@@sabrakt That's a possibility. But judging from the scenes we were shown, which were in the middle of an invasion, I think someone else forced Ifrit to awaken inside him, without him having control. Which will likely end up with him being the one who kills Joshua (Phoenix vs Ifrit in the cutscene), and from then on he would be seeking revenge against the person that awakened him to Ifrit's power and made him lose control. I believe that when he shouts for Joshua to stop, that's his internal monologue. He doesn't have control, but he can still see everything that Ifrit is using his body for. He's begging Joshua not to fight him, because he knows Joshua is going to get hurt. And when he shouts the "please stop, he's my brother" line, he's pleading with Ifrit to cease his rampage. This would make for some extremely intriguing story dynamics, as Clive would then have to spend the rest of the story struggling with the fact that he has a murderous monster inside him, and whether or not he should rely on its power to see his goals to fruition.
@@sabrakt People are speculating that if Clive is Ifrit’s Dominant, that it’s possible that Rosaria was attacked and Clive was being possessed or controlled and forced to transform into Ifrit which forced or triggered Joshua into transforming into Phoenix.
Looking at the artwork, this makes me excited for just how BIG the world could be... this has the potential to be the BIGGEST modern FF game we've ever seen yet!
I love the character designs so far; they're so classy and simple which is a nice break from the endless belts, buckles and accessories that Nomura pumps out. Oriflamme has heavy Minas Tirith vibes with the white city. I'm looking forward to this entry. Theory: The Blight is Bahamut. The drake resembles Bahamut and if they become aligned he will take over.

When it comes to the Eikons I hesitate to guess so early but I will say we have never, as far as I'm aware, gotten any actual indication that the Eikons are linked to the crystals. I and I think many others assumed that to be the case, that each crystal would have an element and an Eikon representing that element. But I noticed that there's no mention of any of that at all so far, only that it is expected for there to be only one Eikon of fire. Which makes me rethink the assumption that the crystals have one Eikon linked to them. Other than 'prosperity' and magic itself seeming to come from the crystals, maybe the Eikons are an entirely unconnected phenomena. In Rosaria, the dominant of Phoenix takes the role of Archduke when they come of age. That means that Joshua and Clive's father who is the current Archduke was Phoenix's dominant, and by the sounds of it that stopped not long after Joshua was born since it appears only one person can be the dominant of an Eikon at a time. So, is it random when an Eikon goes to a new dominant, or is it actually genetic? Clive was 'expected' to be Phoenix's next dominant, presumably because he was the current dominants first child? Instead Joshua, his second child, became the dominant. Still in the bloodline, which does point to it being either genetic or possibly the choice of the Eikon themselves? If that were the case, why did Phoenix not choose Clive? Then there's the Iron Kingdom and how they kill any dominants they find out about there, even though they worship the crystal. It seems like this all distances the Eikons from the crystals since there is only one crystal shared between Iron Kingdom and Rosaria and yet they seem to be dealing with dominants in both kingdoms. I can't see how we can have the Phoenix in Rosaria appearing to be passing down a single bloodline who are the Archdukes of their kingdom, and have dominants turning up in the Iron Kingdom getting killed, if each crystal only has one known Eikon. I'm just getting the feeling dominants appearing might not have as much to do with the crystals as we first expected.
First, thanks for adding that note about not judging based on the banners. I mean... Dhalmekia clearly has either Gilgamesh or a random soldier on their banner instead of Titan. What I didn't notice at all until you analyzed the map is that the Mothercrystals are some massive hints. Drake's Head is clearly a pillar of ice so... Shiva. Drake's Fang is in a mountain so Titan. Drake's Spine looks a LOT like a storm cloud (it could be a waterfall) which could mean anything. Ixion, Ramuh, Odin, GARUDA (because it looks like Clive gets Garuda powers).
I read the comment wrong at first and got hope for Gilgamesh returning in the game...I'm gonna lose my fucking mind if goofy-ass FFV Gilgamesh makes a bonus boss cameo in this game, still world-hopping and collecting weapons

Honestly the name Clive was cool with me after seeing the name next to the character art. Looks right. As for the pronunciation, the jp version is spelt like kuraive, so the Cleave people are probs going to be downtrodden here. So excited for the XIV esque stuff.
