You are using auto protect. Thats fine. The 4th slot i consider the wild card. You can put that were ever suits your character best. Your second armour has the 3 key skills i would not battle without. Auto protect like i was saying is useless because if you cant survive an attack with break hp limit then how are you going to survive an attack with a smaller health bar and nothing but a damage reduction of 50 %. I have had yuna to 78 000 hp and she still gets one shotted and takes 4 turns to fully heal using doublecast. How would you regen at 300 hp per turn going to save you while you get wrecked by the fact your missing key armour skills you replaced for hp and protect. 30% hp skill would be better then regen. This is my point right here. Haste doubles your attack damage by doubling turn rate. Ribbon makes one immune to everything but zombie and curse. Auto phoenix brings dead members back without costing a turn and sometimes does it twice in a row bringing back 2 members basically a free mega phoenix that didnt even take a turn to use and then you put protect on that armour when there dps exceeds our ability to stay alive. You havent put a value to the armour slots before filling the so your essentially reduced there capabilties and told every how to play like your an expert. Now i just assume all the end bosses one hit you and plan accordingly and thats over powered. You started from a weak view of make it strong enough and now you need multiple armour sets. You just need one mate.
Butterflies are super easy compared to the other 2 though. There are maps with the exact path to follow which is really helpful. Never spent more that about 20 minutes on that part with said maps.
I am currently playing this game and I did those minigames on the same day. I remeber struggling a lot with the chocobo race when I was a kid but this time it took me probably something like 10 tries. I did the lighting dodging on my first try using the pillar trick, it took me around 20 minutes, I was impressed with how easy it was. I struggled a bit with the butterflies but once you get the pattern, it's not that complicated.
Butterflies are simple. Lightning strikes are the worst just because it's time consuming. I can get a 0.0 almost religiously. There are very specific paths to run and the only reason you might lose is rng on balloon positioning.
Even until this year, players are still talking about replaying FF X, either with speedrun, no sphere grid, or other thing you can think. The Bahamut abuse for speedrun or grind 99999 HP for NSG Dark Aeons and bring new strategy for NSG playthrough.
@@veeshadow jrpgs like this are just insanely more replayable than any other game out. Wether its just for fun or story or a challenge like a speedrun etc
I still remember my first dark aeon encounter without knowing what they were. Thunder plains, thought I found a secret when i saw a guy standing there that I'd never noticed and boom,I learned what Thundaja is.
Mine was going back to Besaid to see the village before I finished the game and dark Valefor smashed me! Then I learned just how much of a grind this game is 😂
Mine was Shiva, I wanted to see if I could go back to Macalania temple. (went there after Bevelle) I first thought she was supposed to be unbeatable, just to prevent you from going back in there. (which really seemed that way cause she could attack 3 times, dealing max damage, before I even got a single turn)
This is definitely the best guide I have seen on RU-vid. Thank you for putting this together for us. Making all these clips, editing, and adding all the captions probably took you days, if not weeks. Thanks for helping out the FFX community :)
I'm just listening to this in the background and need to say that you CAN save in between Dark Yoji battles and continue onto the next one, it's just that if you die on one of them and reload the save, the Dark Yoji battles reset. That is all, continue with your FFX awesomeness
Love your background story of creating this channel and your ongoing dedication to keep uploading videos of such high quality, your definitly one of my favourite content creators and I wish you the best on your journey of becoming a director, I know you’ll make it!
Dude, thank you. This is the first time I've even gotten to Penance let alone beat it, and I've been playing this game since it first came out hahaha. Never occurred to me before that Luck was so important! Won't be long now until I get the Platinum 😁
Subbed!! FFX was the first game I played where after 40 hours, I was still having fun with it. It's also the first game I hit 300 hours in that wasn't an MMO. Your guides are fantastic.
I was doing Dark Valefor fight last night, he wasn't such a pushover asi thought I defeated him, and to my surprise, he dropped a 4 slot armor WITH Ribbon for Wakka, my jaw dropped, because i was thinking on doing Dark Yojimbo Dark Matter farming, this will make things so much easier now I love the guide, there are pretty good tips and tricks here.
fantastic timing. Just got into postgame on my plat run, just prepping to get into these guys. Thanks as always for your wisdom & entertaining content, and continuing to keep this masterpiece alive. Side note... as I love all your playlists, its funny to see you on other LP's run around with barebones knowledge but you turn into encyclopedia mode when FF X is involved!
