JustFYI, the lich King you saw, his Father was the good king of Humans pretty much. Arthas (The blue eyes evil guy in the video) was his Son, and he was a Paladin. When sickness befell his people and began turning them undead, he decided to purge anyone that was sick. Man, woman, or child. This lead him down an evil path which resulted in him giving up his soul for power, he lifted a cursed sword called Frostmourne and he became the monster you see in the video.

Yeah, it’s a weird choice. Either make them “all” the expansion trailers, and maybe the fully-realised cinematics like Old Soldier, or do the whole thing. It’s very weird to start with the end of the Siege of Orgrimmar and leave out things like the Wrath Gate which was the game’s first in-game cinematic.

There's quite a few cinematics and in-engine cutscenes that were NOT shown which would have explained things way better, including what you predicted; that Anduin would be forcibly "turned" by Sylvanas the same way she was by the Lich King, along with his subsequent rescue by the players and their mutual friends. The game is celebrating it's 19 year anniversary right now, and the franchise as a whole is a decade older than that, so yes, there's a LOT of stuff to see!

The most important cinematics for context that the collection you watched left out: (in chronological order) - Fall of the Lich King Ending - The Broken Shore cinematic (Horde version includes the most important scenes if you only watch one of them.) - A Found Memento - Old Soldier - Shadowlands pre-patch cinematic - Sylvanas' Choice - Kingsmourne - Anduin Raid Finale Then, before watching the new expansion trailer (war within), a list of other cinematics will make it make more sense: (in chronological order) - Warlords of Draenor Ending - Nighthold Finale - Tomb of Sargeras Trailer - Tomb of Sargeras Ending - The Battle for Argus - Rejection of the Gift - Argus the Unmaker Defeat Cinematic Then you watch "The War Within Expansion trailer" for last, which kind of ties the first and second list of cinematics together.

I agree with someone earlier. This is a bad cut of the cinematics and does miss quite a few. I'd follow the list above to get more context and watch the teaser for the next expansion, The War Within. It's quality, but the earlier ones to shame it is so life-like.
@ShazbotDesign
@ShazbotDesign 6 месяцев назад
@@Umbradomo Seriously, I was shocked when it didn't have the Lich King and Uther video which would have gave context to why he says the helmet is a prison. It also missed my favorite part of all of wow, when they killed Mannoroth. They didn't put the last half in. (My #1 & #2 favorite characters Thrall and Hellscream.} "No old friend, you freed us all" is engraved into my brain, I'll never forget it. There's a quest in TBC where it plays the audio from that scene if you don't click past it. I never clicked past it. I loved that scene; they fought a lot together in the previous Warcrafts. (Warcraft 1, 2, and 3). I keep hoping for a Warcraft 4 but I think that wont happen for awhile if at all. They are milking WoW and it might mess up the lore. A lot of the Starcraft 2 people will come over and want a game as in depth in strategy and balance at a very high skill cap as Starcraft 2. That's not easy, Starcraft 2 turned into what it is after a decade. It's been balanced and rebalanced so many times. It's a really hard game to master and an extremely harder challenge to compete. players get wrist problems because of how fast they have to play now in SC2. I think we'll get a Starcraft 3 before Warcraft 4 so that the crazy competitive SC2 players don't hate on Warcraft 4 when/if it comes out.

Warcraft was originally an RTS series. It started off with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. Then there was Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness with its expansion Beyond the Dark Portal and then Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne. The RTS spans a few decades of time in-universe, and World of Warcraft (the MMO) takes place a few years after the Frozen Throne.
@thomasd9827
@thomasd9827 7 месяцев назад
immediate context for Ace is that it gives you the background of Arthas fall from the light as a Paladin attempting to find a weapon that will turn back the horde. That weapon being Frostmourne which corrupts him. That's the background for Wrath of the Litch King
@WilBgames
@WilBgames 7 месяцев назад
And in-world the events of the 3 RTS games are handily referred to as the First War, the Second War, and the Third War. There's also now the Fourth War, which refers to the events of Battle for Azeroth.
@rance8319
@rance8319 7 месяцев назад
@@thomasd9827 Not exactly, Arthas finding Frostmourne was a result of chasing Mal'Ganis to Northrend after purging Strat and wanting to deal with the scourge invasion. To answer some of your questions 1) Yes each expansion continues the overall story of the game and expands the world 2) The panda's name is Chen Stormstout 3) This compilation cut out a lot of in-game cinematics and other things. You got a lot of the cool stuff but they left out a LOT. 4) Warbringers is part of a mini-series they do before each expansion starting with Mists of Pandaria. I have no idea why this person left so much out but I do recommend you give them a watch. Burdens of Shaohao, Lords of War, Harbingers, Warbringers, Afterlives. They're all extremely good. 5) It is a great time to get into WoW, Dragonflight is nearing it's end and next year they are beginning a new Trilogy storyline called the Worldsoul Saga while adding in a TON of player-friendly additions to help new players, solo players, alts etc. Not to mention you get access to WoW Classic as well where you can play the original vanilla game if you care to try it. WoW feels genuinely great again.