Pretty sure an early ARR 14 NPC seen in Waking Sands was named Clive so yeah it's likely pronounced as you'd expect, regularly how it would be pronounced. Tge name fits.
I'm thinking Drake is probably the one true deity that was mentioned. The paragraph said "one true deity" not their one true deity. That seems to imply to me that this deity is known by all the nations.
what i see on the banner (may be wrong) kingdom of walloed more likely they had a Odin as summon because those banner have horse with six leg's that represent of odin horse so far and for Holy empire of sanbreque will be Shiva because on the banner i see a woman open it's arm
I'm curious if you'll be able to explore those cities rather than just see them from a distance. We don't have to explore them in their entirety, mind you, but maybe in small sections like in Yakuza or in Altissia like in XV, albeit with a bit more openness. EDIT: In retrospect, Altissia had a good amount of exploration.
You guys might not believe me but... I'm currently writing my first book and I had some trouble thinking of plot points. I just so happened to watch the FF16 trailer when it first came out and it gave me a whole bunch of inspiration. So I made up my characters and so on. I kid you not. I called my tritagonist Clive(but as Clyve). I'm about 5 chapters in and finding out that my recycled character and the MC for the game have the same name before I even knew it... BOI PS. I've decided to go with Caspian now¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: You know, I can't help but think of this book series called the Wingfeather Saga when I look at Clive's position. Essentially, there are three siblings who have different roles as royalty, but the main thing is that the firstborn merely protects the king, who is the secondborn. In the story, the firstborn cares deeply for his younger brother but often goes through tumultuous periods of resentment at being the more responsible and experienced one, yet never getting the glory, payoff, respect, etc. for his deeds. I mention this because perhaps Clive's position might be similar to theirs. Joshua obtains the throne as Archduke when he comes of age, but Clive merely has to protect him. Makes you wonder.
To add onto this, funnily enough, the secondborn in the series that I just talked about also has a complex similar to Joshua, in which he wishes that others stronger and smarter than him could hold his position as king, and that he doesn't feel experienced enough for it.
She's probably related to the dominant of Shiva, but I doubt she is her, herself. I doubt the Empire she was from would have given her up as a ward to Rosaria if that was the case.
@@AlleluiaElizabeth sorry, my take is that she will become the dominant in the future and that she is the girl mentioned in the trailer. Of course this assumes it's like Type-0 where a crystal's power can be transferred.
Theories/Predictions . Will come back when the game releases to see how wrong I got it. T1) Maybe by "dark Eikon" perhaps there are "light Eikons" and "dark Eikons" like the crystals in FFIV, and Phoenix is the light Fire Eikon and Ifrit is the dark Fire Eikon. Or the Eikons that have dominants in the monarchies of the various regions are "major Eikons" and Eikons whose dominants are not linked to a region nor have dominants in royalty are dark Eikons. T2) Clive's getting revenge for what's been done to his family and duchy. His brother was like 10 when everything went down, so I don't think he'd be on a blood quest to kill his brother. T3) Clive is actually the dominant for Ifrit and no one figured it out because either no one knew Ifrit could have dominants or they didn't expect Clive to be Ifrit's dominant. In the extended trailer he yells at Joshua to stop, either because Joshua's going crazy or Joshua's trying to get to Clive. Clive also yells "Stop! That's my younger brother!" over a scene of Ifrit ripping something up. Maybe Clive awakened Ifrit out of distress like Joshua awakened Phoenix, and because Clive doesn't have control of Ifrit, Ifrit's going wild too and attacking Phoenix/Joshua. Maybe ripping up the Phoenix? T4) Post-incident, Clive ran off/was exiled and went to the Iron Kingdom. The tattoo looks similar to the one on their flag. Perhaps without telling anyone his real identity? The Japanese dialogue also implies that the tattoos have magic that makes them unable to disobey orders. T5) Jill is Shiva's dominant. T6) Joshua dies during the incident, but being Phoenix's dominant, he resurrects/has a chance to resurrect. P1) If there is a token romance in this story, they will resurrect the idea they had of Stella and Noctis, where the two are rivals on opposing factions but also in love. The token romance will also most likely not involve Clive and be about side characters. P2) Speaking of side characters, you will be able to play other characters, but there's no real party combat. If there is party combat, it will be more like pre-patch FFXV where you couldn't control the others. P3) This game won't have much humor, but there are lighthearted moments still. It's still Final Fantasy after all. Perhaps humor will be handled in a Yakuza-style way where in sidequests, weird shit happens around Clive that he just accepts, stonefaced.
