In this video I completely disassemble my Playstation 3 Super Slim entirely in detail, & replace the thermal paste as well to get it back to near new condition. After a deep clean it all looks great again. It is a fiddly process but overall not too difficult. Thank you for watching! Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed! Thank you!

Thank you! This helped so much. Im not familiar with ps3 mechanics at all and unintentionally unscrewed the part that has the gears and winding mechanism for the sliding disc tray and eject button. It all came falling apart and I was worried i broke it. After watching your video (and watching the same part over and over haha), I got it back together and working. Thank you again!

For Thermal Paste cleaning, my secret is wipe it dry first. Then using Contact Cleaner, clean the remaining residue. It always leaves a mirror finish to the dies and removes all traces from the heatsink.

I got my hands on a Super Slim recently, that came with two very filthy controllers. I gave those a bath and cleaned them up nicely and I used your guide to dust off the console as well. I was expecting the worst, but upon removing the top cover I actually did find a pretty tidy PS3. :) Thanks for the video! 👍

Try some goo-gone for that bottom residue left by the sticker. Works well for me, let it sit on it for a few minutes and it will be easier to wipe it off after. My fav part about this video is how you detail clearly each screw removal. Often times in these tear down videos you can’t tell what types of screws come out of where and when trying to use these videos to match the screws back up during assembly this is helpful. Thanks!
@TheBygoneEra
@TheBygoneEra Год назад
I’ll give goo-gone a go! And thank you! It’s definitely tricky to show each piece and screw coming out without the video dragging on too much, but I try my best!

Wd40 has worked well for me in the past to get sticky residue off consoles from old stickers. I spray it on and let it soak for a few minutes and then try and rub it off even with ur finger nail and once u get it all off then just clean it off with sum IPA

little trick to remove that sticker residue. hit it with some WD40, let is soak and move it around a little. then wipe it away and then clean off the WD40 with some rubbing alcohol.

What thermal paste does it require? Does Arctic MX4 work or does it need to be a more viscous white type?

I’ve got to be honest, I’m not 100% sure if it requires a specific type of paste. The paste I used I think is intended for pc’s but it’s done the job and the PS3 is still working great

WD40 gets rid of glue from stickers. Soak the sticker and residue with WD40. On smooth surface, use razor blade (plastic or metal) to scrape it off. On a plastic textured surface, use a scrub brush. Then to get the oil off after, use dish soap and water, and then finally alcohol.

I tried cleaning and my ps3 for the first time using this guide and I got to the part were I'm about to lift off the top but I saw the yellow sticker about the radiation to lasers and freaked me out. Just wanted to k on if its safe to open the ps3 or did they mean don't look at it while it's on? Sorry I'm not so tech savvy
@TheBygoneEra

Hey yeah it’s perfectly safe when there is no power to the console. It’s only dangerous when you look straight into the powered up laser

Mine kept powering down randomly without warning or messages. Tried to take apart to see if it's dust...screws were impossible to remove, used a pair of pliers. It came apart, in a few pieces, no dust inside, i guess it was the mo0therboard...in the trash it goes lol.
@TheBygoneEra
@TheBygoneEra Месяц назад
PS3’s are prone to cold solder joints that can cause power issues like not turning on, or power cycling, so maybe that’s the issue? It’s more common on ps3 fats but still. I’ve fixed one before by simply using a heat gun over the processor chips for a while, then allowing to cool and reassemble. Could be something to try if it hasn’t already made its way to the bin haha
@Joe-ly3si
@Joe-ly3si Месяц назад
@@TheBygoneEra No idea, it worked fine, i didn't use it for about a year, and then this happened. The inside was clean as can be, no burn marks anywhere, no dust at all, solder looked pristine all over the motherboard and power supply. Bought a slim for 30$, working great so far!

@TheBygoneEra
@TheBygoneEra Год назад
How so? It’s often hard to make a disassembly video that covers everything but also isn’t an hour long, because no one would watch that. Ultimately due to this, some things get cut, however the things that get cut are usually very self explanatory things. So what did I miss?
@_Ganjatobi
@_Ganjatobi Год назад
Your video is actually one of the better ones I've seen. It just make me laugh that in nearly all videos, everyone cuts the part where the bottom shield plate is removed. This part should be talked about more, as so many people have damaged the RSX and several other chips in attempting to remove it.
