Final Fantasy's Underrated Spinoff [PS4] || Type 0 HD Review

My review of Final Fantasy Type 0 HD which was played on the PS4. This game is pretty old so I was pretty lenient when judging the graphics and overall looks of the game.

This game is so freaking amazing, the only drawback that I have with the HD remake is the English VA, they not bad, they just can't give the same vibe I had when I play the fan translation ver. Also I recommended you listen to Karma, it's sung by Bump of Chicken and it's the theme song for Tales of Abys. Overall great review. Hope one day you tackle Trails series, particularly Trails in The Sky FC/SC.

Yeah, I did all my playthroughs using Japanese voices and only heard the English VO when recording the review. They definitely didn't sound very good to me. It seemed like they recorded the voices without looking at the gameplay scenes. I'll definitely check out the Tales of Abyss theme song, thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to wait for the next steam sale before I get trails since I missed the winter one that just happened.

Pro trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

The idea of forgetting anyone that died is a horrifying idea in itself. I was instantly hooked. The cast were great, especially the ending. Edit: I slightly disagree with a point you made saying that you’ll most likely stick to 3 characters and ignore the rest. I made sure they were always equal in strength bc that’s the bond I believe they shared in game. I didn’t feel like anyone was weaker than the other bc they all their own flaws and weakness that could compliment one another if you paired them right for some extra fun instead of choosing randomly. It was a blast training them all bc I felt so immersed in all their fighting techniques.

I would say 15, not crisis core since 15 is the same director and he made 15 slightly like 0, with missions. Crisis Core is hallways, bad textures and horrible combat

I appreciate your review and love your presentation. The story is all right with me. Playing many times, I find the story and its events questionable. I had many questions about the world of Orience but that's why there is a Rubicus (our history textbook) to read. Also, there are a few story sources outside of the game such as a Final Fantasy Type-0 manga, and Final Fantasy Type-0: The Ice Reaper manga (which I could not find them both around the web.) This is like we are learning history in a history class but with FF setting. Missions and rank evaluations are like challenging tests and terrifying exams which makes sense in a military school setting! I was determined to s rank everything by mostly playing Ace and King (my favourite FF character with range fighter profession, and the JP voice actor of GinTama). Also, Jack, Eight, and Queen are my favourites to play as. Let me tell you, it was very frustrating to perfect the mission. I do miss a lot opportunities to hit killsights and breaksights. I am still bad at landing hits on those. I know there are a couple of inaccessible dungeons which are hard as hell when you travel around Orience by air. I confronted monsters, and all my characters were swiped in many one-shots. What a frightening caves... Servants of the Crystal, War Howl of the Dreadnought, Erased Memories, and Zero are my most memorable soundtracks! I got excited to listen as I encounter the bosses. I am very glad you share your experience with the game. I agree mostly what you said. THANK YOU again lol! Sorry for the long text to read! I was excited to share and add more about the game.

It's good to share your thoughts! I didn't find the events too questionable but maybe I didn't think about it hard enough. I did use wiki and google a lot to look for the answers I wanted but I was very interested in Orience. This is one of the most challenging jRPGs I've played and I think this also made it more fun. Maybe Code Vein will change that (I never played Bloodborne or Dark Souls even though they aren't jRPGs). Getting Rank S on all the missions is much more effort than I'm willing to put in lol. Good job on your part for doing it! Thanks for sharing!

No problem! I was also wanting to learn more about the story, characters, and Orience. Like you did, I did went to Google and Wiki for more answers lol. Yes, it is challenging...when you are playing Finis Mode (Impossible Mode). I did find troublesome figuring out long and hard, getting stuck on sort of locations often, and the end mission became my personal hellish loop of retries (Hint Spoiler: two victims kept being targeted and slaughtered by two overpower monsters...). Anyways, I am so hyped looking forward your upcoming movies with JP voices and reviews. Keep it up!

This is in my opinion by far the most underrated ff. I felt like they made a much more interesting blend between the political and character driven parts of the story this time around when compared to ff12, in which (for my personal taste) the character driven one in the latter wasn't particularly amazing.

I think FF12 has a lot more scenes fleshing out the characters and developing them. Type 0 isn’t much of a character driven narrative at all, and it doesn’t exactly help that a lot of the scenes with the characters to begin with are omitted from the main story.

It doesn't come with Japanese Audio. You have to download it off the Playstation Store but it's free.

The tint is called color grading and motion blur in cinematics is a feature, not a bug.

For me this is the most underrated game in the series,and the last one i really liked. I have the feeling that FF fans just love the most simple plots,like those of FF7 and 10. Games were ur objective from the begining of the game is to kill the bad guy/big monster,and that is what happens at the end,no surprises at all,at the start of the game you already know how it will end.

Actually, early on in FF7, you are led to believe Shinra Corp and the president are whom you are after. But after a few hours in the story, you find out that something much bigger is going on. FF10, on the other hand, is pretty straightforward. It never deviates from that.

