I wanted it to continue cause it’s another aspect of Tifa and Aerith being girlfriends and they have the BEST friendship out of all the characters in this trilogy so far. Yuffie and Barrett are a close second. No, that subject never gets brought back up. It is a pretty healthy and realistic thing to bring up cause as Jolie said, they’re crushing on the same guy, and since Tifa and Aerith are written so much better than most other characters who would delve into this topic it kept me on the hook.
I find Aerith's choice of words interesting. Because she doesn't say "Cloud" but "boys." Which suggests she is either unsure how Tifa might react or that Cloud isn't the only one on her mind. They do have conversations about Cloud later on but there's no specific call back to this particular conversation. If I had to guess; why this scene is in there is tied to Aerith's fate. The things left unsaid or the proverbial "unfinished business." I'm also on the side of wanting to know where that conversation was going to go. I have a suspicion that it has to do with the similarities between Cloud and Zack.
