Ho ho ho! The holidays are here! And you know what that means… Christmas movies! But I’m actually going to but a pause on that excitement for one moment because there’s something I want to talk about. Growing up, I watched tons of animated holiday films. One in particular stuck with me though: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Sure the film was charming, but that wasn’t the reason why it stuck with me… It’s because there was a hidden connection between the characters that wasn’t explained. Santa has a missing son and I’m going to prove it!

A long time ago things went into the Public Domain a looooot sooner. Then Disney lobbied and got the period of private ownership lengthened by way too much. I think it used to be seven years, then it became the life of the creator, then it got expanded further. Especially once corporations got considered people in their own right. And frankly, it's utterly stupid. While fanfic is usually horrible, there's some serious gems out there that could totally make good writers famous if they could legally publish what they write and consistently get gigs expanding on works that already exist.

Something I thought of, if Cornelius was a real prospector he would have come much better prepared than that half baked sled he had. Perhaps he and his mom were believed to be dead. I mean, Mrs. Claus looks different between both movies, so it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think Jessica died and Chris/Santa remarried.

As far as the naughty/nice present/coal thing, Santa could have simply never questioned the possibility of his son being alive, and something personal would have to happen to change his mind. For example, Cornelious could have the Clause tag, but have it hidden because it's precious to him. Heck, the name he has now simply could be different from the name given to him at birth.

Christmas for me this year of being 12 and having a phone went like this • Getting annoyed that my mom got a schedule for Christmas movie • Worry about being forced to go Christmas shopping • Eating both homemade and store-bought cookies • Still hating my sister, even during Christmas • Keeping my 3 year old sister away from our elf • Considering renaming our elf (her name’s Princess) • Opening presents but still wanting to use my phone because I’m the worst! Fun fact: In countries where portuguese is spoken, Santa's localized name has "Dad" or "Father" in his name. For example, in Portugal he's called "Pai Natal" which means literally "Father Christmas". Thought it would be fitting for the video

I'm always kind of floored by how plausible these theories are. I always start thinking "yeah okay fat chance. But hey, Matpat's entertaining, let's watch" and end thinking "that is without a shadow of a doubt the way the authors intended."

I would suggest doing some research yourself, or trying to think of ways that the theory could be disproved. He is routinely wrong. That's why the channel is called " Film _Theory_ ", not " Film _Facts_ ". It's also the reason his tag line is "But that's just a theory!". Because he can never be entirely sure. He is nearly always piecing small smidgens of lore that might not even be there. The human mind has a tendency to see patterns where there are none. Not to say he isn't at least decent at this, he is. It's just that he can sometimes (re: most of the time) stretch information too far, past the point of it being reasonable.

NissaAnimist awww. That is actually kinda sweet. I feel like once people find out that santa, the Easter bunny, and all that are not real, they lose a little bit of their happiness, and it can never be replaced.

MatDaCat If Cornelius got lost as a child, Santa may not have recognized him as a grown up. But then again, you’d think Santa would’ve connected the dots. “Hey this kid looks just like me when I was his age, and I lost a kid a while ago.” 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

All the more reason why I think Santa believed he was dead: no reason to look. If Cornelius has something that directly connected him to Santa (for example, the Claus tag), then maybe he'd have reason to believe they were related.

Honestly, since I've been studying Irish culture on Christmas, I think Santa should give bad kids terrible movies and watch them for the 12 days of Christmas nonstop