Theres no way im going to attempt this but I had to say other RU-vid channels should take notes on your set up / layout. The gameplay with the attached notes is awesome lol.
Dark Ixion also has the most accurate attack in the game with aerospark at 290, so as long as you have… 35 luck and 255 evasion… 255 luck and 35 evasion… 145 luck and 145 evasion… 90 luck and 200 evasion… Or any combination of luck and evasion that adds up to 290… You’re dodging any attack in the game no problem-o, daddy-o… (Especially with evade and counter)
I remember back when I played FF X on my second run I had over 500 hours played and never got to beat Penance. It was too overwhelming but back in the day things were tougher without RU-vid walkthroughs.
Not sure if someone else has brought this to your attention, but there is a way to get over that Ultra NullAll not filling the overdrive bar problem. As you stated, Eccentric is the way to get your charge up, but you can also stack it with Hot Spurs. This completely removes the cheer issue in Ultra NullAll. Yes it's another mix to worry about, but it does help a lot in the second part of the fight. Thanks for such a detailed guide, good to see such hard work being put to good use.
I think I first stumbled upon your videos two years ago. It made me want to go back and play FFX again. I usually replay it at least once a year, but have never done the dark aeons, nemesis, or pennance. I got tired of the game by the time I captured all the monsters last time, but this time my interest didn't fade. Took me three tries, but I beat pennance for the first time today. Thanks for all your tutorials. I never would have had the patience to figure out these things on my own. Love the channel man.
Your timing is ridiculous. Just re-started my FFX-Plat run a few day's ago and binge watched your lets play serie (currently in postgame and almost got the jupiter sigil). So this complete video will help a lot.
Even though this vid was uploaded 4 years ago now, thank you very much for all these tutorials. I've been watching your videos during my whole playthrough because this game tests my patience, and you've really helped a lot. Much appreciated 😘
Hey Dansg. Great channel and great conteny as always. Been following your channel and subscribed to it 2 years ago. Keep up the excelent work. Greetings from Brazil. Have a great year.
The fact that you indicate the right stats to be able to defeat them and have some fun challenge is priceless. I went full maxed out and didn’t had any fun with the first 4 aeons. Quality content there
great video. just sat and watched the whole thing. ive played ffx ever since i was a very young child and the game has been with me for many years. my favorite final fantasy game and one of my favorite games of all time. ive never managed to break through all of the dark aeons and fight penance but this video might be what i need to finally do it. with this game releasing on the switch im going to replay and finally really attempt to get through them and beat penance. your passion for this game is truly inspiring. thank you.
I love FFX it is my favorite game. You're videos are the best i've seen. I watch them over and over just to get my dose. You ofte talk about game mechanics ( drop rates, attack level, how the game determines different things). Is there a guide that explains all of this? Maybe a video of how you came to know these things :).
Had to make sure I liked this. Your guide helped me out a ton with Penance! I'm still working on beating the 3 magus sisters at once, but for now thanks for all your help!
Wow! The amount of time and detail you have put into this guide is amazing! This is the definition of a great guide! Thank you for taking the time to make such an informative video! Now I'm off to go kill Earth Eater for 2 hours :P
I remember back in day we would have FF parties. Doing shifts of training in the monster arena to max out the grid just to attempt these elite bosses. Summer holidays was wild
i like that you encourage the challenge of these battles. i just found an old save on PS+ that i thought was lost, and im getting my last few platinums this week.
Okay so I like to do my "post game" stuff before the boss battle. I just beat Yunalesca and am now flying around Spira capturing fiends for the monster arena. I never looked up where the dark aeons are located because I didn't want spoilers... terrible idea because I ran into Dark Valefor and Dark Magus Sisters by accident and my stats are crazy low. Didn't even stand a chance LOL LOL I love how you call Dark Valefor as "the baby". This stupid bird annihilated me! You are so detailed with your guides, I love it. I can't wait to use your techniques when I finally take on the dark aeons myself :)
Came back to say the same, I still watch it plenty! Always get in the mood to do some FFX and when I do I know I'm going to go for these. Love watching it just to appreciate your information!
