It’s really cathartic and inspiring to see him grow like that. Like watching a boy become a man.

Current wow yes. But wow in its hay day still would have more subs than current ffxiv. Ffxiv has insane story where wow is all combat. Different games

Indeed. No matter how different their game genre, whether it's an MMO, action without rpg elements like FFXVI, and different settings and characters. Square will always tell a consistently great story and compose emotional soundtracks as the heart of Final Fantasy and to ours as well.

It would be great if I could actually hear what they are all saying. The music is way to loud

just started my journey a few days ago, after trying to get into the game for the past few months and giving up. now i'm finally enjoying myself

Finished Endwalker recently, I've never liked the ideas of mmorpgs but damn am I enthralled in this game.

This is my first time seeing it and I'm like, wait, is this why there's still a realm? It didn't make sense to me why Louisoix sent them into the future if there was no one left. It would make sense why they would want to re-trap Bahamut because it was bent on destroying everything. So it made sense to me that after Louisoix was apparently (not) vaporized that Bahamut destroyed everything.

That cutscene you only see during the coil of Bahamut raid at a certain point but i wont say where to avoid spoilers :)

I was a day one player and left for years. Got back into it and I'm almost ready to get into Heavensward. Also playing with friends (4 others). It's a blast. Just be mindful of the old content, after you've finished that part and start doing the patches up until Heavensward it keeps getting better and better. There's also alot to do, so yeah you won't get bored easily. Hf!

but even alone this game is playable

I *just* reached Heavensward this week, while my wife has cleared all the way through end of Shadowbringers. As long as you are enjoying the journey, you're doing it right. We'll get to the new content when we get there.

@@MovadoMj It starts out slow but gets more interesting as you advance the story. I recommend just doing the main story quests (MSQs) to get through Realm Reborn.

Ya i wish you could actually hear the characters in Endwalker

FF XIV is actually really Casual friendly. I am a full time worker, husband and father of two only play it for like 2-3 hours on some days per week when the kids are asleep. Maxed out all jobs and crafter/gathers and apart from ultimate and some savage fights did most of what the game has to offer. You can really play it at your own speed. :)

This game really respects your time in a lot of ways. The only thing mandatory to keep up with is the main story. Everything else you can come in and leave whenever you like and get caught up easily when you come back. Dev team will often tell players to take breaks and come back when you have more you want to enjoy

Game is mostly casual friendly till you get to end game, what won't happen for a long long time.

well the good thing about FFXIV is that it's nothing like WoW or Diablo 2...it's better :D

Incidentally, just found out that one of those friends of mine dropped WoW a couple of weeks back and jumped on the FFXIV train. xD

I'm honestly more surprised you managed to play for that long if you didn't like it! The people that argue about time played being important are dumbing it down a lot because there are a lot of variables, but also (I guess for future games since you already put the 250 into this one) if after a few hours you still don't enjoy a game, its fine to put it down and say it's not for me. Initially I put this game away after 30 minutes because the graphics were really off-putting to me and Lalafell are too weird for me. Picked it up a few months later and only then started to kind of enjoy it for a few hours. Then a couple weeks later picked it back up and got into it. It's different for everyone but never feel forced to do something for 100 hours because "that's when it gets good". If its not enjoyable within the first few hours its not good enough to continue a vast majority of the time. It's better to lose out on the money spent (if you did spend money on a game) rather than spending time. One can always make more money but our time is limited. That said if you want to give a review of a game then yea maybe around 100 hours is enough experience in an mmo to give a full overview and review for others . As for the "good" part - it depends on what you're comparing this with. If you compare it to single player rpgs you will find yourself wanting. I'd put it in low mid tier if you are going at strictly from a single player mode experience. There are better Final Fantasy games for that, lol. Also a lot about managing expectations. The game is pretty good with a lot of issues but if all you read/hear is "OMG BEST GAME EVER!" then you'll just be disappointed the whole time cause it's not that at all. I definitely felt that affect my experience and not just for FFXIV but any well marketed game that doesn't deliver (I'm thinking cyberpunk or no man's sky which are actually decent games now but the marketing made them out to be so much more such that once people got the buggy game it was complete garbage in comparison to the marketing and that'll sour the experience well after the bug fixes and additional content eventually happen) If you're comparing this game to other mmorpgs than yea it's pretty amazing, probably one of the best in the market currently. Most mmorpg have kinda janky poorly put together story if any at all and either a dying player base or a toxic player base. MMORPG players do not want to play games that are "dying". FFXIV seems to have an actually cool story (though it is a slog to get through), developers that actually communicate with the player base and a mostly kind player base though toxic in their own way. A lot of this is elements that aren't even the game itself. tldr: 100 hours argument dumb, if game not fun in few hours why play more. Marketing changes expectations causing good game to feel bad cause it doesn't do everything that marketing made it out to be. Even if marketing is just people praising the game. Comparing this game to other mmorpg and not rpg is what makes it appear great. Anyway hope you find games you enjoy! =)

I would love an honest review of your 250 hours. I've played every MMO but maybe 4 or 5 that have been released, mained WoW since the original closed beta testing, and always bounced back to 3 games: EQ2 (nostalgia for EQ but way out of date to the point even nostalgia can't take me back to the OG), SWTOR (great story design, but a dead endgame), and FFXIV which I've fully committed to back in April). I agree, a lot of the stuff that is being passed as Good nowadays is really disappointing. It's us, the gamers, that allowed it for the past 10 years. We lowered our expectations which allowed studios to release mostly beta phased games because investors and players have no concept of patience. But I still would like to know what drew to the aggressive determination you came with after 250 hours. No game is for everyone, but the way you made it out to be there is much more underlying information that led you to that conclusion.

@@ibEscartian I agree with the 100 hours argument. ARR is pretty much a tutorial to those who played FFXIV the first time or for those who are new to MMOs. I tell veteran MMO players that I have no problem with them wanting to pay to skip ARR. Others might argue with Heavensward skiping as a crime, but I didn't really enjoy the game until I got to Stormblood. I know, it's a crime to say anything bad about Heavensward, but the story had me turn my camera off on stream because I was putting my head down and falling asleep trying to get through it. I don't knock people for loving it. I have Heavensward as the worst story to date, even lower than ARR. A lot of the FFXIV hardcores cause people to look at the game with either way too high expectations or disgust which reminds me too much of the WoW fans I would have to fight off over the previous 17 years. FFXIV is great to just relax with, go through the story, and barely any human interaction which makes it more of an RPG than an MMO, but that 12.99 sub instead of the 14.99 sub definitely makes the overall investment better.
