I give honest but always respectful feedback and would never trash talk or hate on any group/artist/filmmaker/song/etc., if my comments come off like I am, that is not my intention. This is all for fun and education's sake so please don't take it too seriously. 😊

Thank you for your reactions. Taemin said he liked the way Key standing on the phonebox (or whatever) and Key said it was hard or painful to stand balancing like that. It was a big deal for Minho to dye his hair (red) and I believe they said the items were actually hanging abd placed by staff in that red room.

The album, "The Story of Light" pays homage to Jonghyun. It was released just a few months after Jonghyun's death. It was divided into 3 parts and each of the three title songs were about their feelings for Jonghyun: "Good Evening", "I Want You", and "Our Page". "I Want You" sounds very upbeat and cheerful, but it's camouflage for the sad lyrics underneath. "Our Page" was written by all four members, is beautiful, meaningful, and reduces you to tears, especially if you watch the MV. The collective album is a masterpiece and even includes the song, "Lock You Down" with Jonghyun's voice that was pre-recorded. I hope you will react to the other two songs from this trilogy. It would be best if you read the lyrics just prior to watching the those videos as well so you understand the imagery/symbolism, or to pair your reactions with the lyric videos first and then watch the MVs. Jonghyun's favorite book was "The Little Prince". The anime fox is the character within that book and represents many things, especially Jonghyun. This theme is repeated in Taemin's T1001101 Concert of last year with the intro VCR "Identity", in which Taemin portrays the "Little Prince" of the same story ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IQRRkAmi6Kw.html ). The movie-like shadow of the man behind Onew is Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of The Little Prince). Milinda Wilson, another SHAWOL (SHINee World fan), has a very in-depth, well researched explanation of all of this in other reaction comments. As I don't have permission to copy/paste it here, I hope she will see your reaction and elucidate. In any case, I will also try to provide an explanation of some of the things I see here, although it won't be as good as M. Wilson's. The glaring flashes at the beginning (with Key) and all the cameras pointing at the members signify the intense scrutiny the remaining members were under right after the tragedy. They were not allowed to grieve properly, as all the papers and media wanted access to them to ask them about Jonghyun's death. However, SHINee just wanted to be treated normally and left alone to grieve. The video is bathed in aqua lighting in many scenes because pearl aqua is SHINee's signature color. The whole point of the video is to honor Jonghyun and show the other members' stages of grief, chiefly shock and sadness in the beginning with Onew looking at the anime fox (Jonghyun) longingly; anger when Key smashes the piano. Taemin (who plays piano beautifully) walking on the piano keys because he can't bring himself to play due to grief. The closeup of Onew's hands give the feeling of him being isolated from the others. Onew had been falsely accused of sexual harassment just prior to Jonghyun's death and had withdrawn from many of SHINee's activities so as not to distract or create fodder for the media for a while. He had just started to get back to regular activities with SHINee, as he had been cleared of all accusations, when all this happened. As the leader of SHINee, Onew felt a lot of responsibility and guilt (unfortunately and unnecessarily, as none of it was his fault) over it. He said that for the longest time he didn't feel he had the right to cry to express his grief. The choreo in the beginning is chaotic rather disjointed to demonstrate how they are trying to resolve the struggle to adapt to having only four members together rather than five (they had all been together for 11 years at that point and are extremely close). Under the plastic - suffocating under the weight of the relentless press and feelings of heartbreak, loss. Acceptance comes in the symbolism of looking into the well and seeing Jonghyun's shadow. He is still with them in spirit, and they can catch glimpses of him in their music - especially through the many songs Jonghyun wrote for them. Finally, Key looks back into the forest where the fox dwells, as if to say goodbye, and then, with a very slight grin, as if to say everything is going to be okay, he runs to catch up with the others, as they move on to continue the dream of all five of them, carrying Jonghyun in their hearts and remaining always 5 = 5HINee. You can see at the end, the choreo changes, and the four of them are now dancing evenly spaced, in perfect synchronicity as before when it was all 5 of them together. Then they are all running together happily, smiling in the forest. They have passed through the worst part of their grief and are ready to move on, but always with Jonghyun's spirit (depicted as the shadow in the well again) with them. Thank you for this reaction and I hope you continue to react to their vast discography, as well as the solo stuff from each of them.

