnick) to win the games which is still is a full 2 years ahead of the earliest age you can be reaped at 12 shows you age is absolutely important as well as what district you're from

It sounds like a good idea to say for the hunger aspect, but when you look at the statics of the winners, unless you play it really smart or are lucky with getting rid of the careers food they’d be way ahead of you

Most tributes carry with them some very specific skills that they learned from their district. So Rue knows how to treat Tracker Jacker bites because she comes from district eleven where there are a lot of Tracker Jacker nests- but Katniss knows how to hunt and trap things because she comes from district twelve where the rules are more lax. So ideally you should team up with someone from a district that is totally different to yours. So say, if you're from an industrial district like district three you should form an alliance with someone from a more rural district such as district eleven. They will have skills with plants and wilderness survival that you will not posess- but you will have a wider knowledge of the technological side of the games. Even districts like district eight (the textiles district) will have experience with force-fields and weaponry that a person from district ten (the livestock district) who will have a wider knowledge of plants- even if that isn't their job.

+Cheeseanonioncrisps There's also Johanna Mason, who won because she underplayed her strength and when all of the other tributes underestimated and forgot her she got an axe and slashed them all to death. She's also the only tribute whose winning got described as 'murder' due to the nature of her surprise attack.
