"Raise players that can assist you in raising other players first like Red Mage, Summoner, and other healers" YES! 100% YES! I'm a SMN main, and it annoys me so much when the party is near wiping and people prioritize team members who can't help raise the party.

I always raise RDM first (if they are there) then smn….. (due to rdms ability to dual cast raise )

Speaking as an actual new player, just a week in im level 54, this was extremely confusing, its far to complex for me, and its a beginners guide, I dont think I will touch healing for a long time, Im currently playing Samurai, which I heard was hard, but it was leagues easier for me to understand then this :P That aside, its clear you put a lot of effort into this, and this was just my opinion, good work :)

You don’t have to understand it in one go! Give it a few more watches, rewind things you’re not clear on. And most importantly, you’re still very fresh in the game. A lot of things will click more after some more flight hours. So while it might seem overwhelming now, I promise if you come back after a while and tackle things one step at a time that it will make sense! As for Samurai vs healing. Healing in unorganised groups or random partyfinder groups can be somewhat chaotic and difficult, where as a DPS you just do your own thing. This is why in organised groups, healing is easier and DPS more difficult, and in unorganised groups it’s flipped.

It’s not too bad! It’s just planning in your healing/mit usage and seeing when it comes off cooldown again. I’m sure you can do it 💪

Depending in the content, basically every role has their spreadsheets. Healers, tanks and dps..

The only bad thing about this guide is that it ends. Very helpful advice though. I started healing criterion yesterday with some friends as SGE, and it is my first contact healing some decently "complex" content, as you are the only healer and if you die... then rest in pieces 🤣

I have played healer before but then took a big break from the game. Came back to it recently with my partner wanting to play and I feel pretty rusty as a healer. From your experience, in terms of level 50 content, what spells would you prioritze on WHM and what health ranges on the tank would you recommend using them at? E.G. Cure 2 at 50% hp.

Wow the comments on this video is interesting.... Great Guide and spot on tips and advice. I'd say it's more a comprehensive guide rather than beginners, but learning how to heal can be done from level 15 and onward. It really hurts dungeons and trials when healers do not DPS, I've gotten to the point where I will blacklist healers that stand around doing nothing if they have any job above level 80. It's just hurting the group to much and people get really offended when you point out that the healer should weave in dps. It is not any more complex to heal than it is to DPS or tank, it's just a different action priority. You should never be wasting a global cooldown regardless of job.

Man, I need a preguide. Like, do I click on a player's plate and then heal or do I click on them? Can I focus dps on boss and heal or do I need to target healer and then target boss and so on.

You’ll have to click on a person to heal them. Usually in the party list. As for targeting the boss, you can either use tab targeting to target back or bind the “target previous target” option

Global cooldowns and off global cooldowns. Spells such are cure trigger a short 2,5 cooldown which locks you out of casting another GCD action. OGCDs, like assize, can still be used while locked out though. Thats the main difference.

I have three healers and only mildly proficient in them. Whenever i see so many videos such as these that seem to focus on dpsing and then weaving in heals in between, no way i can do it. I played a healer in other mmos and everyone was reactive healing and as a healer all i did was heal and buff as needed. Dps and heal.. get the fuck outta here.

The key words in your comment are “other mmo”. FFXIV doesn’t design their healers or fights in the same was other mmos do. Reactive healing isn’t really a thing here other than moments where you are truly blind progging a fight.

What's the issue? Just press your singular damage button instead of doing nothing between heals. You don't need to be perfect, but it's pretty noticeable if you're not contributing to dps.

I don't understand the mentality at all. You are a healer. Why would you need to maximize your dps? Seems like completely unintuitive healer gameplay to me.

That’s a valid question as other MMOs don’t subscribe to this same design concept. Due to how hard your damage spells hit, you can greatly reduce the kill time of a boss by contributing to the total raid dps. In some cases you can even skip mechanics by doing so. That said, your actions deal this much damage with a reason and early on in high end content (like a newly released extreme, savage, or current expansion ultimate encounter) you are required to deal roughly 15% of the party’s dps with your co healer. If you don’t then it will be difficult to meet enrage timers. Naturally healing comes first, a dead party member is a bigger dps loss than a dropped GCD. That said, maximising your dps will result in smoother progression. Examples of endwalker fights where this was relevant: p3s, p4s, p8sp1, p11s, p12s, dsr, top

There isn't a single MMO where you dont maximize dps as healer unless you're playing in casual content. FFXIV if anything makes it easier than most MMOs to weave in dps.
