I dream of the day when I can edit all my videos on my iPad, but unfortunately we aren't even close yet. Here's a breakdown of some of the many reasons why FCPX can be very frustrating for the iPad.

You Scott you are a perfect example of learner’s inflexibility, have you tried using the app the way it was meant to be used. Did you try using it as a touchscreen device?

In this comment, you complain that he's not using it the way it was meant to be used. In a separate comment (where I had success "using it the way it was meant to be used") you tell me to just use my Mac instead. Stop trolling. Good gracious.

@@danfoxchannel i said you were flexing and I asked has he tried using the app as a touch screen device, because he wasn’t demonstrating it on his presentation. In my opinion both were valid.

If Apple wants the iPad to be used as a touchscreen device, and nothing else, then they wouldn’t develop and sell a $350 keyboard and trackpad setup. They designed this to be a computer replacement for many people, and it has the capability to do just that. Now they have to actually let it function that way.

Great video, TOTALLY feel your frustration. I bought the iPad Pro M4 13” and FCP is such a joke on the iPads. I know an update is coming within weeks but I don’t understand how Apple could release this program the way it is. Such fundamental flaws is very un-Apple like. Maybe it was a totally different team working on it with no editing experience. I have been using CapCut instead (as long as not doing advanced audio stuff) and the transitions, effects & more are much more advanced. Apple is falling way behind.

I agree. I really hope something new is announced and comes out with WWDC. I would be so happy to use FCPX more on the iPad. What's even more comical than the fact that the app is so bad is that there's a monthly fee associated with it haha. A basic version that has a monthly cost haha.

I bought an M1 iPad😊 because I thought I would have access to a lightweight, portable, touchscreen, Apple Pencil version of FCP. I was frustratingly mistaken, as you were. The fact that you mentioned a MacBook Air does all the things the MBP does, at 40% of the price of an ipad, well, I hope someone at apple watched this video.

While my editing skills (and needs) are certainly not as professional as yours, I had an entirely different experience on my M4 iPad with Final Cut. I did use my fingers and Apple Pencil. For me, I do a three camera shoot for our podcast interviews (Sony ZV-1's, all recording at 4k). This is an hour + video interview. On my iPad M4, I was able to do a Multicam clip with these three 4k clips and the hour long audio file from my RodeCaster Pro. Including color grading, adding a few visual elements on screen, intercutting all the cameras as each person speaks, adding our video bumper front/back of the video. While not as easily done as on my Mac, in terms of interface... For me... the iPad is a great option for editing when I'm traveling with just my iPad. Exporting was relatively quick and the file returned out great. Again, not as intense as your editing workflow but I am quite pleased with the ability to do this on the go.

Here’s the reality…you can finish an edit top to bottom on an iPad if you need to. I understand that entirely. I’m just such a fast editor on fcpx that editing on iPad is so slow right now in comparison so that’s my main angle in this video. In excited to see how it improves.

@@mosijahi3096 Maybe just let people work the way they want to work? I was expressing that I had a different experience. Does it bother you that people work differently (and with different devices) than you? Seems to. Live and let live. Oy.

This was super helpful! Iv been on the fence about iPad Pro v MacBook Pro as a RU-vidr and the more content I watch the more it’s leading me to a laptop. Unless! WWDC has some outstanding updates come Monday but I’m not holding my breath

U're absolutely right. FCPX on iPadOS is A TOY! Nothing more than a toy. Lumafusion is much more powerful, but actually NONE of video editing apps currently available on ALL mobile devices (iPad Pro and Android) are really useable by professionals. Maybe, MAYBE, only Davinci Resolve on iPad Pro is a much better choice. but I don't know if it's really used by professionals in theirs daily workflows.

So you’re legit never going to use your fingers to zoom? This is an iPad…I never saw you actually try to use the screen, only the keyboard. Do you think that there might be something’s done differently on a device that is made to be used with fingers vs a mouse pointer? We know this ain’t an exact port out to the desktop at. It cannot be one.
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 2 месяца назад
It should work differently with a keyboard attached. I don’t like editing with my fingers, you’re correct. It’s slow and I’m a fast editor so I’m pointing out that I want it to work like my computer with shortcuts.
@DaniAlexandria

If you are paying $300 for a keyboard and trackpad you should be able to zoom on the trackpad
@JJohnson313
@JJohnson313 2 месяца назад
@@DaniAlexandria but you can’t design a editing app around a keyboard someone might buy. You design it to work as if the accessories are not present. The device is a touch first device and Apple Pencil device second. I’m not sure why people are expecting and exact port out on totally different input devices.
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 2 месяца назад
@JJohnson313 because they also make the keyboard and they call the device pro. I would venture to say that the majority of 13” iPad users are using it like a computer and have the Magic Keyboard with it. I just would like them to have keyboard shortcuts like the Mac version does.
