It's almost unfair to keep saying everything sounds "amazing as usual" as I am sure there is a ton of work behind this. But it is true. Your standards are sky high, and this sounds absolutely perfect. Exceeds the similar tune from the remake with ease. Great, just great!
it is fair. once you reach such a high level of performance at ANYTHING(sports, music, plumbing, or anything else) it's a lot of hard work to keep yourself performing like that. ask usain bolt.
so 2 years ago I commented "Does anyone else feel like the arrangement here is maybe a little nicer than the orchestral version? I feel like the orchestral one is overcomplicated in that it gets in the way of the really pretty harmonies going on here. The opening string part establishes a really impressionistic and colourful chord structure, and then the orchestral arrangement just barfs extra fluff all over it" on a video of the ff7 world map theme. I just wanted to paste this here because you've ABSOLUTELY done the original version justice. Maybe I'm being sentimental, but I watch your videos and always feel like somebody else "gets it". You have a knack for taking what's there, taking what's good, and really making it shine.
The orchestral version blatantly misses out on the second half or so of the theme and how it's used for one of the games climactic scenes, namely learning the truth of clouds past...and that he, as a mere trooper, managed to do what even first class SOLDIERs had failed to accomplish...and killed Sephiroth. Worse, did it through sheer WILLPOWER and refusal to say die. That portion of the theme has remained one of the most powerful pieces of music on gaming for me from that moment alone, and a lot of mixed, both orchestral and otherwise, miss the impact there to focus on being "merely an overworks theme". Their loss.
I used to love just sitting and listening to this music as a kid. It truly defined my taste in music and I became a lifelong fan of Nobuo Uematsu and JRPG tunes. One time when I was about 8 years old I was enthusiastically raving about the music and I asked my granny what she thought of it and she simply said "It sounds sad." She had lost many people in her life. She understood the core theme of loss in this game merely upon just hearing the main theme. Quite telling of what a masterpiece the soundtrack is. Now that she is gone and I am hearing your beautiful recreation of this iconic piece I really can feel what she meant when she said "It sounds sad." Thank you for bringing me this important memory 😢
Sometimes I would just leave Cloud still on the overworld for ten minutes just to listen to the whole theme. I played this game many times but I haven’t played in over 20 years. Makes me so nostalgic.
This is beautiful..You have such a knack for taking the original pieces and enhancing them without changing their essence in any way, or needlessly elaborating them. I hope you never stop doing this.
He does a very good job with mixing and panning as well; it's always tasteful and as accurate an approximation of the original as possible. For those of us guys doing covers without access to instruments like the ones he has, it's always tempting to adapt arrangements to different genres. I'm guilty of this, though I try to maintain everything note for note on stringed instruments, with constant callbacks to the originals in the way I record myself on drums.
I was so excited to record this one. It's always been a favorite of mine. I remember being so geeked to find the OST for this in high school, putting it on my iPod and just listening over and over again. I really think this was the first soundtrack that I went out of my way to find. Anyway, just watched this again for the first time since it came out. Still really good. Awesome, and it's so cool to see so many collaborations on it!
I love how this video ends visually with the saxophonist spinning in his computer chair with satisfaction. And I love that after all of those beautiful themes and motifs and imaginative, wonderfully progressive colour changes, the song somehow ends on a minor major 7th chord... and then loops perfectly back to the beginning, just like a videogame theme should. I never really appreciated it before hearing this rendition, but this is such a brilliant composition by Nobuo Uematsu.
Wow.. The original stuff always gives me goosebumps. This gives my goosebumps goosebumps. Superb. I always keep my ear out for ff7 soundtrack remakes and I find it's at times difficult to find ones that do it justice. Well done.
I love how "dry" all of these renditions are. The phrasing is absolutely perfect. The recording quality is very unadorned, which suits this very well. Props to this channel. I want to play through these games with the Orchestral Fantasy versions of these tracks.
This one looks like it would be a lot more work than many others, and yet is still a perfect recreation of how I remember the song to sound in my head. It is easily my new favourite arrangement of this piece. 11/10
I'm beyond impressed with all the videos on this channel but my God this particular one literally made me shed some tears with the nostalgia it evoked within me. Bravissimo, everyone!
Beautiful. I'm playing through Final Fantasy VII on the Switch right now and am about 50 hours in (just got done with the Temple of the Ancients... I play slow and deliberate). Perfect timing for this!
Don't care if it's my 3rd comment. I gotta say this - it's amazing what a few people pulled off that many orchestras could not...a truly perfect translation!
Oof, isn't this something I've been looking for for years?! I can't stop my head shaking from excitement iN the whole video duration! KyaaAAAHH!!! AWESOMELY AMAZING GUYS!!!
From 3:45 onwards is always my most favorite part and you NAILED it. I loved when they sampled this in the game during the scene at the Nibelheim reactor and I was waiting for that moment in your version and WOW, you're all so talented. Squenix needs to hire ALL of you; this is how it's done.
Jus wanted to let you know that I got sent over here by Nerrel. The sheer quality earned you one of my ultra-rare subs. Good grooves, and can't wait for more.
Uematsu-sensei MUST hear this perfect rendition! I've been waiting a few years for you to tackle this one & you all did it right! This should definitely need put in the next chapter of FF7R
I always click when I see a new video from this channel, great work as always, you show these tracks real love, and it shows in the music and in watching you play
WHAT is this sorcery, it sounds basically identical to the original version! With the quality of acoustic instruments. Unbelievable. This is truly THE definitive, "final" version of this song. Huh, someone get me a doctor, I think I'm having a stroke here. Actually don't need one, I can die happily as my life is complete now ♥️
You really did it justice- thank you man. Now we need your covers on itunes because many of us would have these on our playlists mowing our lawns and such 😊.
Absolutely heavenly. Amazing work by everyone involved!! Have you ever considered doing a video with everyone/every instrument on screen at the same time?
Thank you for creating these musical time capsules. I know it must be tedious and time consuming, but the result speaks for itself. Beautiful. Also, I'm so sorry youtubes algorithm is trash. More people should hear this... Many more.
I have been pretty stressed the last few months (like many) and I stumbled upon this channel and just had the most peaceful dinner in a very long time just listening to this absolutely stunning composition of one my favorite themes. Thank you so much.
Wow you guys. This is on level with the concert hall orchestration, that you all did this from home is just mind-blowing. Tear to my eye performance *standingly ovates*
So pretty, you guys did great! I'll share all I can with who I know for you talented people to get your names out! Simply a magically song and you all did it perfect justice. Thank you.
Beautiful rendition all, loving the shelter-in-place team work. I never played this game much, but my little brother did. And this was still really enjoyable.
its not mine either- but it was the first rpg and my first ff game. this album and a few others in the series are basically perfect. 7 ,10, and 12 listen to those soundtracks with good headphones. theyre elevate their games like john williams elevated movies
I can be pretty harsh on FF7 at times, but I too have always loved this theme. I hope the remake efforts pay off in a big way, because I would kill to see SquareEnix remake FF6, the REAL masterclass in JRPGs.
