When I was fifteen, I had endless arguments with my friend about whether his Playstation (1) or my N64 was better. Final Fantasy VII was his strongest piece of evidence 😮
SMcGroove, you brought a smile to my 41 year-old face and lightened my heart. It's been 20+ years since my ears have heard this piece of music, but I immediately started whistling along like it never left me. You're a good thing for the world. Thanks.
I may be a little over a year younger than you, but you are not the alone in that reaction. Nanaki being one of my favourite characters of the FF-games (7-10) I played only adds to that. The second is Aerith, and the third I like to a similar extent is Auron frm FFX. the rest don't come close as far as I am concenred.
Man this brings me back and when I was just in middle school and getting into high school all I had was a PlayStation one and this game final Fantasy 7
Also Sonic mania, persona 5, thunder force iv, doom/doom eternal, cuphead boss themes, mega man 9, mario kart 8 deluxe, plok SNES, mega man x1 and x4 and x5 and x6, pictionary NES, and more
I'll never forget the times when me and my father used to play this game together. I was really young, barely able to understand what even happened in the game. We were always playing it together before I had to go sleep, sometimes even a little bit longer, without my mom noticing. He'd sit on my bed with me and I was holding a big folder with lots of guide sheets, which he printed out from a wiki website about the game. I'll never forget how we used to just spend some time in Cosmo Canyon for no reason, just because we liked the music there so much. I'm really grateful for such beautiful childhood memories. Thank you dad
I remember playing through ff7 in high school, and my grandma would just listen to the music. Whenever I was in Cosmo Canyon, she'd always ask me to spend extra time there because it reminded her a little bit of the traditional music of where she was from. It was her favorite music in the whole game. She would have loved this.
@@trollcalibur7032 Masayoshi Soken is giving him a run for his money to be honest. The stuff he's doing is amazing. Then again, he did basically learn a lot of his craft from Uematsu. If Soken is the future of FF music (which he is) the franchise is in extremely good hands. He's done some beautiful arrangements of Uematsu's stuff for FF XIV (since the game has tons of references and music from the mainline games) and also done absolutely tremendous stuff on his own that is very much in spirit of the FF games. Right down to having his own band that plays his FF music, just like Uematsu has The Black Mages.
@@bubbaXzonePretty much everything in XIV, across all expansions, and kinda by extension XVI, which was done by much the same team, by my understanding.
I never knew the bababababa would suit so much with Cosmo Canyon! One of my favorites (alongside the Cornered theme of Ace Attorney) Awesome as always!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Nanaki is my favourite character in any final fantasy game. The cosmo canyon music is sacred to me. I used to walk around the area slowly so I could listen to it over and over again. You sang this one beautifully ❤
THIS BRINGS ME BACK!!!! Red XIII's personal story is so memorable and heartbreaking. Thank you for performing this song. My Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Hype is at an all time high right now.
Heartbreaking though it was, it also held a kernel of self-discovery and some profound development. As for heartbreak specifically, there is still one scene in that game that beats this one hands-down. You know which scene I speak of. My apologies for stirring those memories though...
The way you incorporated some of the slight tonal warbles from the PS1 sound hardware is an amazing little addition that puts this over the top. So good!
I never thought that peak at @1:35 could hit harder than the original version, but man, something about Smooth just makes it hit right in the heart. Amazing song!!!!! So glad to see you back!
This was the first piece of music I taught myself to play on my dad's Roland E35 synth keyboard, with both of my hands (both accompaniment and melody, with chord harmonies where I could, and using the auto drum function. It took me *months* to learn both parts, and even longer to use the pitch bend lever with my elbow for these *specific* notes you nail absolutely perfectly. This song still gives me shivers to this day, and to my surprise my hands actually remembered their positions on keys, so I had an impromptu air keyboard session. It's incredible that you were so accurate you dragged muscle memory from nearly 20 years ago back up with the sheer on-point-ness of it! Thank you for this surreal memory.
I love how faithful you are to the original compositions. It built the exact same way as the OG, and that pitch bend gives me chills no matter how many times I've heard it. One of my fav vg tracks of all time.
Really thanks Smooth! I love that song! One of the best songs from one of the best soundtracks ever! Hope you finally came back for real! Take care of your health so you can stay with us.
My best friend introduced me to this game in 97. We would play at his place since I didn't have a Playstation yet. I've since played countless thousands of hours through my 39 years. Miss you, bud.
this is my favorite ffvii song and i've been hoping for this for years 🥹 thank you for all the work you put into this, it is so beautiful ❤ you're the best, smooth!