My theory: I'm pretty sure Ifrit is gonna be a summon of a Dominant from the Iron Kingdom, cus I don't actually believe they kill such a source of potential power. Or at least, their latest leader won't have done so with the latest Dominant they had, prolly as a bid to actually take control over Rosaria finally. And a Dominant in the Iron Kingdom would be fire-aspected, in theory, cus its drawing from the same crystal as Pheonix. Also, the "Eikons and their Dominants" description on the site mentions some Dominants being "bound in fear of" their strength, but all of the nation descriptions that mention Dominants seem to put them on pedestals of some kind or another. (Though I could see an argument that the Dominant of Shiva in the theocracy empire is "bound" in a certain sense and doesn't have much say in whether he/she fights.) The odd men out is the Iron Kingdom and the Crystalline Dominion, whose Doms are supposedly either dead or non-existent. I don't think I believe either of them.
I have a feeling that the scene where Ifrit tears into something that happens to shoot out blood, could be Clive's arm since during his time as the First Shield of Rosaria, he has a normal left arm, but as we can see, him after the incident has a weird Ifrit-looking arm of some sort. I don't know the entire details, but I would say Ifrit might of tore off his arm in that one scene, and somehow afterwards gets a new magic arm as we see Clive in his timeskip self.
So I really hope that Joshua is the actual antagonist instead of possibly dying at the start before they're older. It would be a brothers revenge story! Also the website is great, I really love the world section and all the art.
I'm curious about how the Eikon's choose their Dominants. Presumably, there can only be one Dominant for each Eikon alive at a time. What is the process for predicting that someone will be the next Eikon? It must be genetic, for the most part. If everyone thought it would be Clive, but then it turned out to be Joshua, then it must mean Phoenix is always in the same family, which is why they're the ruling noble family. The previous Phoenix Dominant was probably Clive and Joshua's grandfather, who likely died right before Clive was born (I'm assuming that once you're born, it's too late for you to be a Dominant candidate, I could be wrong though, we'll see)
I’m pretty curious about the blight...where it came from, if it’s affecting Rosaria first and the fact that the mother crystal there is the drake’s breath. Is it a kind of geostigma infection that’s spreading through the drake? Also the wider plot and reasons for rebelling against the crystals, given the main tag line is ‘the legacy of the crystals has shaped our history for long enough’. What’s the benefit and reason for going against the Crystal? Were there negative consequences to the Crystals power...sacrifices perhaps being made to appease the drake. Is rebelling now the only way to stop the blight?
Great video Pez, loved the weatherman report-like part at the end across the map lol I got to admit i never fully clocked that Clive and Joshua were brothers, but when i rewatch the trailer it does feel right now, i figured he was just a royal guard or appointed guard with no real ties of family...this acutally makes me a bit scared on what they will do with this story cause we already see how dark it can get....not gonna lie i fear for that family as a whole, we didnt get to see the other characters yet sadly but id imagine the king and/or queen will be named at some point aswell Im personally even more hyped for this now we the setting of the world map and what seems to be our MC's home dominion, alot of FF call backs in design also, like the center city giving off major Crystal Tower vibes for me and like u said in the video a ishgard-like city, it makes me wonder if they will pull various citys/structures from other FF's across the board and base the region around it, which i am well up for i would honestly be VERY happy with a 2021 release......but this is also something i dont want ripped to pieces like what happened with FF15.....give us the full game Square dont cut parts of DLC, at the VERY LEAST a story for a different reigion with totally different characters/story as dlc that has minimal to do with the main story itself and is not "chopped off" from the main story like alot of the FF15 DLCs were, even if it doesnt come to 2021 i can wait till latest 2023 any longer tho and i'll fear for the "long messy development" trend that ff15 ended up with Im pretty confident that Yoshi P's team can pull this off though, ive seen the dedication into the FF14 patches and i sometimes question how the heck they get that content out so fast at times as some of the stuff is full brand new assets/story/music/mechanics the lot, if they can pull that offer in a matter of like 2-3 months for ff14 then im pretty hopeful for a 2021 release, though i do think it will be late 2021 Either way super hyped and cant wait to that day in the future when it its in our hands
Considering the next mainline title is always worked on before the current one is even out, Nomura isn't attached to the project this time around, and they will have been working on it for at least four or five years, I'm going to guess it will release in either the later half of next year, or start of 2022.
