Eh, I just skipped Yakuza until things slow down, and Ive played P3 multiple times before, so I’m just playing it on the side. FF7 Rebirth comes before everything except Warhammer The Old World on tabletop
I don't give a single damn about environmental objects being lower quality in the distance and higher up close since that is a common way to retain overall quality around you and frames, but most importantly, it allows us to get these insanely beautiful character models
Just stumbled onto your review from my suggested videos. Gotta say, this is the only review I’ll be sharing with my friends. Really well put together, no spoilers, and an honest reaction. Good work!
I for one am looking forward to spending 20 hours at the gold saucer. And queensblood definitely has my interest piqued. I'm for sure excited to see how the story plays out this time around, but I also plan on taking my time through this world. A slow mosey rather than a sprint to the finish.
My FF backlog is daunting to say the least. Finishing up Remake now to start Rebirth next week. I've bought most every FF single player game (except 13) over the last year and have only finished X. So that leaves 1-6 pixel remasters, 7, 8, 9, X-2, 15, 16 and Crisis Core. I am thinking after I finish Rebirth and 16 that I will tackle the other titles every other or every third game that I play. Might get through them by 2026.
This review to me is the point where Alex has gone from part time RU-vidr to full time professional. The opportunity he’s had with this review is ginormous and the quality is some of the best I’ve ever seen from him. Yet you can see the pressure of having to tackle Granblue Fantasy ReLink, Persona 3 Reload, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth all in one month. The later two being designed to play across multiple months. I feel sad he wasn’t able to 100% Rebirth before the review came out because as a full time RU-vidr I would assume it will be hard for him to go back and do so, but as a fan getting such great coverage of these games in a timely manner is a win.
Oh I'm still playing Rebirth! There's really nothing else coming until Unicorn Overlord, and I'm pretty sure I won't be getting it early! So I still have time - and even time to make a guide for Queen's Blood too! I said this elsewhere, but I don't ever play or talk about games if I'm not the least bit excited about them! And even though other games are coming out, this game's placement in the Ribbon Rank shows that I'll still be playing this game alongside others throughout the year! I'm trying to decide whether to 100% everything in THIS playthrough or start over on Dynamic in the next and do it all over again!
After 130 hours finally done my first playthrough, with all regions fully explored and 90% mini games and sidequests done. I'd give it a 9.5 (-0.5 for graphics) without mini games and Gongaga region and a 5 with them. The game is completionist's nightmare😂 Most of my JRPG friends are completionists so it draws tons of hate within my little community. But I do believe it would provide a much better experience for those who don't care about those stuff. Now I really need a long break before 2nd playthrough on hard difficulty to platinum it~ I really need Yuffie's song to heal my exhaust😅
I hear everyone complain about Gongaga but I much prefer it over Cosmo Canyon. I just can't get the hang of the gliding chocobo stuff. I actually abandoned trying to 100% the game because of it.
I'm am incredibly excited for this game, I've heard next to nothing bad. This is my favorite review I've seen, really like the flow of it.The more I hear about the world and everything, the more I worry about how they will manage to make it fresh for the third one though! Personally, I am more toward the completionist side of things so it could get repeatative to retread all the same ground again.
The crafting system far more reminds me of the Moogle Synthesis system in the Kingdom Hearts games then anything else. Glad to see it implemented here to account for farming and drops
Next friday couldn’t come soon enough!! I nearly beat Persona 3 Reload now. This year gonna be amazing for RPG fans (but exhausting too, because RPG games took really long time to beat😂)
Great review! As someone who has been cursed with my save of FF7 being deleted 7 hours in I haven't gone back to finish it. Looking forward to this one.
Dude I gotta stop watching these reviews there getting me too excited and we STILL have another week to wait for the full release! D: Why do i do this too myself? AlSO you just described what I felt when I was talking to someone about just how massive things feel in the game like I never felt that way with a game before and had me in such a wonder.
I'm glad you're thinking of scale as well! I remember the first time I ever felt like things were massive was back when I played Ocarina of Time for the first time! And now, the scale in Rebirth is even larger than that! Truly amazing! (And the wait will be worth it!)
Pre ordered. Picking it it up Thursday at noon as that’s when my GameStop opens but I work 2nd shift 🤦♂️ 3-11:30 so I won’t really be able to play till Saturday morning…I wish the materia from the demo carried over…
Thanks for the review. I am totally onboard with your line of thinking when in comes to the graphics. People that complain about a single door in a vast world need to get over themselves. I do not care if there is some bland textures in the world or if some graphics take a little too long to render in the game. To me, that is such nitpicky nonsense.