*Spoilers* but for the Wrath of the Lich king one, Arthas is the one in the armor shown, aka the Lich King, he was a Paladin before he was corrupted by the sword Frostmourne. he was the prince of a kingdom and after he was corrupted he went and killed his father, and that is who was talking during the video. there is more info but this is kinda the short and sweet of it.
@vagrantknights

Really interesting to see a completely blind reaction, especially to the Wrath of the Lich King trailer. You hit the nail on the head, the intent was to juxtapose what Arthas' (the Lich King) father told him when he was young with just how far he's fallen now. This was such an iconic moment in Warcraft and something new MMOs failed to realize. It's not enough to just build a fantasy MMO and expect players to flock to it, you need a rich, robust backstory and world that players can draw from and have had experience playing or reading about in some form or another. It's years of buildup to this point that made this moment so incredibly epic, and nothing has lived up to it since.

Warlords of Draenor was our version of Shadowbringers in that it went to an alternate universe. The Orc you see imprisoned in the in-game cinematic (Garrosh Hellscream) escaped and used a rogue Bronze dragon (basically the 'primary timeline guardians' of this series) to travel to the past. In the main timeline the Orc with the two handed axe (his father, Grommash Hellscream) drank the demon blood that Gul'dan the warlock offered him (the blood was from the demon he kills in the cinematic, you see it oozing out after). After the Orcs follow his lead and drink the demonic energy in the blood turns their skins green and sets their aggression level to 11, turning them into the first Orcish Horde that invades the world of the humans and other races in the first RTS game, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. Garrosh's intervention split this alternate universe off from the main timeline and it still resulted in the creation of an Orcish Horde, but not one controlled by demons. Instead, Garrosh used his knowledge of the weaponry of his modern era (those whirring ball things are called Iron Stars, basically primitive steam traction engines) to make the Iron Horde. He then imprisoned Gul'dan and used his demonic magic in the creation of a portal to the modern day world of Azeroth (the massive structure you see them building at the end, otherwise known as the Dark Portal) to try and invade and take revenge for his prior defeat and imprisonment. Warlords of Draenor was about us pushing the Iron Horde back through the portal and fighting them on their homeland, a place that was familiar to us (we'd already seen it's prime universe counterpart, Outland, in The Burning Crusade expansion) but also vastly different.

Pandaren were originaly a April Fool's joke in Warcraft 3 RoC, back in like 2002, then following year in 2003 Warcraft 3 TFT came out featuring Chen Stormstout (guy in Pandaren cinematic) in bonus RPG-style campaign that came with it. WoW had various references to them and such, even with playable race being planned and later scrapped in Burning Crusade (2007), until being released as playable race along Mist of Pandaria in like 2012. But Kung-Fu Panda 1 came out in like 2008 so I wouldn't be suprised if Blizzard looked at success of that, looked at Pandaren and smelled the money rolling in.

I skipped the more gameplay focused ones. Each patch has a trailer made for it, most are story focused. Most of the later expansions have 2D motion comic introductions to them. I also included cutscenes during the expansions as well that were important. Everything is in chronological order (I am 98% sure of that). I added up to Dragonflight (the current expansion) to avoid spoilers and because this expansion has a ton of storylines all running at the same time. I also didn't include any cinematics or trailers that you have seen so hopefully it all still makes sense. :D ru-vid.com/group/PLSqxUkv0GcTt42Ca7-FUbi1ZbuJBCPlEi&si=brXasNFvAujS6fiG And yes, @18:45 that was a disconnect sound from Windows. Great video fam, was really entertaining to see you react. Unfortunately the videos you watched were very disconnected and misses vital cinematics both ingame and animated to glue those story pieces together. There's still plenty you wouldn't know till you play the game ofc, but there were a lot of videos missing, such as the shadowlands cinematic about uther becoming soul split, etc.