PEASANT I have a theory. It is said Clive was expected to be the dominant because he's the firstborn. Well what if he isn't? What if he was adopted at an early age and it's been kept a secret! What if he is actually from another land, what if his arm really is ifrits? Or heck, he could even be the dominant of the crystalline dominions crystals. This could open so many theories. That would explain why Joshua is the dominant and why Clive looks like he is channeling Ifrit in the artwork!
Doesnt the trailer show clive having eikon powers. So he probably gets them from defeating each one. Pheonix definitely comes from some sort of pact with joshua
OK OK OK.. so Clive is Ifrit’s dominant who appears after the killing of the father in a fit of rage. Ifrit kills Phoenix and Joshua in the process because Clive can’t control it? It’s evil/dark?? Then Clive gets outcast/banished and gets a face tattoo 🤯 Let’s go!
People already b%tchin' about the new protagonist's name? I'm actually okay with the fact they abandoned the nature-based nomenclature. People forget that common names were always part of FF worlds. FFII's main characters: Firion, Maria, Guy, Leon, Josef, Emperor Mateus. Other than Firion - all the others are common English names (Mateus - Latin for Matthew). FFIV had Cecil, Edward, Rosa. Terra's original Japanese name is Tina. And Bartz almost sounds like Bart[holomew]. Oh... not to mention Princess Sarah from quite a few FF games. I'm okay with Clive as long as they make the character and his story memorable... and as long as they don't reveal the rest of the playing characters as Frank, Karen, George and Ricky.
There has to be a lot of bad feelings between Rosaria and the Iron Kingdom. The Drake's Breath crystal is situated on one of the Iron Kingdom's islands after all, yet Rosaria shares claim to its power. On top of that, the Iron Kingdom hates or fears dominants so much that they kill any they discover at birth. Rosaria on the other hand not only celebrate their dominants but make them the leaders of their kingdom. Of all the western kingdoms, Rosaria celebrates their dominants the most, and the Iron Kingdom hates/fears them the most, yet they are right next to each other and share the power of the same crystal. I wonder if the line in the trailer about 'our enemies will not relinquish their mother crystal easily' was in reference to the Iron Kingdom. Maybe because of the threat of the blight, which so far seems to be primarily a Rosarian concern, they decided to go to war to try and secure full control of the Drake's Breath crystal.
