In the novel... I think... The reason why the sheriff didn't like Rambo was because the sheriff was a Korean war vet. Korean war vets didn't get the recognition or attention that Vietnam war vets got. The sheriff felt cheated. So he'd hassle any Vietnam vet he met.

Basically the same treatment most vietnam vets faced on their return home.

Absolutely the Polices Ego plus police brutality ie fire hose and the old Sgt’s attempted murder of Rambo with a rifle “I am going to kill that soldier boy” outside the police station, the situation escalated rapidly.

the book expands that there was a deep seated conflict between the Sheriff and Rambo. Korean War vet vs Vietnam vet. He just felt so aggrieved by Rambo's status as a Vietnam vet being seemingly more important and remembered than his own as a korea vet. A war that is forgotten and ignored in favor for all sob stories of vietnam vets. Everyone knows of Vietnam, but Korea? People barely know there was a war there in the first place or confuse it with vietnam. The Sherrif was never going to give him a fair chance.

The "generation gap" between Rambo and Teasle was an apparent theme in the book. It was barely touched upon in the movie.

It was a close fight at the end, Teasel was expecting the attack from below, but his firing skill and prowess just weren't up to Rambos.

@@VinnySuccessJesusfam How do you know he had absolutely no money? That was never established in the movie. And he could have asked the restaurant owner for food in exchange to clean the place up or do dishes for a couple hours to pay for the food. Or ask a stranger for charity.

@@thomas.parnell7365 This is why the book is even more intense. Teasle is not just a small town sheriff but a Korean war veteran. Gives their duel an extra element. I highly recommend the book.

In the book Rambo was more terrifying

@@jillesguzman3333 That’s an interesting angle too. Perhaps supposed to show the difference in American public perspective on their respective wars and veterans. With the Korean war being rather classical and overall basically a win even though the north ultimately was not defeated, whereas the vietnam war was a thankless slog that was a lost cause in the end and they needed to retreat because the costs outweighed the gains. That’s perhaps the perspective on vietnam veterans, being outcasts that lost the war they fought. Although I don’t know how accurate that is since the korean war probably was very PTSD inducing too and had a lot of trench warfare towards the end. But it was very mobile in general and didn’t last as long. But the way the movie does this is interesting too, a sheriff who thinks he’s the boss of this town who can just order and bully around everyone and thinks he’s the hardest guy around. But when faced with an actual war hero his insufficiencies are visible

Rambo in a book is more of an asshole, who kills officers and blows up the city. Also Teasle was veteran of Korean War not an average sheriff of nowhereville.

This one is timeless for sure , the mid 70's to the early 80's was peak cinema . Nothing about this movie is portrayed as ridiculous like modern movies . Is First Blood 100% realistic ? No its not , but it's not over the top .

yeah, i always thought the disconnect was odd when the series began as a, although a little fantastical, compelling message about the treatment of vietnam veterans to just a bunch of gore and killing lol it's weirdly ironic given how this movie is pretty obviously anti-war

The difference is, First Blood was written by David Morrell, a university professor, with no idea that it would ever be a movie. The other ones were written at Sly's request, specifically to become movies.....

Can you imagine if he would have treated him to breakfast, and tried to find out what was aching him? But it would have made a boring movie lol.

@@fumarate1 Best case scenario: Teasle spent months in rehab due to multiple 308 wounds to his legs, and had plenty of time to think about what he might have done differently. Worst case scenario: he died from his wounds and didn't learn anything.

@@deanladue5367 Teasle didn't do anything, not that can be proven anyway. His deputies, mainly Galt (who was dead) were the ones who actually abused him. All Teasle did was attempt to chase a drifter out of town, which was kind of accepted practice at the time.

Right? Some time ago i watched a clip of some guys playing lasertag. The playfield was an abandoned farmhouse with some woods surrounding it and they invited a member of GSG9 (German elite police unit). They played a basic deathmatch. Now thse guys were all experienced players, but the GSG9 guy made i think over 30 "kills" before someone got him the first time. It was intresting to see his vision from his bodycam, no camping, always moving, great use of cover, high precision shooting. Funny thing is, the same works for most videogame shooters as well. You dont need to have the best reflexes or the best aim. If you know how to move well, which ways to go, you can still get a lot of work done.

The sheriff should have known, given that he was a highly decorated ex soldier himself. That's the worst thing about him, really. A civilian might have been ignorant, but a man with a Purple Heart and Silver Star should have understood the hell Rambo had been through.

Actually they didn't. The bulldozer broke down and he took his own life. It took the police several hours to break through the armour to get to the cab due to it being a homemade composite of steel plate and concrete that not even their armour-piercing rounds could penetrate.
