Here is my 3rd and final video dedicated to VR Covers. In this one I summarize my experience with all of them and make firm recommendations on which ones are good and which one isn't.
Spoiler: I really like the thin foam replacement. I really don't like the newest memory foam+cloth version. Links below.

I just got mine for Christmas as well, along with a lot of gifted games from some very nice friends of mine. It's been the best Christmas in my life so far, especially since I got to let all of my family and relatives to try it out for the first time. Every single one of them were blown away and were having a blast, even though they could only have the standing experience. It was THAT good for them.

I don't know what happened with you, but either you're being really harsh against it, or your unit was messed up. The vast, VAST majority of everyone who has a Vive has been blown away by the experience, and is happy to replay it for many hours. There's a huge community on Reddit, and all of them love their Vives. I tried one myself, and it was surreal. Unlike any other experience I've ever had, and I'm planning on getting one soon. I hope your experience hasn't ruined VR for you. See if any of your friends have a Vive, and see if they would let you try it. If not, you can look up places where you can demo it.

Please don't get any leather VIVE covers. The leather won't soak up your sweat and will cause it to drip into the vive, killing it. Most of vive sweat damage are causes by the covers not soaking up the sweat. You don't want to go through HTC's pisspoor customer service. Trust me.

@@KiffenderBewaehrungsversager, I spent more than a month and a half without my vive struggling through HTC's garbage CS. They DO NOT COVER SWEAT DAMAGE. I got a 50% discount after arguing for upwards of a week (it took 20ish days for them to give me a diagnostic the HTC representative told me THE VIVE IS NOT SWEAT RESISTANT) and I ended up paying $135 and waiting for another week for the device's return. now I don't have warranty coverage and im out $135 because I sweat when playing their games.

Matthew Rothmann WHAT, i broke my vive and they answered my email 2 times a day, even more than apple does in my case, they fixed my vive free even tho it was my fault it broke it was all sorted out in about 4 days + the 2 weeks it took for shipping and repair

I'm a college student that just got the vive (about a month now), live in a suite and play with multiple friends. This has really given me some things to think about. originally I was going to go with one that absorbed sweat and could be washed, because I was under the impression that it was BETTER for the vive foam to absorb the sweat so that it wouldn't get into the electronics. After seeing this I'm not as rejecting of the waterproof labels on covers. this was the best answer I could've found, so thank you very much for this info.

Don't get a waterproof cover. Everyone who had sweat damaged their Vive has used one of those waterproof ones. Get an absorbent one.

Love these videos. I might try a 6mm one at some point. But for now I've ordered 1.5mm foam and some low profile Velcro to make my own. I tested my vive without a cover at all, and the image clarity has such an improvement when the lenses are that close that I had to try the smallest cover I could first

haha glad you appreciate it. That's one of the nice side effects of making less than $1/day from youtube. Trying to milk you guys for extra minutes of watch time really doesn't do anything for me ^_^

Bought the recommended one for no glasses and it "feels" better than the default but I think it gets hotter faster. I think the trade off is fair and can be dealt with by adjusting the mask every so often to let air in and have a fan on. I appreciate the suggestion though, the material feels much better.

Just wondering. The ones that you don't have to wash because they don't absorb the sweat. Where does the sweat go then? Does it go down your face or build up inside the Vive?

when you say "the smaller one has a wider FOV, do you mean wider then the standard vive spacer or just wider then the thicker one you can buy? can you clarify?

The 6mm pad gets your eyeballs just a bit closer to the lenses than any other solution short of no pad at all(Not recommended...ouch). The thicker replacement pad is about the same as the stock from an FOV perspective.

thanks for your video- I've had the 6mm one you recommend for some time now but I find after awhile the pressure on my face hurts too much and I have to stop using the Vive. do you have any suggestions for best alternative or feedback on that (I don't need to wear glasses with my Vive)? are these equivalent to narrow or wide foam pieces that come with the vive.. i have light bleed around the nose area on the narrow vive piece and use the wide one, although that might be an issue with the nose thingy instead

Have you tried the 18mm Velour one? You didn't mention it, so I don't know if it's newer than this video or not. I like the idea of the comfort, but not sure if it'll be good for someone that wears glasses or not. Can't really seem to find reviews on that one.

Would you be able to point me to where I could get a cover for the Oculus DK2. I find the foam on my DK2 headset irritates my face. Also I would like a softer foam because the DK 2 presses on my face a bit too much.

I'd like to see the 6mm VR cover that you recommended with a nose piece attachment, so we can cover up the nose gap. Honestly, I think less play in the nose will give me less of the pinch on the sides, which puts me into full mouth breather mode. Blah.

They come in a 2 pack and I haven't found a use for the second one yet. Take a pair of scissors, needle and thread to that slacker :D

Just got the 6mm cover for my vive, and I find that it distorts the image because my eyes gets too close to the lenses. When I look at something that is supposed to be straight, like walls, they bend when I pan my head around. I really don't think you are supposed to be that close the the vive lenses. Another frustration I have with the cover is that I can feel my eyelashes touching the lenses when I blink. Maybe the 14mm is okay, but I can't recommend the 6mm cover.

VR Cover doesn't seem to fit over the leather foam & the leather foam seems to stick out or cover a quarter of top eyesight & obscure nostrils when more inward.