WoW Lore is pretty complicated - some of it takes place in quests and cutscenes as you would expect coming from FFXIV. But much of it can be found in short stories and novels. The original Warcraft RTS games preceded WoW. A ton of important lore was established and not all of it has been retconned over the years.

damn, everytime i find one of u gamers react to wow for the first time, i just feel like going crazy with lore and races classes and ye it all, ive read most of the books and played the game since the beginning.. its an amazing lore, history, adventure, this game/lore/history have made me cry and laugh, over and over again, but ye its one long story, and the warcraft 1,2,3 before World of warcraft is also part of the story, tho its only some charecters that is like a part of the main plot, others like the charecter fighting the panda is just random more to show horde/alliance where the Panda himself is part of the main plot in that expansion

Man that was fun to watch your reaction to a game i spent so many years playing! I was geeking out with you the whole time! You actually got a lot of your guesses right throughout the video but there was just so much in between that was in the game that you missed and so it leaves incomplete stories. I do however feel like today it would be hard to go back and piece all those stories together because the expansions are still there, and you can play through them but you level so fast now, you don't really get to experience the story all that much. The way you play through them now is by kind of picking an expansion to play through and that's the one that you will level through till you are level enough for current expansion. So you don't get to see everything or even the totality of the expansion you level through. Anyway, great video it was much fun to go through that with you!

36:40 Warbringers is a separate type of animated-type series that Blizzard does to give more background info. to characters or events in the Warcraft universe. I personally really like them. That one may have been shown in game as a testing sample when Battle for Azeroth came out (which is when the big tree burned, home of the Night Elves), so that's why this guy may have included it.

For a game that's been around for almost 20 years, there is LOT to unpack in terms of lore, backstory, and how it's been developing so far. Personally, I have played World of Warcraft since 2010 when Cataclysm had just been released. Even when I took breaks from the game, I still tried my best to keep up with what's being updated and added into the game by the developers. I think my favorite expansion thus far, at least for me personally, would have to be the Warlords of Draenor, Legion, and Dragonflight expansions because of how story-driven they are and how they tie heavily into the already established lore of the series itself. 14:35 This is all one continuous storyline. You as the player character are a part of the game story from the very beginning and are revered as either the Horde's or the Alliance's champion because of this by the time you reach present-day with the Dragonflight expansion and later on with the newest one coming out in December 2024, the War Within and the World-Soul Saga following it. One of my favorite characters out of the entire series is Illidan Stormrage, also known as the Betrayer. He is featured in Warcraft 1 through 3 during the 1990's and is the main antagonist in the Burning Crusade expansion (He's the dude who did the voiceover for the cinematic and also the one with the horns and wings at the very end of the video), and he's also featured HEAVILY in the Legion expansion due to the introduction of the Demon Hunter hero class, who are called the Illidari. The Illidari are trained and taught by Illidan himself to fight against the forces of Kiljaeden, Sargeras, and the Burning Legion itself (who are the ACTUAL antagonists of the entire Warcraft series). There are many books that go into a deeper dive into the story and many Warcraft veterans would definitely give more insight as well than what I just did. Hope this helps at least a little bit :D!

I legit feel depressed when I watch that cinematic and the ones leading up to his fall. (Obviously it was a rip off from the Star War story lol but this one hurts more. I have no idea why. Maybe I wasn't heavily invested into star wars as I was with WoW? 🤷🏻‍♀️) but how arthas had his friends and loved ones turn their backs on him instead of trying to help him again and come to his senses. Maybe it's the story and quests in between how he kept the gift Jaina gave him, proving that he was still in there, still had a heart or something worth saving!! Shadowlands ruined the game for me when freaking sylvannas gets a redemption story but never Arthas. Both were corrupted. One gets a redemption while the other gets evaporated. Way to go blizz. Missed opportunity. 😫

@horrificbeauty1666 5 месяцев назад
@Sunnygirl305 you forgot more then just Sylvannas got redemption. Think of all the old raid bosses and lore figures that popped up and were evil but some how got redeemed. I feel like Sylvannas should of actually been killed and when Arthus soul was freed he was taken to possibly be redeemed. Like in Maldraxxus or something
@Sunnygirl305
@Sunnygirl305 5 месяцев назад
@@horrificbeauty1666 oh no I did not forget about them I was focused more on the topic of how sylvannas did the same exact thing that the lich king did, and she got the redemption story and arthas just disappears. I remember reading on reddit and on wowhead how a lot of players just left shadowlands when they saw sylvannas was never killed. People were raging how blizz teased that there is something arthas related to only see that he disappears and is gone forever. I was holding on to hooe that he comes back somehow. Still am... lmfao Like varian too. We got Uther in angel form atleast. I had hoped we would see more like thrall's family and the others but no arthas.