Hey pez as we are all speculating that the younger brother is a red mage from how he is dressed since you played final fantasy 14 could Clive be a blu mage because in ff14 you do learn spells from the primals

Ok, so first of all I am in the camp that Waloed's Eikon is Odin. The Sleipnir with 6 legs, the Tolkeinesque (or german/norse) oriented area (orcs), and the war-like testing of borders is very Odin. I'm also thinking that the Mothercrystals combine or something. That said, I have 2 theories. 1. I think we may have some clues when you connect the Valisthea map (or 4 of the MotherCrystals) to the "Four Auspicious Beasts"/Cardinal Directions. Using the 4 directions/Auspicious Beasts is not uncommon in Final Fantasies so there is precedent but more than that take a look at this: Rosaria (West, Fire, Phoenix), Dhalmeks (South, Earth(?), Titan), Waloed (East, ???, Odin(?)), Sanbreque (North, (water? air?), (Garuda? Air Dragon? Bahamut?)) Compare with the four auspicious beasts/guardians: Vermillion Bird (South, Fire), White Tiger (West, Metal), Black Tortoise/Black Warrior (North, Water), Azure Dragon (East, Wood) Even without rotating the cardinal directions clockwise there are some interesting parallels: Vermillion Bird ~ Phoenix, White Tiger (metal) ~ The Iron Kingdom, Black Warrior ~ Odin, Azure Dragon ~ The Flag of Sanbreque. It's not perfect but I really think there's something there. 2. I think the Eikon aligned with Sanbreque is a dragon of some kind. It could be Bahamut but I think they're saving Bahamut for something else (maybe the Mothercrystals are the remains of a dead bahamut and Eikons are kinda like avatars/aspects of the dragon god?). So if not Bahamut, The Mist Dragon from FFIV might work and does work with the "Azure Dragon" Auspicious Guardian motif. They may even just merge garuda with the Mist Dragon for a wind aspected dragon for Sanbreque. This isn't even the crux of the theory though. In the trailer, they identified the Dragoon as "A Dragoon... Imperial Vipers" indicating that Dragoons are likely an elite class in the "Empire". The only one of which is the Empire of Sanbreque. In the site it says that they worship "The one true deity" and the Dominant is used as the empire's champion... So my theory is: Sanbreque worships God-Dragon Bahamut whose remains makes the Mothercrystals and who the Holy Emperor is considered the living incarnation of. The Eikon of Sanbreque's mothercrystal is a dragon (maybe the mist/wind dragon) and the Dominant shares some of the dragon's power with an elite unit/guard called Dragoons (similar to how Clive is able to harness some of Phoenix's power as "The First Shield of Rosaria").
When I saw this very first artwork, the protagonist immediately reminded me of the main character of Dragon Age II. Also, in french, the eikons are translated... "Primals". There's already so much XIV in XVI!
Primals are also Eikons in 14. Different races call them by different names, but yhe nomenclature is used. There are a ton of 14 influences in the trailer alone. And considering how amazing 14 is nowdays.... thats a good thing
The iron kingdom flag looks like the symbol on older Clive's sword. So guessing he joins them after Rosaria. Think there might be multiple aikons per house. I see possibly Leviathan/Bahamut and another Female in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque's flag. Shiva/Siren or a goddess? The Dhalmekian Republic definitely has multiple summons. Look at the fire/wind/earth and two other symbols. Interesting stuff im hoping for a lot more summons than 15 had
There might actually be "lesser eikons" like they appear but arent as powerful as others such as Titan. Like Garuda or Shiva might not be associated with any house but still appear within a nation or outside of a nation.
We saw Shiva but she isn't named in any of the kingdoms, even though Titan is. I think this is because Shiva has fallen and the Duchy of Rosaria took in Jill, Shiva's dominant, for diplomatic reasons (read Jill's character sheet). As for the other eikons I think it will be Odin/Ixion and Leviathan. I don't think Garuda will be in this game.
There's heavy hints of Garuda in the trailer though, in the form of one of Clive's aerial combos he performs against one of the enemies at one point in the trailer in which he is seen using 2 massive talons with a slightly green glowing hue to them.
So, random theory after looking at the site again. There's a hint about the state of Sanbreque's Dominant. Above the the country banners it says: "... In some nations these Dominants are treated as royalty in admiration of this strength-in others they are bound in fear of it, and forced to serve as weapons of war. Those who are born as Dominants cannot escape their fate, however cruel it may be." Three forms of treatment: Royalty, Living Weapon, and of course the Iron Kingdom just kills Dominants. In Dhalmekia, Rosaria, and Waloed the Dominants are all leaders or at least respected. So I think it implies that Dominant of Sanbreque is bound by the church as a living weapon. Assuming that dominant is Shiva, which based on their iconography (a saintly figure + dragons, getting a lot of Heavensward vibes). It's like and alternate universe Ishgard but where Iceheart is "born?" with Shiva's power and is bound as a child by the church and forced to fight wars she does not wish to wage. FF loves their tragic magical girls and it's the Heavensward writer so I am suspecting tragedy. Kinda hoping Jill is not going to be Shiva now.