Thanks a lot for your awesome work! Cheers from Indonesia. I've been your fan since 2018. Hope to see more of your awesome work in the future. Stay happy and Healthy. God bless you
@smooth mcgroove Hey man, big fan of the channel here. I watched through a lot of your videos and couldnt help noticing that youve covered a lot of the most popular songs from big games like mario, zelda and final fantasy. I was wondering, there doesnt seem to be a cover of Zeldas Kakariko village. Its one of my favorite songs from the Zelda series and It would be great if you could cover that. Youre content is great man, you perfecty capture every note giving me the same feels I would get growing up with these songs. Keep up the good work, youve got a subscription from me!
I have been playing the original FF7 in Steam, amazing how many memories a "simple" game can bring. Cosmo Canyon is one of my favorites, please keep going with all FF7 Sountrack, you are top notch!
I'm in the middle of replaying the OG FF7, and just got to Cosmo Canyon. Take a break, check RU-vid, and this was just uploaded. Couldn't have happened at a better time. What an amazing rendition of an amazing song!
I finally played through the original FF7 last year after completing FF7 Remake. I never had a Playstation growing up so I missed out on many of those games. Mr. McGroove did an excellent job with this.
I remember a good number of comments back when on this channel asking for this so I'm really glad for them that you went through with this beat heavy song!
Beyond excited to visit Cosmo Canyon in Rebirth and hear this amazing track again as we go and pay our respects to Seto and Nanaki finds out the truth of what happened.
He just used the red sunmoning materia for Onion Cutting Ninjas, didn't he? Got me right in the nostalgic feels this one! Great job McGroove! Love this one (and the others too of course)!!!
Well, you already know I love it. Red XIII... or Nanaki... is one of my main three when I play this game. The scene with him and Bugenhagen (where we learn more about his past) is so sad. It made me cry... still chokes me up. I can't wait to experience it in high def graphics when Rebirth comes out in February! You did this amazingly well! Thank you so much!
Just watched Elizabeth Zharoff's Final Fantasy VIII Liberi Fatali all vocal cover and thought: "Hmm! I should check in on Smooth McGroove!" Lo and behold he's back! Finally subscribed after years of listening.
This is my Birthday and FF7 is my favorite game and I am on a FF7 kick as we speak and your work is amazing and thank you for making my birthday feel a bit more special.
Owh thank you from France ! One of the coolest tracks of FF7 ost, the combination with Great Warrior Seto is one of the most emotional scenes of FF...enjoy this a capella version ❤
Yk, smooth is that kind of content creator who feels timeless, my man is consistently amazing, and theres clear passion behind what he does. I love how he does these as much as he wants to, we rep good mental health here
I don't know why, but this melody is so satisfying to me. As a kid, I remember just sitting and enjoying that music. Smooth McGroove with another classic cover where I'll found myself coming back multiple times to enjoy it 😄😁. Thanks mate ! 👍
I'm really happy because I just finished the original version on my iPhone.I'm Japanese and I'm spreading the word at your workplace! I love you so much, so please keep up the good work! !
Wow, you hit the high notes spot on dude and even held them for longer than the actual song itself. Seriously, you killed this. Fantastic rendition that brings back memories of this wonderful game. Glad I clicked on this, thank you Smooth McGroove.
Smooth McGroove, yet another hit! And as a singer myself I stand amazed at your wide vocal range. To hit those insane highs, and still have a low enough voice to do the bass. Well done indeed. Keep them coming!
Ohhh, great choice. Cosmo Canyon is one of my favorite places to visit in FF7. Great music and well interpreted. I will like (if they are good) and listen to each one of these hits as long as you make them.
So I am randomly in the mood for a Cosmo Canyon cover and I see "Smooth McGroove" 9 days ago. So great to see something new from you. And one of my favorites too...
It reminds me that you never did a cover of Final Fantasy 8 boss battle theme (Force your way), and it's a shame considering it's easily one of the most badass, energetic and loved boss battle theme of the entire Final Fantasy franchise (despite FF8 not being the most loved entry). Please! Your bababa deserves some "Force your way" 😄 (but I could understand it might be too challenging for you)
Smooth, as much as I would praise your voice and musical ability in general, I know that they are at heights I can never reach. But there is one thing you have that I may, someday, through great effort and will, achieve: A beard as glorious as yours. It is an inspiration. And great to see you having fun with this again :) I remember when you were getting burnt out, so just keep doing what's fun, Smooth. We'll be here to enjoy your music :)