FYI Dragon Flight basically Dragons protectors of the world left their home land and hid it for reasons some of them in the previous expansions, 10,000 years later they finally dealt with the stuff in the other expansions and are going home. The Beacon in the trailer is how they find it. If it seems disjointed from the other Expansions, it kinda is tbh but its also nice cause its way more chill and doesn't need 10 years of expansion packs to understand what is going on.

I think I can somewhat explain what the stuff is about Wrath of the Lich King : In Warcraft 3, a RTS game, the chapters usually had you have a few hero units around which the events of the story occurred. In the first and second chapter, you would play as Arthas, the prince paladin of the Kingdom of Man on a crusade against the resurgence of undead alongside his dwarven paladin ally Muradin Bronzebeard. In the first chapter, Arthas would try to do his best to protect the people and pull off heroics in the name of his father until he would come across more and more situations where either he'd cut it close or lose people while trying to protect them. At one point, a robed figure tells him that he might be able to gain the power needed to protect his people by looking for a sword named Frostmourne. He then goes on a quest where he is looking for the sword though Muradin is growing more and more concerned about the whole purpose of it. When they do find Frostmourne, Muradin reads the inscription on the altar where it is kept and warns Arthas that the sword is cursed. Arthas still claims it and seemingly does gain the power he needs to protect the people at the cost of Muradin dying when the sword is unsealed. Arthas then leads his forces against the undead and obliterates them from his father's lands, slaying the demon that had been commanding them. Arthas returns to his father to be celebrated as a hero and told he will be the next in line to be the king.... only for Arthas to mercilessly kill his father then and there in front of everyone, showing then that he has been corrupted by the sword. The next chapter has Arthas, now a fugitive, gather the remainder of the forces of undead he had been hunting, basically having the same 'hero' but playing the "Undead" campaign instead. No longer a paladin but instead a Death Knight (think Dark Knight but with necromantic powers and undead), he would go on to lead the undead forces and turn the tide of the war, claiming the lands of his father and corrupting them with fel energy. From there on out, I do not know much what happens because while I tried to play WC3 at the time, I sucked (and still do) at RTS games but things would eventually lead to Arthas finding the helmet of the previous Lich King, sealed in ice besides a throne. Unsealing the helmed and donning it, Arthas would then become the Lich King and remain seated on his throne, frozen for years until the events of WotLK happens. I think it is interesting to see the juxtaposition between how the hallmark representative of both the Dark Knight and the Death Knight job and class basically have completely opposite origins. In FFIV, Cecil Harvey starts as a Dark Knight because he wanted to take up the dark sword at the behest of his foster father, the King of Baron, and loyally follow his orders despite each order slowly starting to gnaw at his guilty conscience, expected to kill and steal in the name of his King. He hit rock bottom when he seemingly lost everything : his father since he chose to go against him, his best friend because the latter betrayed him by kidnapping his lover Rosa, the child he chose to protect from Baron along with what few allies he had from their ship sinking, that he couldn't do anything against Golbez due to his reliance on the dark sword and then ending up where his latest act as a dark knight had done much damage. Cecil had genuine regret at what he did and sought to become a paladin not simply as bid for power but as a real mean to redeem himself. In WC3, Arthas starts as a paladin who is so self-sure and prideful that he believes he doesn't need to heed the counsel and warning of his friends and allies. He believes that being a paladin means he can do no wrong and has no compulsions about the consequences of his actions which he does in the name of his father. When he becomes challenged and fails, instead of seeing the error of his ways, he doubles down on his pride and it is then he is easily manipulated to seek out Frostmourne. He believes that power and might makes right and Frostmourne deserves to be wielded by him and that his own will can overcome whatever strain it might have despite it slowly corrupting him into a death knight. Arthas was a textbook example of a fall from grace due to seeking power for the sake of power and that his desire to 'protect his home' was more about protecting his personal pride. Both end up doing the same, killing their king and father figure... though in Cecil's case, he found out the real king had long been dead and replaced by a fiend and Arthas was no longer himself and didn't think his father was necessary. Yet, by the time the both of them had made it to the throne room, they both were resolute to do the same thing.
