Hey if you really want to learn the lore, the channel @lawllin has an amazingly well explained lore for before Warcraft 3, for Warcraft 3, Classic WoW an the expansion. I seriously seriously recommend it to anyone wanting to learn the lore before jumping to Classic.

Hi man. I propose to you listening to Sylvanas song but with subtitles because there is one version on RU-vid. Basically every single song you heard with someone singing has lyrics and they are in elvish tongue but someone took the time and effort for us normal people to know what they sing about. However Sylvanas mainly sings about the death of hers and her resurrection as Banshee. This is very sad yet beautiful.

That Ragnaros stuff is in retail but its long dead content on retail. Cataclysm classic is coming out in the spring/summer, that where it will be main content.

Would simply be insane to force people to play through 20 years of WoW lore and story. FFXIV doesn't have much story all together an if you would cut out the stupid grind, the most brutal thing is to play it a second time while knowing how it will all lead nowhere. Main reason FFXIV story wasn't garbage from start was the idea in your head that it could lead to some interesting, awesome things. When you play it now, you know how absurdly stupid the Ascians are and will die just because the developers are too lazy to make more out of them than idiots who just stand there till to you poke them enough for them to die. And when you know that Garlemald will never do ANYTHING meaningful throughout the whole game before just dying off screen, yeah, just utter shit and it makes zero sense that they are the bad guys (because bad guys would just burn those Eorzan city states to the ground. Easily.). Meanwhile when you look at WoW, everything just fits together MORE when you know how it ends. What is by the way just normal. When you look in RL, the majority got zero clue what is going on and where this leads (since they are stupid and lazy). But of course when it is over, it becomes easier and easier to see what happened and why. But the stupid people cheer for the bad writing of FF14, that create utterly absurd antagonists lie the Ascians, Garlemald, Zenos and alike, likely because it's to close to the just as bad anime stories they like, which are just as shallow, but with a lot "rule of cool". But when you for example get something like Zovaal, who is a perfect example how a manipulator works in real life and how an actual bad person would act, oh my, they really don't like that actually GOOD writing. Likely because it makes them feel as dumb as they are if something isn't as simple as a Mary Sue anime plot line, where the psychopathic protagonits are just whitewashed -- as they are in FF14. Scions are mass murdering psychopathes withotu any real plan nor care about what's going on. The WoL is a mindless puppet without any free, utterly unable to go against anything those psychopathes demands. Hydaelyn/Venat is Ultra Hitler, genociding EVERYTHING then ripping apart all souls to torture them for tenthousands years in endless agony and what without having any plan beside "yeah, this might create something and if not, well, then I will just drive away, lol). And while this COULD be an interesting story, it never is. Instead ot pointing at that insanity and force the player to confront it, the whitewash is completely and sell it as absolutely fine, making it less a game than look like a propaganda movie from a fascistic state. You know, such movies which tell you that slaughter the enemy is fine and that you should be a good soldiers who never questions the great goal. That's how FF14 feels. WoW meanwhile got many, many greys and protagonists being confronted with the horror of their decisions. Take the cinematic in which Anduin speaks to the imprisoned Saurfang. The start alone, when he looks at the dead and the remaining soldiers, being confronted how little soldiers are left now and that they have to force the peasants into uniform next. "I thought we were fighting for peace. But we are just... fighting." Such scenes are extremely important. Because they make the difference between a game being warpropaganda that sells war and slaughter as easy and cool and an anti war story: that shows what war means. In case of FF14 it's especially disgusting, not only because how far it goes with this (genocide of a planet is fine, slaughtering a whole continent is fine, fooling around with weapons of mass destruction which could easily destroy the whole planet is fine - and so on), but that if for example steals so much from other FF games like FF12, takes the message of the game (war is horrible, especially for the week) and just turns it around completely. There is ZERO CHANCE that Eorza would be able to stand a single day against a massive high tech Empire like Garlemald, which not only got more insane technology as we got today with flying air craft carriers which are firing with nuke cannons, but also way more magic on their side because the majority of Garlemald aren't Garleans = absolutely able to use magic and they are WAY more and likely also WAY better educated, since Garlemald got schools, universities and all. But what is the FF14 game making out of it? Every antagonist is retarded and just dies. Easily. Making it look like that war is awesome and cool and that you don't need to question anything, just follow the as murderous as suicidal orders of your superior, everything will work out fine. That's 100% how war propaganda looks like and seeing how Japan is going back to its ugly fascistic roots since 2015, it wouldn't even surprise me when the state paid Square for that... That or just laziness, because if you make such shallow garbage out of it, that's of course way easier to write.