To understand SHINee's "Good Evening" MV what you need to know is that it had only been about 6 months when this MV came out since Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist, died -- he died Dec. 18, 2017 -- and this song and MV is all about how SHINee and their fans have been grieving and are finally ready to begin to heal and come out of the darkness into the light. The album is called The Story of Light and it's all about finding the light out of the darkness, etc. It's about how the members are learning to continue on without Jonghyun and find happiness and light in a situation that will forever be difficult. May 25, 2018, when this MV was released, was SHINee's 10th anniversary so this was also important because it was a comeback to commemorate their 10 years as a group. The choreography for "Good Evening" is very deliberate. The reason the choreography is like that is because it depicts them going through the grieving process and it tells the story of all the emotions they went through and how, now at the end, they have made the choice to continue on as a group and keep on running, etc. The dance is all choreographed, but SHINee are just so good that they make it look like its freestyle. :D The choreography is really complex and beautiful and really fits the song well. It becomes clearer once you see it in its entirety and start to understand the story behind it all. You really should check out SHINee's dance practice video for "Good Evening" to see the full choreography. Fun fact: the choreographer for SHINee's "Good Evening" was the choreographer who was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, as well as several of Taemin's other songs, and also collaborated with several other choreographers on Taemin's "Criminal" MV. She is a famous Japanese choreographer who has known Taemin for years, so it was really special she was able to work on this project because she got to be a part of SHINee's healing process. In the MV, not only is the extra shadow that appears when they look into the tunnel/well at the end speculated to be Jonghyun's shadow, but the fox is thought to also represent him. Onew intensely stares into the eyes of the fox, almost as if he is communicating with the fox through his thoughts, and, to me, it's as if he is sharing a moment with Jonghyun. There is a fox in the story "The Little Prince" and "The Little Prince' was one of Jonghyun's favorite stories. The image of the man behind them is the author of the book "The Little Prince." Plus, a fox often represents the afterlife and the spirit of someone who has passed on reincarnated in many cultures. Also in the beginning you may notice an empty chair. An empty chair is often used to represent the spirit of someone who has passed on as well. But that's just a small portion of the hidden messages within this MV. If you really delve in deep you will discover that the whole MV can be connected to SHINee forever being 5 members and them including Jonghyun in all that they do. There are 5 trees at the end which could represent the fact that, as Onew has said, even though you may only see 4 members on stage, SHINee will forever be a group of 5. They are in a room full of cameras and their images are being projected on the TV screens, which I see as representing the fact that because SHINee is living in the public eye they can never escape from always being watched by the public. Which doesn't allow them the private space to really grieve and to express themselves privately and they are always being judged (both the members in their grieving process and what Jonghyun had to go through and what ultimately led him to feeling the way he did, etc.) This MV used a lot of green and aqua blue light to depict the cool and somber feel of the story, but it also was used because, as you know, aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color and it was used to represent Jonghyun's presence all around them and the support and solidarity they felt with their fans, Shawols. The story in the MV is showing the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) the members went through and how they have now at the end of the MV started to find their way out of it and have made the choice to continue to keep on running and continue on as a group, etc. But I could go on and on ... every part of this MV has a deeper message and meaning, you just have to open yourself up to the fact that everything in this MV has multiple meanings and purposes. You see Minho with those oranges, which is really just a giant pile of orange peels, because this part is supposed to depict how he is blindly just going through life, not even able to process what is happening around him. He is not even looking at the peels. It is like his body and mind is on autopilot. If you notice none of the members ever make eye contact with the camera the entire MV and even in their live performances of the song, you will never see them look at the camera. This was done deliberately as well because they wanted to show how in their grief they were blind to everything that was going on around them and they were closed off to the world and didn't care what was happening outside of themselves even though the world was watching their every move. The part where Key smashes the piano is only one example of of how SHINee shows how they felt for a while after Jonghyun died -- they were angry at everything, including music, and in a way they were blaming "music" and their careers for what happened and in the MV they were taking their anger out on the piano, etc. The plastic sheet and them flailing under water is supposed to represent how they felt suffocated in their grief and how grieving while in the public eye made them feel trapped at times, etc. Every scene, every image, every movement in their dance, every look, every moment they stand still or look blankly, etc. is very deliberate and is there for a reason. This comeback is part of a three part release celebrating SHINee's 10th anniversary. So they released 3 mini albums with 5 songs each in their The Story of Light trilogy and they had 3 comebacks each 2 weeks apart