Ppl don't realize you can draft at pretty low speeds with the correct shape of the body of the race vehicle. I have drafted on mini cup cars which is half scale Nascar's literally on huge half mile asphalt oval tracks and have drafted on dirt oval track go karts and full sized asphalt race ars as well drafting and aero dynamics is a factor in alot of forms of racing noatte the speeds
The Ecuadorians race somewhat similar Caretta's. No suspension and slightly larger tires. Speeds up to 75 + and usually the whole bunch leaves at once. Search "Coches de Madera"
That’s awesome. That people somewhere in this world still race like that. I haven’t seen this kind of racing anywhere in our area anymore and it used to be big back in the 70s.
I ran a Soap Box Derby in 1963....this brought back great memories!! Congratulations from Atlanta on a great race, great drafting by both cars and a handshake at the end!!!!!!!! just AWESOME!!!!!!!!
A full size Pinewood Derby! In theory, if each car is perfect and driven perfectly, they should finish at exactly the same time. Incredibly small differences in engineering and driving must make the difference. Looks like fun.
That's not correct since both cars cannot occupy the same space therefore competition for the best line must be a factor as well as timing of the slipstream moves and the effect of the uneven road surface on each car.
@@TWW-zk9gw That's why I said if the cars are driven perfectly, which in the real world is not likely to happen. And in a perfect world, the track would not favor either side, which again is unlikely. The keys to success appear to be minimize friction and best use the available acceleration, which, in the theory, should be exactly the same for each car.
Can you imagine this down the back side of Big Bear down into Palm Springs. You could hit unbelievable speeds and some of the corners will surely get your attention. This is awesome!
That was exceptionally close! Loved it.. Couldn't hurt to learn drafting in those open wheel "pinewood derby" carts.... I'd actually like to know the specs and rules.. Big difference in wheel size and body profile... Either way... I've never seen this before... Thanks!
very equal cars, the one in the rear could draft, very cool , I did soap box derby in the 60’s so i wish i could get in on this but i think it is not in usa👍
Used to have similar races in Bisbee, AZ years ago. Entrants would come from all over North America to achieve the fastest time past Castle Rock and right down Main St.! Good times!
What a quiet and great race. Nobody could complain about this type of racing... Because it has Zero emissions..but l suspect that Europe would find something to say and produce a law outlawing it .... It's polluting..the atmosphere..😅😅 Maybe new FIA laws on F1 cars too🤔😅😅
Good race and the guy on the left almost pulled it out. Maybe next year his slip shot is right behind AND NEXT to the guy as he gets the extra inch. Also next time shave that styrofoam sticking up on the right. Airstream wise it might have been that extra inch. I really enjoyed watching this gravity race... I'm not even sure why but it was actually exciting. Next year maybe they'll have a drone following right behind videotaping in 360 circles around has it travels down the hill. Lol
As a person who has raced just about ever asphalt and dirt oval race car there is for some reason this looks like it would be a blast and i would love the challenge of this cause you jave nk motor to tely on if you make a mistake its detrimental to the rrst pf ypur race