to be fair the raids that were released in wod were really good from what ive seen and heard, especially blackrock foundry which is like a top 5 raid for a lot of people

@@jagosvujovic2086 Wod also had a very good questing experience. I think it was just that it didn't have a lot for the endgame players at the time, and after they did release 6.2 and Tanaan Jungle we were left with that for a whole year; one of the most pronounced content droughts I can remember. Legion was such a good expansion after this that history doesn't hold much of a grudge, though.

it offers too little substance for how long it is, combined with the fact that its entirely narrated, whereas the warbringers shorts do a lot more visual storytelling. "he did the thing, then overcame it" times X is a lot less interesting than "this is who this 'new' character is".

same for me. Voljin wouldve been a great WC but they did him VERY dirty. It is one thing i hate to this day in horde story.

Something important to note about WoW story is that half of it is unfinished and meant to be picked up later. Like Voljin choosing Sylvanas was meant to be a wtf moment and just left as an unfinished thread. Which is why some of the longer stories have abrupt changes in character. Garrosh for example was portrayed as hot headed but under Thrall and Saurfang he grew to understand honor and what the horde is. Then he became a genocidal racist. Was more interesting sure but his storyline is not very smooth. I imagine the new multi-expansion saga is meant to stop this and tell more cohesive stories that persist through multiple expansions.

@@SwitchxA Uh, no, you talk about FF14, where they don't care to create actual lore and keep everything as vague as possible, so they can easily change it, since they themselves don't really had much of a clue where this would go (they in the end took the easiest path, just killing all antagonists off and brutally whitewashing the Mary Sue protagonists). And guess what: people change. All the time. Especially with the circumstances and when manipulated. You crybabies just love to throw your own shit around, that's all. None of you got any clue nor even care about the WoW lore and story. By the way the same for the FF14 fanboys, who got no clue about the sick story, they just cheer for it anyway, for the Ultra Nazi Hydaelyn/Venat and its ultra disgusting genocide and endless centuries of distorting torture, because at least in this fucked up world this satan has created, they are the invincible pawn who can rofl stomp everything else, that's enough for them to like it, no matter how boring it is presented.

I'd like to add to this by saying that in the Shadowlands, there is a dungeon called 'De Other Side' where the player helps Bwonsamdi defeat the old death spirit that helped Sylvanas. Its pretty cool

@@DaisyCloverbee Yeah, very true. I've tried Dragonflight in december, did the raid saw what went down and left again. This game isn't worth my time anymore. I talked to a friend who didnt know you had to play BFA as a newcomer for the very first time. Imagine meeting like 40 Story related characters without any introduction to them. Who is who, who is motivated by what. Who is allied to whom? A lore nightmare at this point.

also the movie is complicated... its probably actually best to watch if you *dont* know the actual backstory, only recognize the characters. but for the long-term WoW fans that watched it it was disappointing to see how far they went away from the source-lore, instead of just retelling it. its kinda like the GitS liveaction movie, but made by people who still actually cared.

I didn't even play WoW that much, mostly when friends did, but it's not really hard to still follow the lore and story.

Shaohao was probably one of their better stories, and was relevant to the Pandaria story too, since it introduced characters and also some of the main evils we do fight there, who ever said to just skip panda stories is dumb, given MoP remains one of the better xpacks with a more coherent story telling.
