With many months of wear and many years of experience on construction sites and horse farms, Troy Barmore put these jeans through the paces and had more than a few thoughts on how Filson is approaching business in the 21st century.

Sad to hear. I think your review is fair and I really appreciated it. I own the Filson Cruiser Mackinaw jacket, it's my favorite coat. I guess it's time for Filson to decide if it wants to stay quality and true to it's roots or just be a pretend brand and produce in random factories for profit.

Nope, not too harsh at all. Ridiculous that the stitching came apart after so little wear. And the fact that the source is not revealed.....that's a hard no for me. There is plenty of better quality denim out there for less that the price of these. Sadly, this is not the only product quality issues that has come up with Filson. Great review Troy.

Great honest review. I own one pair of Filson work pants, which I bought last year on sale for under $100. I wasn`t even aware that Filson had become so expensive and tries to move upmarket. The cloth is nice, but at no point did it occur to me that Filson wanted to position itself as a luxury company. The mediocre sewing and overall lack of attention to detail gave me the impression that they produce clothes without frills that will last, but at a price point that allows them to be worn in any condition and not make them a priced possession. Seeing price tags around $200 for the quality on offer is borderline ridiculous.

Thanks for the honest review. I’ll be taking a pass on these jeans. I’m a long time Filson customer..been wearing their clothing and accessories since mid 80’s. I have a few older Mackinaw pieces and a guide sweater..old school classics that are indestructible. I am still a customer but am not liking their insane prices for garments that just don’t match the price point. I did recently purchase a merino wool T shirt since I like the fit and styling.. especially the neckline. PSA.. if you’re looking for a really nice T shirt check out the LL Bean “Bean Built” line.. really nice and great price. Great job gents ..

Great, honest review! Thanks a lot. For the consumers the brand caters, Uniqlo denim should do the job for a 1/3 of the price. I can’t see myself paying $165 without knowing exactly what denim fabric I’m getting.

i heard somewhere that the non selvage blue denim is sourced from a large environmentally responsible outfit in Vietnam and the black denim is from Italy. i got the jacket in blue and the black jeans during filsons 30 percent off winter sale. i am happy with both so far but generally i'd prefer selvage denim usually.

Hey, man, me and my 33oz Old Blues have a good thing going. I’m not addicted to pain or trying to flex on other denim nerds. I like not being able to bend my knees and taking 5 minutes to pull up one leg to lace my boots. Definitely not a fussy hipster

I worked on ranches, and forestry, as well as carpentry and metal shops. Most of the time you're making from $20/hour or more if you're in a more skilled position. I do ironwork and welding in all conditions (which pays well) but most people on ranches wear $50 Cowboy Premium Wranglers. 14oz 100% cotton. They'll outlast these Filsons and cost 1/4 the price. Either those or Carrhart or Big Bill carpenter pants (also usually 14oz or 17oz) if I need double-layer fronts or knee pads and even those are rarely over $100. Never spend $200 on work pants kids, remember you also need about 4 pairs or more. As a welder, you really don't wanna roll your jeans up into cuffs -- trust me, you don't want 8010/7018 slag being trapped in there, that stuff burns. I love my slubby Japanese 21oz jeans, but I don't wear em to work.

I doubt Filson will call you again because honesty hurts. I grew up being told how great Filson was and I still have some of my Dad's old clothing. Unfortunately he was much smaller than me. I've known for a number of years that for me they're Goodwill/ Thrift but only sadly. Great job and thanks for the honesty.

I don't know if you're sentimental with these items, but used filson products can usually fetch some money on eBay. Better than giving them to goodwill who will make money off of your memories.

@@TheDagraner4576 my oldest son wears some of it. He's followed in that style. Maybe my youngest will also when he's older. You're right though. If nothing else I'd rather give them to someone that would cherish them for what they are. Most of the items are from the 80s and 90s, but a few are from the 60s and 70s. My Dad kept everything of quality. It's like he knew they'd go up in value.

I prefer Origin jeans. They are made in USA of USA components, are durable and extremely comfortable. Speaking of pocket bags, theirs are made of the same denim as the rest of the jeans and will likely never wear through, either. When they are on sale (like now), you can get two pairs for $99/ea. I own tons of Filson items and love what I have, but they are definitely not really marketed to the hardworking blue-collar worker - you only have to step into one of their stores (boutiques, really) to see that.

The Filson company is going to become a good case study of "classic americana" losing itself to the pursuit of profits. They're more popular than ever, which is good. They're however pricing themselves out of the everyday american market because they know they can. They're hurtling towards being Americas equivalent to japanese selvedge denim in terms of notoriety and price. Won't be long now until they're doing limited run "drops" to create artificial scarcity like viberg boots out of Canada does.

You should go back with that jeans. With that thread getting loose you still have your warranty if you bought it within 2 years. At least here in the Netherlands, it’s your right. But not if the jeans is already beat up and that it’s visible that you’ve worn the jeans to hell.

Another heritage company that has lost the plot. Few here will remember when Abercrombie was an actual outdoors company or when Eddie Bauer was really from the PNW. These Filson jeans are just crap and more than twice what they should cost. There are plenty of FAR better jeans at this price point and we can happily name names. I have Filson tin cloths from the 1980s that I purchased new. It's sad to see what has happened. In fact, Filson is no longer an interesting company.

Honestly these jeans look like shit. I mean, the color and cut might be okay, but other than the reinforced pocket bags, these seem like the quality of Wal-mart jeans or something, with a $180 markup due to the Filson name. So yeah, the market for these is idiots with too much money.
@aceymac
@aceymac Год назад
I don’t understand why you reviewed these jeans, are there that many people interested in them? If you want to dunk on Filson, dunk on them, they are clearly rudderless, similar to L.L. Bean two decades ago. If you really want to cover these jeans, why aren’t you talking about who they are marketing to and site sources, I am guessing they’re going after the older Harley Davidson buying crowd who have money, and want what they consider authenticity. I’ll eat my words if these are being marketed to or purchased by 25 to 35 year olds. With so many great unsung brands out there, and given your platform, I just don’t understand this review. Please understand, I have watched and respected the reviews you have done in the past, this is not a slam, it’s a legitimate question. Thanks