@@medmuscle But from the moment you know about Sephiroth the whole game is just "Cloud have to kill Seph",and that's it,even when they put more things in between the whole game is just that,Cloud killing Seph. Dont get met wrong,i love ff7 and also love ffx,but i also like more complex plots/worlds,and the games that tried to do that are the ones with the most hate,like the Lightning Trilogy,Type-0,or ff8 (yes,even if today it is remembered as a jewel ff8 received a lot of hate on his era) and i dont really get why the fans hate those games while the most simplistic ones receive so much praise

@@XXXKaruXXX I can understand. But Final Fantasy Tactics had a complex plot with multiple sides, and it is just about universally praised. So I don't believe every game with a more complex plot is universally panned, not that that was necessarily what you were insinuating. FF13 had some interesting plot points, but I think that the way they told the story was poor. Stuff was out of order, and then you had the data logs to explain all of the terminology. Damn those data logs! I read them all back in the day, but my goodness it was a chore! I still enjoyed FF13 for what it offered. It did have some interesting plot points, an excellent OST, and a gorgeous world. I think HOW you tell a story can be just as important as the story itself. Some simple stories can be great while others suck. Same with complex stories.

Ace is so OP, also, Seven HAS to be a reincarnation of Lightning to some degree. Shes just got too many red flags. She is a bit kinder to strangers tho.

I don't know how it plays on Steam. I only played the PS4 version which ran without issue. Steam reviews will probably give you a good idea of issues people have run into so you can decide if anything will affect you.

I like hiding story elements behind multiple playthroughs. It means the developers considered something very few developers worry about: replay value

holding vital story elements hostage for a second play through is not how you add replay value. Unless its a game where multiple story paths are available depending on choice. type zero made itself confusing by omitting important story detail.

sort of makese sense with the context of the story being endelss loops where if the desired outcome isnt achieved they reset the world, so multiple playthroughs with different things hidden behind them is a thematical choice as well

With everything together (graphic, gameplay, story, crazy definition from psp to ps4 or xbox one, characers and everything else about games from a rpg genre) What is your score: 10 is best 1 is worse I hope you read and I realy like to hear it

the only problem i have with this game is just the time management system, everything is missable, ofc u can get it on next playthrough but have to take notes on everything's just sucks, and doing that sub missions man, i kept forgetting which one i already take and which one i havent. Great game from the story and gameplay, but the time management system, multiple play thru and choice branches are just damn confusing that it makes a stressfull game.

Type 0 is a good game in my opinion but it's very different to any other Final Fantasy that's been done (that I know of / remember). So as long as what the game tries to do is close to what you want, then you will enjoy it. I think a lot of people don't like this game because it wasn't what they were expecting and they didn't like the direction the game was going. The story can/will get very confusing at points which can be a turn off and will require multiple playthroughs if you're not following any guides. Personally I don't mind looking up any questions I had or just to get more information on the lore off Wiki and forums. I think the time limit is probably the other biggest factor that may affect your experience. If you don't like being constrained by a time limit and forced to progress, then you won't like half the gameplay. You won't have time to do everything the first time which is why it requires multiple playthroughs. The other half of gameplay is combat and it's not like your typical action JRPGs. Abusing weakpoints is very important and requires timings which may not be your cup of tea. Of course there are easier difficulties where weakpoints aren't needed to win battles but then it might just be a boring hack and slash like game.

On that note, I actually recently read a reply from someone talking about the game and why it was set up that way. It made a lot of sense story wise but in practice, I'd still rather not have to replay the game to look at a new side of the story. But it's not a deal breaker for me thankfully.

My boy, we play ff7 and ff5. Ff fans dont care about graphics, we care about content. If you're told us you could make a game graphically like 10 but 100 times bigger w more systems we would take it over the nice graphics

Woah woah woah ff7 is horrible character models? I disagree. I actually prefer the more cartoony look, apposed to modern graphics that try to make it look as realistic as possible. The graphics of ff7 is part of why i like it, its a level of surreal. But yes i agree, good graphics are not essential for me to enjoy a game. 10 minutes into a good game, and i shouldnt be focusing on the graphics, as im drawn into the story or gameplay

They were still horrible and aged very quickly. This doesn't mean you can't like it. The art style of 7C is why I recommend it to my friend who never really plays final fantasy (its also a very easy, simple, and direct game). I think 7R is a great blend of realism and its original cartoony look. Its still goofy but grounded.

try the game for like 20 mins and I hate it. Is really clunky and the camera sucks really bad. Also the controls are bad. You have to use the R1 button to lock on targets but also to lock on dead targets to absorb their energy, so the game struggles to lock on the guy who is attacking you or the dead guy next to you. The AI next to you seems to do nothing since I think I was the only one taking enemies while my companions just run around and healed me from time to time.
