I like how Jesse was like "if you haven't done sidequests yet, its teaching you how to do them now" but then he shows that he still didn't know how to use the chocobo scent. Lol it did it's job.
Friendly chocobo treasure hunting tip: when you are holding the d pad to sniff, simultaneously turn your bird towards the direction of the arrow that pops up. The scent line or spot will show fairly quickly
Looks like he might've gotten that this video but 100% in the ones up to this point he was definitely just tapping the button instead of holding it down
this is the perfect game and playthrough to have on your second monitor as you do other things. that way i can tune in for the juicy lore and character interactions but kind of ignore jesse doing sit ups and swearing for 30 minutes xD
I love Jesse's answer to "What FF should I start with?" and really puts out there that "there's a Final Fantasy for everyone." ... but what I loved most was describing 15 as "Boy's trip gone wrong", it had me laughing out loud.
when I finally beat Jules (by one or two I don't remember) it was on my last "if I don't get it this time SCREW IT I'll come back later" attempt...truly the hardest minigame
Yeah that mini game was so frustrating😅. I literally had to put a blanket on Jules side of the screen because I keep getting distracted by his number of situps.
This mini-date with Aerith is actually one of my favourite side quests, Cloud's and Aerith's banter is just the most entertaining thing ever 😂 Actually a lot of their interactions are my favourite.
the rare Aerith enjoyer brightening my day is2g with these people being like "the game just rubs it in that Cloud and Aerith don't get along" like wow chill. they're cute

The thing about the Shinra helicopter is that there's not a lot of people who could have called an evac by helicopter. Imo, down the line we're gonna see that it's something that happened because of Cloud, making all Sephiroth gaslighting worse in hindsight
While I agree that the 'first one you played is often your favorite' rule tends to be the case I can honestly say it's not really so for me with Final Fantasy. Mind you my first was all the way back to Final Fantasy 1 so I don't know how much that plays into that, but still played it a ton and in the years actually went really hard into the old-school pixally side of FF. Of those FF6 is definitely one of my favorites, but even then I wouldn't say it's my favorite Final Fantasy overall. My definitive favorite would have to be 9. Not just for the throwbacks (though sure, that may play a part of it), but just the characters, the story, the setting, just everything about it really got to me more then any FF before or since.
I expected more questions from Yuffie, like why are we climbing towers? And where was the reaction from her when you meet the moogles? She has the costume after all

I have to say this playthrough is slightly triggering. Jesse keeps creating amazing upgrades...and never putting them on, runs right past rabbits without calling out his chocobo, and in general has zero spatial awareness about his surroundings. Having watched him play games for years I am somewhat disappointed.
The minigames are almost always fun ideas made incredibly frustrating in Square Enix games, and apparently that isn't something they are changing. x'D But the card games are usually fun and simple, except for IX's, even after 100%ing the card collection I never understood how that game worked.
For as much as it is a common problem with sequels I have to say I'm a bit disappointed they went the route of bringing back a ton of the NPCs from the first part of the game. A few are fine, but like with bringing back so many of the Wall Market people? That feels almost lazy, I would go as far as to say for some of them it feels out of character. These are people that live in the SLUMS after all, yet here they are opening new businesses or vacationing in tropical resorts halfway across the world. Even with Roche coming back I felt a bit disappointed, a big part of his interest was the fact that we finally got to see more SOLDIERs other than Sephiroth and the like, it would have been so neat to see that expanded on even more but nope instead here's just this one same guy again. Don't get me wrong most of them ARE fun characters, but when you do this sort of thing too much it often ends up making the world feel very very small.
I love all the steamers that are like man stuff dies too fast. Ok well stop adding damage buffs and accessories and play on Dynamic. Basic enemies still die quick like the OG but i am always surprised when people are surprises when they flood damage ups that things die quicker 😂

Gaslight-oriented pep talk 😂 3:30:48 The white materia still seems to be "powered up" in Zack's timeline (and it's really weird it's the opposite in the other timeline). 3:34:42 "What if one character doesn't make it, but is replaced by another character for reasons" That's the first thing I thought when I saw Aerith unconscious in Zack's timeline (some kind of equivalent exchange/monkey's paw situation). 3:38:20 "Three ex-SOLDIERs, ready to join the cause" Those would be Glenn Lodbrok, Matt Winsord and Lucia Lin from Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier and Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis (so here's a bit of the "Kingdom Hearts" effect again). 3:47:48 Yeah, they made a point of exposing the dangers of mako poisoning in Crisis Core (Cloud basically went into a coma for months because of it, and extreme levels of mako can turn humans into mutants/makonoids), so it's an important plot point. 4:25:30 "I played FF13" I found basically two kinds of result on that topic: either people saying the chocobo making a nest out of Sazh's hair was racist, or people confirming Jesse's impŕession (that the Barret scene had to be a reference to Sazh). 4:51:20 "They're really trying to make the player (who's played FF7 before) think that Sephiroth is right" Not quite, since Sephiroth's not exactly a good guy (so even if he can make us doubt certain things, he still remanins the chraracter you should doubt the most).
Yeah, combat is monotonous enough without the repeating banter. So removing it is moving in the right direction. I'm still skipping the long battles though.
