The Rode Wireless Pro is AMAZING. Is this the best wireless microphone in 2024?

Rode did NOT send me this unit, and I paid for it with my own money. This is my honest review of why I think it's one of the most versatile and well-equipped wireless systems you can buy.
Rode Wireless Pro (TAX FREE): geni.us/Ac777a
My favorite features:
- 32-bit Float Internal Recording.
- Hassle-Free, Reliable Wireless Connectivity.
- Can be used as a stand-alone audio recorder and monitored wirelessly.
- Great sounding microphone built in.
- Charging Case

Looks like DJI took the Rode Wireless go and improved on it, then Rode took the DJI mics improved design and improved upon it again. Good example of how competition benefits the consumer. I'm still a big fan of my DJI's, but these look impressive too.

I agree, these are the best prosumer wireless mics. I sold my (3) DJI kits and now I have (2) Wireless Pro Systems. Two things they should add are these. #1- A way to to Jam Sync Timecode from an external device or at the very least, a way to Sync 2 or more receivers to each other. #2 - A Timecode Mode where Left channel outputs Transmitter 1, Right channel outputs Transmitter 2, and the USB can output or input Timecode. This would make these units infinitely better. I would hope these can be achieved via firmware.

Hi Scott, Unfortunately the built-in lav mics that came with the RODE distorted. I filmed a theatre show and the actor had a portion of the show where he was yelling and it distorted. Even the 32-bit float couldn't save the recording. After doing some research, it had to do with the low sound pressure level of the built-in lav mics that come with the RODE. I went with Sennheiser G4 instead using Sennheiser lav mic for the next show and i had no distortion. But thank you so much for the brilliant review! I enjoyed very much your video!

I so hate the design of the Rode Wireless stuff. The shiny plastic boxes. The DJI ones look and feel much better to me. Also the design of the receiver - I wish the RW one you could see from behind the camera without mounting it vertically somewhere or jerry-rigging. But the Rodes just sound so much better (also the locking connection), so I've gotta go with them every time, haha. If Rode would have just stolen DJI's design it would have been perfect.

The DR10L has been out for awhile. The Wireless Pro just came out weeks ago. The Rode Wireless Pro is far superior now to the DR10L.
@galinswigart
@galinswigart 10 месяцев назад
The DR10L was always a more reliable option than traditional wireless units because if they had interference during a ceremony, you were sunk. Now that these and the DJI mics have internal recording plus wireless to camera, these are the no brainer option to replace the older DR10Ls everyone used for a long time.

Is it worth plugging in the the Rode Wireless Pro receiver to the XLR input on my Ronin 4D (using the Rode XLR to 3.5mm adapter) OR should I just plug it in directly to the 3.5mm jack on the Ronin 4D? Do you think the XLR gives an advantage over the 3.5 if the source is 3.5?
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 7 месяцев назад
It all depends on how the 4D is setup. The cable itself and connection doesn’t matter, an XLR itself doesn’t sound any better than a 3.5mm. What does matter is whether or not the xlr is going to a preamp and the 3.5 is not. And then it depends on whether or not the pre amp is any good. You’d probably get a better sound quality recording directly on the rode wireless and using that file. The ronin 4D definitely won’t have a great sounding pre amp on it since it’s not actually an audio device.

@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 9 месяцев назад
Recording at 24fps in your camera, and 32 bit float have no significance with each other. 32 bit float is just the quality that the recorder is recording at it (raw). It will sync with video no problem. Not sure if that answers your question.

@luissinsin
@luissinsin 7 месяцев назад
When you record audio, you are recording either in 41khz, 48khz, or higher frequencies. I don't recall if the rode lets you choose 41khz, but I do know that I've been recording on mine at 48khz. This is in essence the equivalent to frames per second. Meaning the audio is being recorded at 48,000 samples per second. 1 second of video has 24 frames (as per your recording settings) and 1 second of audio has 48,000 samples (samples in audio are similar to what frames are in video). So it really doesn't matter. 1 second is 1 second. Now if you are using timecode, then you want to tell the Rode System that you will use timecode and you will want to set it to the same setting as your camera 24fps. or rather 23.978fps.

Thanks for the review Scott. What I am not understanding is how this helps a multi cam workflow. It does not seem like multiple rode pro systems can synchronize with each other and share timecode and audio information. So as long as you just need 2 mics and one camera it can be a good workflow. Past that it seems to have serious limitations.
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 10 месяцев назад
Multicam workflows are extremely easy to do now. One audio source to a camera, and all the other cameras just recording reference audio is very easy to sync up with no time code needed at all. We film Multicam productions on a daily basis with my company, and we never use time code, or anything. It’s pretty simple now.
@luissinsin
@luissinsin 7 месяцев назад
@@scottmckenna I've done many multicam shoots as well, and I've always done audio sync via waveform which works. But I've also done audio sync via timecode and it worked so much faster and better in my opinion. I'd love for Rode to be able to audio sync multiple receivers so that you can have more than just 2 mics with timecode. Also, it would be great if they had a timecode mode that allowed the receiver to output transmitter 1 on Left, Transmitter 2 on Right and Timecode via USB port. Currently, you can only output Transmitter 1 & 2 mixed into Left channel and timecode (audio beeps) on Right channel. Not as helpful.