to showcase their lead track on each of their albums. "Good Evening" and "All Day All Night" were their comeback tracks from Episode 1, " I Want You" and "Who Waits for Love" were their comebacks from Episode 2 and Episode 3 was "Our Page" and "Tonight". Their comeback lasted 6 weeks to represent the fact that it was SHINee's 6th "full length" album. We were so spoiled this comeback; it felt so nice to see them doing what they love again. At the end of the six weeks they released a special final MV to celebrate their anniversary and all they have been through over the past 10 years with their song "Countless." "Countless" was an epilogue track that was added to their repackaged Story of Light album. FYI: Make sure if you react to "Our Page" that you also pair that reaction with the official lyric video. Every word of "Our Page" was wrote by the members and it's all about Jonghyun. If you know what the lyrics are about it will help you to understand the story being told in the MV. Before this comeback SHINee had just come off their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) world tour and the members were doing solo activities as they worked on what was going to be an epic 10th anniversary comeback. With Jonghyun's passing, that set them back a few months because they were grieving. It also took time to figure out how they were supposed to function without Jonghyun. But you also should know that, actually, SHINee never really stopped working. Two months after Jonghyun died SHINee held their SHINee World -- The Best from Now On Concert in Japan and they pretty much were working nonstop since then until their enlistment. That concert had originally been planned as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and it had already been sold out. So SHINee felt obligated to honor their fans and continue the concert despite everything, which meant some extra work, because they already had been planning everything with Jonghyun. So they had to quickly go back to the drawing board and figure out how to do it with only 4 members and still honor Jonghyun's memory. In SHINee's fan meeting/concert for their 10th anniversary the members all vowed that SHINee will always be 5 and that Jonghyun will always be involved in everything they do. And during the concert when they performed the choreo for some of their most iconic songs they intentionally left Jonghyun's spot open and only filled in for him when something just wouldn't work without someone in that position. I think we are always going to have reminders of him in all that SHINee does from now on, and that is the way it should be. He was loved and will never be forgotten, and when possible, should always be involved in things that have to do with SHINee. OT5 forever and ever. I think we can feel Jonghyun's presence and influence in this album and songs because a lot of what made SHINee's sound uniquely SHINee (and this album is no exception) was because of Jonghyun. He not only shaped SHINee's sound because he was the main vocal of the group, but he also wrote and composed around 40% of SHINee's songs, so he can be felt in everything they do. It wouldn't be SHINee if we didn't hear his influence shine through in their music, that is what makes SHINee's sound so unlike any other. I think from now on we will always be searching for the hidden messages and moments that represent Jonghyun in everything SHINee does.

With thier "Don't Call Me" comeback, SHINee are just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. You just discovered why SHINee still hold one of the top spots after more than 12 years in the industry. If you are impressed now, just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 12+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. This year will be SHINee's 13th anniversary. So SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than many other groups, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew just turned 31 in December.) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one with the hoodie -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique and best voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc. Key -- the one with the feather headpiece -- is our diva and fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. (It was Key that made sure that their brown outfits had accents of SHINee's fan color -- pearl aqua -- so that is why you see the aqua colored yarn woven into Key's shirt and why Onew's collar on his jacket is dyed aqua, etc.) SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment, so Key is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. Minho -- the one with the red hair -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is a top actor and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. He is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and his need to always win. And Taemin is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry, and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular solo artists in the industry and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances. Although Jonghyun wasn't in the MV -- because he passed away 3 years ago -- in order to get to know SHINee, you have to get to know him as well. He is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists, such as EXO's "Playboy", as well as songs for Taemin, IU and Lee HI, etc., as well as participated in several movie and drama OSTs. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. SM knew that if Jonghyun was involved in any way that the song would be a hit. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for this songwriting and composing skills. As the main vocalist, Jonghyun is the reason why Taemin is the amazing singer and performer that he is today. Jonghyun taught Taemin everything he knows and you can feel Jonghyun's influence everytime Taemin sings, especially when he's performing with SHINee. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans (SHINee World or Shawol for short) will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop". SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.