One thing that is bothering me is that this game doesn't seem to feature a party at all. Maybe because parties usually don't fit well with action combat, but either way I don't think I like the idea of a mainline FF game in which you only play as one character.
I think something evil comes out of joshua and he will be the endboss. Everybody thinks he died in this accident and somebody kills him. But I think the ifrit will come from him he will have two Bestias. And on this point he turns to the darkness.
By what I can tell Rosaria Phoenix, Sanbreque Bahamut, Waloed Odin, Dhalmekian Titan (but flag shows all 6 basic elements), Iron kingdom bismarck / atomos? shares Phoenix's crystal.
maybe waloed houses Odin because the horse although seemed like ixion but i noticed that it looks like it had 6 legs, a shield and in that shield, a spear-like weapon. that could be Odin’s gungnir

Holy empire - I thought Shiva just because of the white and blue colour pallet plus what I assumed to be a female at the top makes me think its Shiva. Kingdom of Waloed - has to be Odin that's his 6/8 legged horse Slephnir. Iron kingdom - coast of the storm? Garuda right? She has to be. Shes lady of the vortex and winds. I shivered when you talked about all of the land being named as part of a dragon and that's what I was thinking too, all of them combined summons Bahamut, and we saw the Dragoon in the trailer maybe he and a group of other zealots want to call upon Bahamut. Do you think the reason Clive can use the summons as "Arm" skills is because he was meant to be the Dominant or expected to be, so hes more susceptible to Eikon powers? Makes me think hes now some kind of, summoner/blue mage hybrid Omfg I'm typing as I watch and I said to my friend the other day that Clive is a creepy uncle name hahaha. Maybe the dragon you pointed out with clive is a fragment of bahamut, dont know if you've seen the dragon prince on netflix but there is this unnecessarily sexy deep voiced elf who takes the form of a big evil Caterpillar (cooler than it sounds) and it just whispers in this dark mages ear and basically uses him as a puppet. Maybe bahamut is doing the same whispering promises of revenge but all is a rouse to bring his body back. Mannnnn I've missed doing this
I can't wait man, this game is getting more hype with every passing info and can't wait for the next info dump in 2021. Glad we got other peasants who were able to placed their kingdoms on the map and I am getting heavy Final Fantasy 12 and 14 vibes big time!
Have you watched the japanese trailer yet? There's a bit of an interesting little detail in it that's not apparent in the english trailer, something concerning "Little Brother". You've read how everyone is expecting the first son, Clive, to be the Dominant? Well, what if they were right, just that the first son isn't Clive. The Archduke might've had another son, or daughter(?), beside those two, but he/she was disowned because of something. That person came back with the faction that attacked the duchy, possibly the Iron Kingdom, to claim his birthright. That's why Clive later fled to Dhalmekian. There's one thing that doesn't connect though, what happened to Jill after Joshua's incident? The captain was saying that the Shiva's Dominant is a girl, could it be her. Never mind that, something just doesn't sit right with killing Joshua right away like that, plus the only thing we see was Ifrit killing Phoenix, not Joshua. It's a bit of a stretched out assumption but there's also the fact that Clive is portrayed as wielding Ifrit in the artwork, so it might be that Clive is the one summoning Ifrit in the trailer. Something happened in that war and Clive and Joshua becomes enemies, it might be something tragic concerning Jill or the Archduke, and maybe that's why Clive fled to Dhalmekian.
One thing that bothers me is that Clive and Joshua don't look alike. Especially their hair color are so different, even though they're brothers. And also Joshua looks has some resemblance from his parents so it makes sense that Joshua is their son. But for clive i don't find any resemblance between him and his parents
Waloed seems to have odin as its eikon, horse and the odin mask looking thing at the top Also the holy place looked like leviathan was at the bottom half of the flag, idk though
Jill is the “ward” of the duchy to maintain “peace” between their lands. It might be what you propose, that she’s a weapon to protect her new home. But I feel more like she is a hostage. I guess we’ll see.
@@FM-cp6kc One does not need to be unkind to their hostages. Jill could be allowed to interact with his sons and be treated with the highest respect by his staff, yet she is not allowed to ever leave the castle grounds or send messages to her family. A hostage is more likely to be cooperative if they are treated kindly.
