Recently I’ve been travelling across the most beautiful islands in the Pacific (Fiji, Nieu, Tonga, Vanuatu, Samoa, Cook Islands and more) filming a new Documentary using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro And new Blackmagic 6K Cinema Camera Full Frame, in this video I’m going to break down the process of shooting an international travel Documentary, the gear we used, the process of filming with heaps of examples BTS footage and a complete breakdown of the filmmaking process to get the most cinematic images possible. Beautiful images of a beautiful pair of islands and people that are of a different nature than us go go go people are. Make me want to go to Bora Bora again. Came back completely relaxed. Good work giving a impression of what is to follow on the Documentary mate👍!

Thanks for this great BTS of making a documentary. I too love the look of my BMPCC 6k Pro and 4K but mostly only use them in the studio. FX30 and ZV-e10's are my second unit and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is my favourite vloging camera. I even use it for interviews sometimes as it's so small that the talent doesn't get intimidated by the size. They even seem to like looking strait into the lens as it has a kinda ET feel to it... anyway, I love your content... keep it up.

Amazing cameras both inside and out of the studio. But not ideal for convenience. A lot of people enjoying the Pocket 3 too. Might have to check it out.

Really great overview here and some fantastic imagery. Going from pocket 4k to fx30 I still miss the 4k's image sometimes. Really like the reasoning in what lights to bring and think you made the right call and still got some great interviews.

Great vid! May I recommend for doc work and certain gimbal shots, get the Pdmovie Live Air 3 Smart LiDAR. Super easy to setup and with a single person in shot, you have perfect autofocus with any lens on the BMPCC FF.

The trouble is that for doco you need a matte box, with the PD you end up having the lidar miss focus due to the matte box stealing focus

Thank you for the insight, that's always so interesting and educational to see and possibly learn new things! I have an additional question if you don't mind - how did you copy all the footage to the SSDs, just manually or using some kind of solution like Red Giant Offload or similar? I have always done it manually but then again I have never managed several cameras daily, mostly a single camera with an occasional drone or action cam here and there. So what's your workflow on that part?

No program, just manual Transfer to each SSD off my laptop and then manually scrub clips and confirm same data sizes exist with each copy. The old fashioned time consuming way 😄

I want to know what storage scheme you chose for BMPCC6k, how much compression ratio and how long it took. Is NVMe feasible? I heard it was incompatible.

I use internal Cf Express B 1TB card and had a backup 256gb card, just in case I filmed more than 1TB in a day (which I didn't) I was using the 12-1 compression constant bitrate, 6048x3200 aspect ratio. I haven't tried shooting with an external SSD as I find CF express to be affordable enough not to need to.