i can't listen to good evening without being so emotional. But it's also so cathartic and hopeful. It's really just a journey. I remember them saying that Good evening MV shows how the media and general public seem SHINee and then I Want You how they see SHINee themselves. That's why they are under the cameras and not free in begining of Good Evening. Then towards the end they release from that cage and are free. This is connected to I want you MV and there they show how SHINee see themselves. Playful and dork. This is very brief compared to another explanations, but it was told by them and I think it helps to understand some elements of those 2 MVs. The Story Of Light trilogy was really very thoughtful because the members were thinking how they'll continue their career and also it was their 10th year Anniversary album. Anyways thanks for your reaction!

@@helenas7948 yeah but I said that Jonghyun is represented in the well as the fifth shadow that comes up from the well rather than being cast down like the other four are. This was the first MV after Jonghyun’s death and they used the shadow and the fox to represent him, just like they used the fifth mic in the Our Page MV and a mic with a rose on it at their concert in Japan during their last song of the show. Am I missing something here, because from what I am seeing we’re saying the same thing lol

22:47 Wow. I think no one has noticed that smoke and that person wearing a gas mask. You're one of the rare few that has mentioned Taemin floating in the air. You made me think when you said you don't know how the video connected to the lyrics. This is my take on this: - Minho's _sick with all your trash_ lyric is visually represented by not only the rundown appearance of the set, but most especially by the floating furniture with the red lighting. - Key standing on some kind of sinking platform (can't really see if it's a car) in the middle of the sea might represent how the relationship already sank, it's over. That's why he's saying _you know you waste my time._ - Onew with the broken ladder represented how the connection he had with the other person is damaged and broken and he has zero inclination to fix it. - Taemin floating in the air speaks of isolation, of how far gone he already is from the relationship, unreachable. Thanks for the lovely reaction :)

nice take! i'd like to input some of my thoughts as well: - Key: I believe he's standing on the telephone booth (at the beginning of the MV) --> he wouldn't answer her call anymore, "there's no next time..." - Onew: might be an interpretation of Jacob's ladder / stairway to heaven from the Bibble (I think it's the book he's holding) --> it's now broken, meaning he realises their "heavenly love" is just a "foolish dream", a deception she made that he needs to get rid of.

Here's Part 2 regarding "Don't Call Me" which is actually a brand new genre that really doesn't have a name yet. It's a blending of hip-hop, R&B, and classical musical theater. Then I give you profiles of the members to help you get to know them. This MV is directly linked to the SM Universe Theory and the SHINee Universe (as confirmed by Taemin in their own reaction to their "Don't Call Me" MV at the 4:30 mark). It all started in 2012. Watch their intro VCR to their 2012 SWC II Concert: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EH5CEYErluo.html (very beginning to 4:32 mark). 2012 was the year that EXO formally debuted, and I believe was the beginning of SM Universe Theory. SHINee witnessed the destruction of EXO planet and then were "called", as Earth's guardians, to intercept the same meteor from destroying Earth. In their "Fake Reality" teaser for this MV, there are old photos/news photos of spaceships, and we see them being "called" on a phone again. They are all also doing bizarre things that aren't normal...like fishing in the living room. At the end of the teaser, they look up expectantly. Look at the stairs they climb up to be transported -- same as in Taemin's "IDEA" MV. Also, in this MV Taemin levitates (just like his SuperM Character trailer) and then he is in the forefront of the other members in front of a spiral mirror/thing and suddenly we travel through a tunnel (same as Kai in "Jopping") and are teleported to a partial replica of the train station in space, you can see the planets/stars in the background. So, the question becomes, when they say, "Don't Call Me" are they talking about saesangs, an ex, or are they saying we don't want to be called in to save the Earth again. Leave us alone; we're done! With SM, it's very important to take note of the visuals in the MV. There is symbolism everywhere and it's all connected. SHAWOLs (fandom) are also connected and represented as you see the SHINee World color, pearl aqua, again everywhere in the video, from the lighting in certain sections to their wardrobe where you see each member wearing an element of the color. THE MEMBERS: Onew (pronounced Oh-new) - wearing the dark hoodie & holding a book at the intro; had the unique voice you liked; AKA Old Man, Tofu; leader; main vocal and eldest; debuted at 18; now 