New sub. I cant wait to lose myself into the world of Gaia. Ill definitely be taking it slowly and i know i have to stay away from spoilers so i am glad to listen and watch to your review
Of the 17 minutes of this review, only 9 minutes are gameplay! And most of it's just combat and menus! No major story beats are spoiled at all in the video!
@BacklogBattle That's why I'm enjoying it. More technical stuff. Thank you! I played OG back in 1997, then Remake, bought a PS5 for Intergrade, now playing Crisis Core... lol and all in time for Rebirth. Got a day off from work too. I won't be out of Grasslands until 100% either
@BacklogBattle Also, I like to switch off as much UI as possible (did with demo) is there anyway to get rid of the command menu icon at the bottom left?
Probably the only detractors this game would have are those wanting a simple HD remaster/1:1 to the OG just with visual, audio flourishes ans QoL. It's just sad how they'll easily disregard all the efforts put in this game and call it phoned in, or dismiss it as something that wasn't needed. 😔 Anyway, I really like how you based your review on how it made you feel! I typically prefer this kind of remake, similar to the Resident Evil ones - - very different and very familiar. I get a higher sense of nostalgia that way.
I'm through 2 playthroughs and am preparing for a third. I just can't get enough of this world and these characters. After Remake, I lamented that we didn't get the whole game at once. I actually really like Remake duevto Biggs, Wedge and Jessie becoming full fledged characters with depth and personalities. But ai digress. Rebirth made me want to stay in that world as long as possible as much as it made me want to race through the story. My only real complaints were the character faces outside of cutscenes (and even in a couple of them) and the minimum character specific traversals. I really wish you could have swapped characters during explorations and have those obstacles present in other areas. Things like Red XIII's wall clumbing or Barret shooting obstacles. I would rate this game a 9.5.
@@BacklogBattlejust finished it, wow what a game. With out any spoilers, the whole story from start to finish made so much sense to me. I can understand where the writer is going with this.
What is it about this game that gets me emotional?! I'm not an emotional man, but dammit watching people just speak of this world, these characters, and this instalment just gets me choked up. Im both demos I've had to stop and compose myself at random times i wouldn't have expected.
I wonder... I really want to avoid spoilers and I'll definitely play this game more than once. Would you recommend b-lining the main story then doing all the side content in the next playthrough?
Dynamic basically adjusts the difficulty of the game depending on how well you do during combat. So the more you lose, the more it eases up on difficulty. The better you do, the more difficult it becomes. As far as fun goes, it all depends. Do you like being challenged? Do you like being forced to learn the game's systems to do better? If you answered yes to both, then Dynamic is for you!
Can you confirm if the demo is using an older build because for me the resolution in performance mode looks really bad and muddy. Especially compared to ff7 remake.
Did you play 30fps or 60fps? Because Rebirth demo in performance looks worse than Remake graphically. Is it worth playing in 30fps and does the performance mode look better graphically than the demo?
I personally prefer Graphics over Performance. There’s a fallacy going around where games are less responsive in Graphics. While the game updates frames less, it is still polling the same amount of times for input as it does Performance. The frames drawn are the only difference. That said, I played the entire game via Graphics and haven’t thought of using Performance even once.
Unfortunate but it's been nearly 4 years, you need to move on. This is how consoles work. Current gen hardware should be the focus rather than old gen. Otherwise get a PC that can last decades and play every game from generation to generation.
I’m glad that they couldn’t include the ps4 version on both game, FF16 barely keep fps at 60 outside of combat, and FF7Rebirth image quality is quite blurry. You’ll see that even though they exclusively for ps5 the games still struggle to run properly, imagine if they’ve to optimize this game to old console like ps4.
The game looks awesome but there is no way that I'm going to buy a PS5 just to play this an the previous one ans honestly I don't like the combat system, there modern JRPGs that nailed the turn base combat system is sad that square just abandon it, I guess I will play it in a few years that is I the next Nintendo or Xbox. Great video BTW, I got the pixel remaster for switch so I will be playing all of those as FFIV was the first one I ever played.
Can you give me an example of a modern JRPG that has a turned base system closer to the FF7 for the playstation one? I think they are going for realism here and it's more than just a remake. It's literally a rebuilt game how they would do FF7 if it were made in 2020 and not 1997.
I can think of a few: 1. Hearing of criticisms of Remake, some might just choose to go for Rebirth and know that they’ll enjoy it more, story and characters be damned. 2. OG FFVII fans who can be caught up via The Story So Far, allowing them to play Rebirth with the appropriate context 3. Gameplay centric players who don’t care about the story or characters (they are out there)
