I felt they missed a trick in 12 in not making more of the fact that the game is set in the same world as FFT.

@@danielmaynard1370 kinda hard to reference FFT from FF12 considering FF12 is the first game in the Ivalice timeline. It takes place during the golden age of technology that FFT references with maps like the airship graveyard at the end.

FF12 is basically Star Wars in Ivalice.

I think this is certainly the most popular of the songs but, real talk, I still think Desert Land is the best song. I love the way the song starts so light and airy and gets really tense as the action intensifies; the progression is really cool and there is just so much going on in that tight packed little arrangement. Also, I'm a sucker for that little bit of harp they throw in to loop the arrangement. But what am I saying? Pretty much every song in the FFT soundtrack is amazing!

I appreciate the feedback and I'm sorry you're disappointed with it. My aim was to make a cleaner sounding version of the original without all the boomy reverb. The percussion that you mentioned (timpani) is still there in all the same places as the original, but it doesn't have a heavy echo that extends its length. It could also be louder if I wanted to mix it exactly like the original synths, but that wasn't my goal. I feel that my version has a different sound, but it still captures the feeling and progression of the original. However, if you think it feels totally different, then it seems I failed on this one.

Oh no, you have NOT failed on this one, by no means. After all, it is YOUR VISION. And it's completely true, the percussion IS there, and it has a correct volume that keeps the piece as one homogenous composition. It's just that some fans of certain songs will always be critical about their favourite pieces, and sometimes desire a remix that more than a remix is an improvement or an update; which by no means should be what you, YOURSELF, are trying to accomplish. You may get a new FREE ice-cream version of one of your favorites, only to discover the chocolate is not the EXACT same, and may dissapoint you; but it is in NO WAY a bad ice-cream... "It's just a new version" And if someone does not like it? Well, they can all go back to the original while everyone else enjoys this new one. Personal Vision is always correct. You are the artist here. You are not here to please everyone. You are here to express yourself. There will always be people who don't like what you do, once or twice; or ever. Fuck that people. I'm just some dude who happens to like both FFT and your music. But if I happened to be dissappointed at something due to having a certain expectation? Well, it's all on me. Not you.

As far as I'm concerned, you're not just some random dude on the internet. You're a fan of the FFT soundtrack and your opinion is shared by other listeners here. My goal is always to make something that captures the feeling of the original. I'm not at all bothered when people don't like my covers because they're too similar to the originals. However, if people think it feels totally different from the original, then that's a problem and not something I should ignore. Also, if I ever release a FFT cover album, I'd have a chance to redo this, so feedback is always important. Anyway, thanks again, and I'll keep your feedback in mind if I cover FFT again.

I really wanted to convey both a clear opinion and a personal one but i know it's impossible for me unless you listen to both tracks for the first time. But you really did a good job. Listening to it again afterwards, really helped me realize it's a good version, once personal bias is taken out of the question. Maybe it's the "Marching Band" Instruments giving it a feel and a reminder of what it FFT really is: A War (Game) Reenactment. A Military. PS: I promise you none of the dislikes is mine, i'm part of the supportive side XD

I'll eventually upload some original work again. I've still been composing stuff over the years even though I haven't uploaded any of it.

There's free software for almost every artistic endeavor. Unfortunately, there's no really good DAW (the type of program for making music) that's free. Additionally, the sample libraries are almost all expensive. There are some free sample libraries out there that sound realistic, but they require the full version of Kontakt, which is not free.

Yeah the OST had a pretty resonant full chamber reverb throughout the soundtrack

I decided not to use a lot of reverb on this one. I thought it would make it sound a bit cleaner since the original is a little too reverb heavy in my opinion. Judging from the comments, it seems that I was wrong. People seem to associate the heavy reverb with the composition itself. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I certainly could have emphasized the chime more.

@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic I agree with your assessment that the reverb can in fact make the tracks sound a little messy; they do a bit. However it is indeed important for the overall atmosphere of the piece. I think if anyone could strike the right balance on it, it's you.