Eric Mills playing over, doing side quests now. Was doing the Cactuar Village, and ran into Dark Ifrit...was not a happy moment...especially running into the Dark Magus Sisters an hour after 🙃
Now...think you are strong and don't have to worry about saving and just spent 3 hours catching those damn monsters and heading to that area to get the final ones....and stumble onto him.
That addition in the International version was done pretty well, storywise... BUT IT STILL STINGS GAMEPLAYWISE THANK GOODNESS YOU CAN DODGE SOME OF THEM AND THAT I SAVE PRETTY OFTEN
I love your channel, I used to play this game when I was a teenager. I look at your videos to remind me of the good old days with my PS2. My PS2 broke down with my data on it with 400 hours of playing this game. I am done with that game but from now and then I like to see the dark aeons, I like to see the strategy of how other players have done it. Very informative and clear thank you for sharing your passion with us youtube viewers! You're the best!
I’m currently replaying ffx and am getting all the celestial weapons. I’ve never fought the dark aeons before and had no idea bahumat was there. So, while searching for the chest with rikkus crest, I ran into the al bhed lady, had no idea what she said when I talked to her, gave me the option of yes or no, I hit yes, quick cut scene looking over the cliff, starting walking thinking I was just okay to pass her and keep going on my search and then I’m fighting him. One hitted all of my guys and I had forgotten to save after I got the cloudy mirror. Fml
Yikes. Valefor got me once. It wasn't that I forgot about her being in Besaid, it was her pulling out Energy Ray as a normal attack. I wasn't prepared for that shit. Went back to get Jecht's sphere for Auron and got blown up lol.
I have to be honest mate... Back in my FFX hey day, I seriously thought I was an an FFX God. In truth, I was only an expert.... The version I had wasnt the jp international. So I didn't even know about dark aeons or P Penance. It wasn't until over ten years later that I even learned about them. And thanks to you I have an awesome treasure trove of strategies that have helped me along the way. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated!
According to the Wikipedia page on Penance, the right and left arms have the SAME agility actually. The apparent discrepancy can be resolved if you realize that, initially, the arm's agility is 150. After its first turn, the arm's agility increases to 255. Not that it matters much, but just wanted to point it out. Fantastic video by the way, thanks!
When FFX came out, I dedicated 4 years to that game. Over 500 hundred hours worth of game play on a single game. Now that they came out with the remastered version, definitely will do it again.
I can’t get over how good this video is, even though I’ve watched a ton of your videos and know how good you are. This video has to be the best of yours I’ve seen. Thank you so much! Your love and deep understanding of this game is inspiring.
This is why I love Penance. You can't make any mistakes. Took me about 37 mins to beat him and I died a lot. But I like going into bosses blindly to see if I can take them on with my max team before making changes to beat them efficiently.
Fantastic video man. Your Final Fantasy X playthrough in general was fantastic and I really enjoyed it, but these videos for the Arena/ Species/Original Creations and this one for the Dark Aeons were just superb. One thing that you didn't mention is that if your Evasion + Luck is over 290 your character(s) can avoid Dark Ixion 1's counterattack in the first battle. That's not going to be applicable for low level/lower stat attempts but it's interesting to note, and is why 290 Luck + Evasion is quoted as the combined figure to go for. Like I said, superb video man.
youtube finally suggested something useful. this vid! im literally farming yojimba rn. already beat half the aeons. ive beat penance twice before, but im looking for alternate strategies.
I remember I Zanmatou'ed every single one of the Dark Aeons except the fifth Dark Yojimbo. He never did Zanmatou no matter how much I paid him. He always onehit my whole party so I gave it up back then xD Guess after twenty years I should give it a try again!
I beat Penance back in the day with a modded PS2... pretty sure I had to have BHPL and ribbon on all three characters. Good guide! Kudos for doing it the hard way!
Well, I never knew these existed. Thankfully I clicked on this video right after the HD version finished downloading. Now I know what I have to look forward to....