32 (intl. age). Honey vocals, very rich and warm. Hits the high notes and has a record in Korea of holding the longest, sustained note at 40+ seconds. Songwriter; Actor; Soloist. On a whim, he wanted to try Opera and performed "Nessun Dorma" at one of their concerts --- KILLED IT! As a leader, Onew is very kind, gentle, & nurturing. Can be quite quiet at times, but is also quite the comedian when he gets going. He is the glue that holds the group together with his quiet support and encouragement. Indulgent father-figure to baby Taemin. Solo MV to check out: "Blue". Key - feathered headdress & starts the song in the phone booth, AKA All Knowing Master Key: lead rapper; lead vocal; dancer; debuted at 16; now 30 (intl age). Nasal tones and very versatile. Can really hit those high notes. Has a sing/rap style that flows nicely. After Taemin, Key is the next-best dancer of the group. Songwriter. Actor; Soloist. He is the SASSIEST of the group. No BS with him; tells it like it is and is quite the comedian. He and Minho are total opposites, but love each other even when they bicker endlessly...lol. Key is the fashionista of the group and the actual fashion designer for their stages. Key can also memorize choreos just by watching them once. Key is Taemin's surrogate 2nd Mom after Jonghyun's death and tries to keep Taemin under control....alas, Key is just as savage and uncontrollable...lol. Solo MVs to check out: "One of Those Nights", "I Wanna Be", "Forever Yours", "Cold". Minho - red hair & shirtless: main rapper, AKA Flaming Charisma; lead vocal; dancer; visual of the group; debuted at 16; now 30 (intl age). Deep, velvety voice, but can also sing higher as well. He has a slight lisp. Minho writes his own rap segements; songwriter; actor; One solo song. Minho is called "Flaming Charisma" because he is EXTREMELY competitive and good in just about all sports: soccer, basketball, relay racing, high-dive; high-jump, etc. He does not like to lose. Minho is a excellent actor and has been in the most dramas of all of them. Minho is also the biggest SHINee fan of all. Attends other SHINee members solo events. Key's bickering buddy and Taemin's big brother, very loving and supportive. Would give Taemin the moon if possible. Solo MV to check out: "Home". Taemin - You said you can recognize him; AKA Power Taem, Baby Cheese, Magic Hand: main dancer; lead vocal. Debuted at 14; now 27 (intl. age). Soft, extremely versatile voice - sensual and sexy. He can sing Metal just as easily as Rock, or a soft ballad. Can hit dem high notes. Songwriter; actor; plays the piano beautifully, most prolific soloist of the group & tweaks choreo for the group. Couldn't sing at debut due to immature vocal cords and was tutored by Onew & Jonghyun, two of the best vocalists in Kpop. Started learning how to dance at 10, auditioned with SM at 11/12, debuted with them as main dancer at 14. One of the very best dancers in Kpop & legendary for same, as well as vocal abilities; a true performance artist unlike any other (not just my opinion). Many idols cite him as their inspiration for becoming an idol. First-ever SM male soloist from an active boy group in 2014 at the age of 21. First-ever idol to debut four different times within three different generations of Kpop. Currently an active soloist, member of SHINee, and member of SuperM - very busy guy. Taemin is the maknae (youngest) of the group and has been raised with SHINee. He's a interesting mix of all of them and has absorbed their collective talents like a sponge! Taemin is a chameleon and changes his style, voice, attitude according to which group he's with or acting as a soloist. He's a MONSTER on stage and his charisma is mesmerizing. Piercing eyes and stare. He is extremely intelligent, deep, and thoughtful. Very humble guy who is a work-a-holic, dedicated, and will dance 17-hours straight when necessary until he meets his standard of perfection, described as being like tofu with a core of iron. Also takes no bs and can be quite savage when necessary. Gets what he wants whether from his SHINee hyungs or SM. Spoiled rotten by his SHINee hyungs but also very loving towards them. He's my bias. Can you tell? Solo MVs to check out: "Criminal" and "IDEA" from his 2020 album, "Want", "Famous", "Move", "Danger" (his solo debut song), "Ace", "Thirsty", "Drip Drop", "Press Your Number", "Under My Skin", "Sayonara Hitori", "Flame of Love", etc................. Jonghyun: main vocal, dancer; AKA Bling, Bling. Debuted at 18. Very powerful, rich, most versatile voice, slightly nasal. This man was probably the best vocalist Kpop had ever heard, just phenomenal. High notes were no problem for him. He could also rap quite well and I think the 3rd best of the group (as they all can rap). Prolific songwriter (wrote over 40% of SHINee's songs, and songs for other artists. Could play several instruments (including being quite talented with the Kazoo); musical genius; Book author. Jonghyun wore his heart on his sleeve and thought very deeply about things. He was most often the one who cried the easiest, especially during moving performances. He also