Hey Pez, nice video as usual! I have a different theory for FFXVI. I think that Joshua has affinity with the fire element. So potentially he could be able to become the "summoner" of both Phoenix (good) and Ifrit (evil). He is still a child so his powers are not complete and the two entities are still "fighting" inside him to prevail. That is why he should stay inside in his parents' opinion, maybe to be both protected and not exposed to the evil of the outside world. Joshua in the beginning seems like a super cute character and is able to use fire as a healing power, so everyone thinks that he will become Phoenix summoner. Maybe they could add a certain "limit age" when people usually confirm their abilities around the age that Joshua appears in the game. Unfortunately there will be an attack where Joshua literally sees his entire family and home destroyed and then the "battle" between Phoneix and Ifrit starts inside him and the two summons try to prevail one another to get control over Joshua's mind/spirit. And maybe something goes terribly wrong during this process and that would be the start of the adventure. Of course this is just my theory and I could be totally wrong, but it would be a fresh change in storytelling if they manage to go around a similar idea rather than having always only the good and bad guys on two different sides. PS: also the name they give to the summoners in this game is quite interesting. "DOMINANTS". In genetics dominant traits are the ones that PREVAIL over the weaker (non-dominant) ones. So in order to express their abilities these special people who have affinities with the elements should see which counterpart (evil vs good) will become dominant at a certain point of their lives.... Maybe? :D
My predictions were right after all. Based on the flags, the Eikons are probably Phoenix, Shiva, Odin, Titan, Iron Kingdom. So the Iron Kingdom kills off people born with a blessing IN THEIR TERRITORY, but each nation is supposed to have 1 Eikon. This means even Iron Kingdom might have an Eikon(Probably Ifrit himself since they share a crystal with Rosaria) but they don't succumb to him. Also the Japanese site says Clive is 15, Joshua is 10, Jill is 12. It adds "Clive becomes an avenger seeking The Black Eikon Ifrit". There's a possibility that Ifrit only possessed one of them once and got away with it, but either way Joshua is probably dead at the end. Edit: I just remembered based on the Japanese trailer, Sanbreque is basically Garlemald. They hired the dragoons to raid Rosaria. This would mean the Iron Kingdom is a different faction altogether and adult Clive was hired there, them not knowing he is actually a Dominant.
All the mothercrystals are references to a drake, so I'm guessing they're pieces of a buried Midgardsormr/Jormungandr/Leviathan world serpent, made of crystal? Levi would be especially possible with that giant whirlpool on the map near the "Drake's Tail". And yeah, the aether everyone is tapping is probably its life force. It may or may not be ok with this.
Theory: Maybe Ifrit is Joshua's real father. Like because only one fire dominant is supposed to be we assumed, Maybe if two dominants breed they make a new dominant and something like this could have happened and maybe only happened because Ifrit is seeking power and made a new dominant to kill and steal their powers.
Could Clive the one who they thought would be dominant in fact a long dormant dominant of Ifrit? Could it just happen and the character Clive has to deal with the unholy Ifrit Eikon which he could not control and now becomes an enemy?
Sambreque most likely is Odin. Odin is a warrior and a champion. Has a kingly visage if u notice the dragons are under a man on the flag. Also he comes out to smite his enemies pretty much talks about zantetsuken. Imo. All the crystals talk about parts of a dragon. Dragon head, tail, etc. The dragon parts are probably Bahamas pieces. And maybe similar to the reunion in ffvii, the dominants when all put together with their crystals do some weird summoning shit of bahamut, the ragnarock of ffxiv. Might make sense that those islands kill them off. All theory from this.
The thing I hope from FFXVI is you can summon them more at will rather than having a random chance of summoning one like in FFXV. Something closer to FFVII Remake would be awesome because I like how summons worked there.
I'm starting to think that Clive becomes the dominant of Iffrit now that we know Joshua is his younger brother. And he wants revgene on whatever made him and his brother dominants?
Just a theory, but an Ifrit is a type of jinn or demon. What if Clive somehow made a pact with it in order to use its power (with good intentions) the night the kingdom was attacked, but was somehow outsmarted by it.
