After a year of touring the U.K. The talented cast of The Osmonds- A New Musical waved a final farewell to an emotional audience in Llandudno. So many Osmond Family fans have followed this show around on tour reliving the excitement of their youth in the 70s whilst joyfully sharing the experience with so many fan friends who also ‘get it’.
A story told from the perspective of @Jay Osmond, drummer and middle child of the performing Osmond family includes highs (strong family values, huge record sales and the hearts of teenagers across the globe) and lows (military style discipline, compromising their rock n roll talents and preferences to support financially profitable bubble gum pop of younger siblings and then losing that $80 million fortune to dodgy advisors).
The cast clearly enjoyed a great rapport with each other and their audience in a show bursting with Osmond songs and nostalgia.
But my most personal connection was with the part of Wendy from Manchestoh. From the moment her teenage heart felt compelled to write to her favorite Osmond about how he inspired her, Wendy’s place in Osmond history was that of so many of us in the audience and the actor played it to perfection, right up to the moment when, as a grown up woman with adult children of her own, she was reduced to a bit of a blubbering wreck upon finally meeting her teen idol. In that moment we were ALL “Wendy from Manchester, your number one fan”.
You may notice the audience holding up cards, they said ‘I’m Wendy from (wherever the holder is from). During the finale the actor playing Wendy spotted all the cards and looked delighted with the recognition and importance of her part.
This clip starts at the end of “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother and ends at the end of an incredibly moving finale.