cared deeply about people and social issues. Jonghyun and Taemin knew each other before meeting the other SHINee members, as they were trainees together before being assigned to the group. As such, elder JH took Taemin under his wing and became, as JH put it, "Taemin's 2nd. mother". He was very protective of Taemin. JH also designated himself as Taemin's fan club president, attended Taemin's concerts, even delaying his own concert by 2 days just so he could attend Taemin's 1st solo concert with Onew. He was so proud of Taemin's singing growth and hardwork. Sadly, we lost Jonghyun to his life-long battle with chronic depression in 2017. This was devastating to SHINee, but their bond helped them to pull it together and continue on to keep Jonghyun's dream of SHINee forever alive. As they say, SHINee will always be 5 = 5HINee. Now, JH is their guardian angel and with them in spirit. Solo MVs to check out: "Crazy", "Y Si Fuera Ella", "She Is", "Shinin", "Deja-Boo", "Lonely", "Before Our Spring", "End of a Day".

Looking at this song and video as a "career move", it was very daring. Simply put, it is a negative and angry song and not in itself attractive. But SHINee is returning to the stage in a very different world, now dominated by BTS and Black Pink and filled with an audience of non-Koreans who don't know SHINee. This song is shocking and gets attention. It raises the question of what will you find when you look further into their album, and look into them as people? The album though is strong in high quality music and production, but a wider array of emotions, which are more attractive. We will not know if it worked until later. From what I have seen though, I think it is in the process of working out well. SHINee has a rich past and a knowledgeable and mainly mature fandom (ie "old people", though there are still new comers, mainly thanks to Taemin's work while the group was on hold). One piece of "luck" was that IU had started her "Palette" online video show over the last year and early on, SHINee booked onto that and it turned out great for them. IU's show brings them into your home as warm, friendly and comfortable people, as well as humorous, talented and creative. It is not a complete introduction to their history, but you get a good idea of who they are now. It counteracts the coldness and anger in this song and video so newcomers won't be hesitant to look into them. It was risky, but I think it is working out well.

Yes, I can see why you would get EXO vibes from SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV. Because as with everything SM does, it is all connected. (I think Minho is supposed to remind you of Suho's X-EXO character in "Obsession.") If you really want to understand how all the stories are connected you first have to understand EXO and SuperM's storylines. SuperM was created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records in the U.S. This group features 7 of the best of the best when it comes to dance, vocals, rap and performance in Kpop. The members of SuperM are some of the absolute best from SM Entertainment's most popular groups. Baekhyun, who is one of the best vocalist in the industry and Kai, who is one of the top 2 dancers in the industry, are from EXO; Taemin is the other top dancer in the industry with one of the most well respected solo careers and he is a member of the legendary group SHINee; Taeyong is the leader of NCT and he is known for his dancing and rapping and Mark is the main rapper from NCT-127/NCT-U; and Ten is the main dancer and lead vocalist and Lucas is a rapper and visual of NCT-U/WayV. Everything SuperM does is connected to the story that began even before EXO debuted more than 8 years ago. I recommend, if you haven't already, you start with EXO's debut song "Mama" and you have to watch BOTH versions of their "Mama" MV -- the Korean (EXO-K) version and the Mandarin Chinese (EXO-M) version. It is said that the concept for SuperM is supposed to be like the Avengers, so, I see it as each of the members are a different kind of superhero that make up the larger "Avengers" group, just like how the Marvel Avenger members come together from all walks of life with all different abilities and powers, etc. to make up one big super group. I think the concept of the group all stems from EXO's concept and storyline. The members of EXO are all aliens from Planet Exo, and each of the members has a superpower that is specific to them. From day one, EXO's story has been that they were sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are thought to be caused by the Red Force. As a member of EXO, Baekhyun has the power to control light and Kai has the power of teleportation, so those powers are nothing new for them. (If you watch SuperM's debut MV for their song "Jopping" you will see them using their powers.) However, the concept of superpowers is new for all the other member of SuperM. (You will see the other SuperM member's special powers and abilities if you check out all of their teaser videos leading up to their release of "Jopping".) So I think because Kai and Baekhyun are part of