I've been having some problems with the Vive. The first game I got was job simulator. it worked perfectly without any problems. But, as soon as I bought hotdogs, horseshoes, and hand grenades, for some reason, the Vive headset displayed the Steam Vr screen or the Htc Vive hub (the one that shows boarders and says "this is real") she my monitor displayed the actual game being played. both displays moved in yime, but the Vive aS atl in the hub while the monitor showed the game

I found that the VR Cover Pleather is a skin irritant for me. I felt a rash starting within a couple hours of play. I wish there were a better cloth option that I could just throw in the washing machine.

quick and to the point, love it. However beware 3rd party accessories, they void your warranty. Also i would not use anything that can't absorb sweat. I'd stick with the stock HTC face pad. it's designed for the Vive and does what it is supposed to do, absorb sweat and keep it away from your HMD. I bought a 2nd pad from HTC and just swap them when one needs cleaning.

Honestly you do need beer cover or any letter replacement because with the sweat it gives you a rash whatever it's called I don't know so so you probably need to replace it later in the future

I ordered the original waterproof cover and mines were defective and not fitting properly at all. My friends ordered some too and his are clearly fitting fine. when we tried them. Their support just answer the first message with generic answer then ignore every damn message after. Pissing me off. I wanted to get the foam you suggest later but the lack of answer make me not want to.

I have what you might call a Roman nose, and i suspect a thinner pad would make the Vive sitting on my nose even worse. I have to get the top strap just right or it's pretty uncomfortable. if anything I'd need a nose pad. the whole system needs looking at for sure, I'm noticing more as my play times increase. these seem expensive too but I guess it's very niche for now.

Alright, i do want to purchase one of these, as i got a vive from my family. (really happy about it, loving all the games i have) I'm the primary user of it, and i wear contacts so the glasses are not an issue. My mom loves the vive as well, but she has glasses, so should i get the 6mm or the 14mm replacement?

I would probably go with the 14mm if she will be playing often. As someone else commented below, the Vive's lens depth is adjustable however even if that allows the glasses to fit, its a bit awkward moving it in and out. The FOV gain for the 6mm is not THAT huge to warrant the effort if you will be switching out often. My wife only plays sparingly and when she does, I just slap on the thicker pad on and she's good to go.

I have all the showed products by myself, but I would recommend the 6mm for use with glasses. I have glasses too, and the 14mm piece make the vive so narrow, that my glasses wont fit in...

If it's not too late you can contact us through the contact page on our website and ask for a mixed set. It might take longer to arrive depending on where you live, but then you could have both.

I personally find the 6mm uncomfortable for long play sessions (maybe it's my caveman face structure) so I find that the 14mm at a close adjustment is much more comfortable than the 6mm at a far adjustment. Also, I bought a mixed set (one 6mm and one 14mm) which is great. Best of both worlds and swapping them out takes seconds. I contacted them to see if they'd sell me a mixed set and it took much longer for shipping. Totally worth it in my opinion.

Thanks! Glad you were satisfied. Just an FYI for anyone reading this. The reason it takes longer is that our fulfillment center in the US is stocked with prepackaged sets so when you order a mix set we have to package and ship it from Thailand. For people outside of North America and Europe it was probably shipping from there anyway and won't take any longer.

Forgot to let you know. Used it and actually found it to be very comfortable, didn't feel stiff at all. Was nice to have the very soft material on my face as a change to the waterproof faux leather stuff. I'll still use the wipeable ones for demoing and sweaty sessions, but definitely using this new one for the slower paced sessions. I wonder if they changed the type of foam they're using, maybe you had an early version or something *shrugs*

You have to admit the original cloth version has a cumbersome mounting method. It would have made more sense having double sided Velcro on it and attaching the cloth on the foam, before attaching the foam with cloth to the Vive.

me and my buddy would use my vive for hours. The foam was like an ocean, it grossed me out but I still used it. Mg buddy didnt give a shit. Now I have a leather material for my padding.

The reason to get the cloth cover is if you sweat a lot. Otherwise the fake leather ones don't soak up sweat. This bricked my vive.

WARNING !! ...... An update with my experience, I originally went with the 6mm and was very happy, but I wear glasses and to my dismay I've marred the lenses on the Vive. I didn't think they were touching ...so be very very careful. I ultimately went back to the OEM and use the cloth covers. Provides the most comfort for my situation

Bought the fake VR covers (made by Vio) on Amazon for $7 and the fake leather one is p. good. Although, it's about 9mm so it's in the middle and I guess they raised the price to $12.

I have a question. My school has (2) Vive(s) that students can loan for a small period. I'm getting an overpriced laptop for school (+-€2.5k), just cuz I can. I plan on loaning a vive for a 'few' weekends in the upcoming years, and something like this seems nice. But, I really don't want to spend $30,- on a simple cover (jeez, this economy has gone down the drain). Are there cheaper alternatives then the ones you show here?

why would you ever want leather on your face? if you have a play session of over 20 minutes, it would leave you super sweaty and give your massive breakouts.... god forbid you play it in the summer :(

that first cloth option cover is TERRIBLE, don't get it! they don't tell you it won't fit with glasses, and it just hangs over the original pad, it doesn't even have elastic or anything to properly hold it on