About dark yojimbo i have two things to add to: 1.) You can prevent Daigoro from shattering your characters and ejecting them from battle, if you dont have Stone-Proof or Ribbon armor, by having a Luck-stat of 85 or more. When you have 85 Luck, it will only petrify you without shattering you and you also wont be poisoned since you can't be poisoned and petrified at the same time. You will also only need to use Aim 3 times to have a 98% chance of hitting him consistently with only base accuracy ;) 2.) In order to survive Wakizashi without BHPL is by using the same armor you would use against Penance without BHPL, which is - Auto-Haste - Auto-Protect - Defense +20% - Auto-Potion (not really nessesairy against Dark Yojimbo but since you want to use that setup against Penance, there is no harm adding it for later) Without cheer Wakizashi will do arround 8800-9500 DMG to your party. I did these two things multiple times in multiple playthroughs on multiple versions and never even once D. Yojimbo killed me or shattered any of my party members ;)
Been following your walk through and it’s been amazeballs im nearly there on my team just working on the kick stat so I’m just farming fortune spheres as of tomorrow. Thank fully during my luck sphere grind I’ve accumulated 49 dark matter so I should be there by the time I’ve grinded out my fortune spheres
Not seeking advice just love your FFX video's - probably a nostalgia factor for ffx but also how you approach your videos. havent watched it fully yet but allready like it allot thanks mate keep up the good work :D.]
The stages of RPG gaming Running When you’re outclassed (wrong place?) Struggling When you’re underleved (it will pass) Grinding When you’re even leveled (because reasons?) Stomping When you’re overleved (backtracking/farming?) In this game, you have fun in every stage! Hence I bought it again on Switch:)
I saw you didn’t mention that you can block wakizashi. Saved me more than a few times!! If you defend instead attack it does a little over half your health instead of all of it.
Easiest strategy would be to just grab everyone's Celestial Weapons and Max stats. If you're new to FFX it may take a little longer but if you know what you're doing it would take 2 days tops to max 3 of your characters and just give Auron his Celestial weapon and all battles you'll get to make the first move and after you've maxed stats, you can Quick Hit farm Dark Yojimbo and after you get his gear that's it, that's all you need and these bosses are all made easy.
Oh wow, I'm beyond ready for this fight. I just capped out my defense and magic defense stats, I might not even need to use an Aeon, but I'll use Magus and Anima anyway :) I'm sure you know about the Monster Arena, but you need to several copies of every monster in Spira for the arena, get like over 5 of every monster, and the arena dude will have clear spheres for purchase, so what I did, was I cleared the defense +1 stats for the +4 equivalent, and yup, hit 255 defense, and magic defense pretty quick. And the Special Conquest species drop the stat spheres, one per fight. gil isnt a problem, they also drop really nice weapons, that you can just sell for gil, so you can sit in front of the arena pretty much forever farming stat spheres.
recently purchased this game again. I beat it when I was younger but never did the monster arena or legit beat the dark aeons. Think I will attempt again and refer back to this video if i need help..........WHEN i need help. Edit: 2 years later and I'm back
Awesome! I fought the 3 magus sisters combined last night and Lulu tore the last two sisters to pieces with Ultima. Sentinel can defend against Camisade, yeah the character taking the hit will die, but you can keep the MP hit for getting applied to a character. In my battle last night I had Khimari sentinel while Lulu doublecast Ultima, and he ate at least 4 or 5 Camisades targeted at Lulu (and her auto-phoenix would revive him).
I had 255 luck 255 accuracy 255 evasion on everyone lol. I did the luck last and just never removed the acc/evasion because the only thing i would replace them with is magic and mp (which for my playthrough are both useless). Yiu may think im a madman for doing earth eater and greater sphere that much but the strat i used to beat them was quite fast...wakka solo with deathproof+death ward. Both die in 2 attack reels. Just defend x3 to fill overdrive bar
This video has taught me I have far too much patience - I grinded for gil so I could mass-bribe for Megalixirs - I grinded for a final Ribbon - I grinded my luck to max I regret these things, but not because of the time investment. It was actually pretty short because I used both HD's Turbo and the version from UnX. I even customized armors for luck grinding so I could just leave auto-battle on during the fights. None of it was worth it, though. Ribbon is only REALLY helpful in like 2 of the battles at high stats, and it's more fun to suffer at the hands of Doom × Sleep anyway