the group, SuperM's storyline is tied to EXOs storyline. I think SuperM are supposed to be coming together to fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from corrupting and taking over the world, etc. And just like the Marvel Avengers members each have their own Superhero story, when they come together to form The Avengers they combine their story and concept and weave elements of each of the member's backstories into The Avengers storyline. I see SM Entertainment doing the same thing with SuperM. Also, just like how the Marvel Avengers come together to combine their strengths and powers to help fight Thanos, I see parallels with what SM is doing with SuperM's storyline. SuperM is taking the "best" members from each group and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight. Some fans who are into SM group theories have also speculated that NCT's dream concept and storyline connects to EXO's storyline as well, just like how many believe that Red Velvet is connected to EXO's storyline -- it is believed that SM's girl group Red Velvet, EXO's sister group, may be the Red Force. I think that SM may even have set it up so that at least all of their third generation groups -- and maybe now even 4th gen. groups with the introduction of aespa, SM's new girl group -- have storylines that connect, link together and intertwine. And although NCT and SHINee don't have a backstory that has anything to do with being Superheroes in the same way as EXO does, I find it interesting that NCT and WayV have songs called "Superhuman" and "Take Off" which both have sort of superhero type themes in their MVs, and one of Ten's solo songs was called "New Heroes". With what I know about SM, it wouldn't surprise me if this is something they have had in the works for a really long time and they probably have been creating ways to foreshadow things to come in SuperM that create connections between the members and their original groups. One thing SM has mastered since the creation of EXO, is how to tell a story and how to create a mystery that connects even the most minute of details together to build an epic adventure for fans. If the SuperM Avengers are coming together to help EXO stop the Red Force, I think the members who are part of SuperM are the liaisons who are helping to connect all the groups -- EXO, Taemin/SHINee, NCT and WayV -- together. For example, right after SuperM released "Jopping," WayV came out with "Moonwalk" and I think "Moonwalk" is a continuation of "Jopping's" storyline, and now I think WayV's "Turn Back Time" is also part of that story, as well as WayV's brand new "Kick Back" MV. To help explain, I think EXO are the ones who are members of SuperM and they are working with the other "Avengers" members to try and stop X-EXO. (X-EXO are EXO's alter ego clones) If you pay attention to what Kai and Baekhyun are wearing in "Jopping," their outfits are very similar to the all black outfits they are wearing in EXO's "Obsession " MV -- Kai even wears the same parachute backpack in both MVs -- which seems to indicate then that the version of Kai and Baekhyun in SuperM are the EXO members who are the good guys. Because in "Obsession" the members in all black are supposed to be EXO and the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup are the X-EXO members who have been created by the Red Force. So on that note, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines are being designed to connect stories and plots. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connection between the groups. And that includes EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly -- but not 100% sold on the idea -- even eventually SHINee, even though they are technically 2nd generation. Even though SHINee are second gen, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen. So, now I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connect SHINee to SuperM/EXO's storyline. Hence Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in someway to the Red Force and EXO's/SuperM storyline. As well as the connection between SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station. With what I know about SM, it is likely that these scenes were all designed to form connections between the groups and will eventually be used to connect their storylines. Fun fact: Because you know EXO, then you probably know how good of vocalists they are, well, the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The members of EXO and the members of SHINee are all around the same age and they were all part of the same trainee classes together, and, yet, SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO, so that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends. Suho, the leader of EXO, was actually originally training to debut as a member of SHINee, but he injured his knee right before SHINee was set to debut and had to sit out for a while, so SM decided to debut SHINee without him. Suho ended up having to wait 4 more years -- a total of 7 years as a trainee -- before he debuted . Minho and Suho are very close and they have a lot of similarities.
