@@Just_a-guy While this is probably true, unfortunately its hard to know for sure. I'd just as easily accept that Iroh maybe didn't know the exact details but had some general idea of things he had been up to from hearing from other white lotus members. For example, we know Iroh was the reason Zuko was sent that letter to go learn about his great gradnfathers; but Iroh didn't do that personally, and Iroh didn't personally go recover that hair artifact from Roku's island. It was very likely another member/s of the the white lotus who was acting on his behalf. Whoever that was may very well have stuck around in the Fire nation after Iroh's escape to continue gathering intel on ongoing plans and events and let Iroh know that Zuko confronted the fireloard and had seemed to have left the fire nation. Its a nice sentiment that might be true, but we can't know for sure Iroh didn't have any idea at all what Zuko had done between now and then.
If you rewatch the seasons a few times, you'll start to notice a lot of mirror situations from the beginning. When they cover the final episode, go back to the first episode and look for similarities/differences in shapes, colors, and reverse situations for characters.

Kyoshi ironically gave the best advice if you think about , she doesn't gaslight her actions and didn't really tell anng to sacrifice his ideals. Only that justice can bring peace .
Except that Justice, by definition, meant killing Ozai. Justice DEMANDS the death of a mass murderer, both in fiction and in real life. Any punishment less than that is not just. Her whole point is that she didn't kill her enemy purposefully, but she would have if it was necessary. People always try to sugar coat what she said, but she was SPECIFICALLY indicating that she thought Aang should kill Ozai, and there's no way around it.
@@kingofbudokai The type person kyoshi is , she would have brutally told him to kill ozai and be decisive without any hidden meanings but she left it purposely open by generalizing justice. This is my interpretation.
yeah she wasn't a psycho by the time this episode released, people know kyoshi as a murdering menace from the books, which mostly comes from aangs comment about how he knew he shouldn't have asked her, honestly yangchen is way more direct about murdering ozai

Dante Basco’s voice acting was so good in that scene with Zuko and Iroh, no matter how many times I have watched that scene, I cry…….not tear up but bawl! Zuko had no clue how Iroh would react and to see Iroh sweep him up in a hug hit all the feels!
It's worth approaching Zuko's reunion with Iroh from his perspective, it really adds a lot to it, I find: last time Zuko disrespected an elder, he had his face permanently scarred and was sent on a then-impossible task to find and capture the Avatar (whom remember: not many expected to actually still be alive after 100 years). Trauma lingers. So when Zuko says to Iroh he doesn't know what he needs to do to earn his uncle's forgiveness, he's fully prepared for another impossible task, and because he loves his uncle, *he's willing to do it.* When Iroh responds with nothing but love and kindness, THAT is what Zuko should have seen before, but the poor kid hasn't seen that in his life from anyone other than his uncle since his mother disappeared.
There is mention of Koh stealing the face of the women he loved in season 1 when Aang had to confront him with no emotions, it comes full circle here and you get to see this avatar for the first time.
happy you guys caught on to Iroh's arc here, because it all happens mostly off-screen but is still extremely satisfying, he was on the wrong side of this war and was no doubt responsible for bad things happening in the name of the fire nation during the siege of ba sing se, but losing his son there set him up for this whole entire journey that eventually concludes with him coming back years later deciding he has to save ba sing se from the fire nation
You guys might really enjoy the Avatar novels! Kyoshi has 2 and some touch on Kuruk’s backstory, Yangchen has 2 books, and Roku’s book came out in July! Kyoshi seems like the menace out of the bunch, but I’m gonna say that so far Yangchen takes the cake 😂
Realize that Zuko saved that sandal since episode 7 of book 1. He had it when the ship blew up, and when he went undercover on Zhao's ship. He had it when he was Zuko alone. He had it when he went to confront his father.
this is probably my favorite episode. aang looking to past avatars for help just to hear from an airbender "this isn't about you, you can never achieve total enlightenment" not to mention the iroh reunion. peak tearbending
Bumi literally saw Aang return from a 100 year stay in an iceberg and to top it off, he was still the 12 year old kid he knew as a kid, of course he has faith in him to return from anything.
Iroh: "I cant face Ozai! History will see it as two siblings fighting for the throne! Now go Zuko! Face your sister for the throne!!" Sometimes Iroh's wisdom is questioning lol.
I think because at that point, Iroh had done some damage too. Remember, he was a war hero for the fire nation (even if he failed ba sing se). He had probably done some prominent things already, and felt like the world wouldn’t see it as a good deed, but one corrupt leader being taken down by another corrupt leader, especially if they are family. Zuko was tasked with finding the avatar, so no one knew anything of his deeds, unless you came across him. Azula was actively on the battlefield, so people definitely remember her. Now it would appear that the “quiet and failure of a prince” is taking down the prodigious corrupt heir to the throne.
No. The Avatar is taking down the fire lord because the Avatar is a neutral world ambassador. Iroh vs Ozai is just two siblings fighting for power. Zuko and Azula both have legitimate claims to the throne after a power vacuum. Zuko being the first born son and endorsed by the Avatar. And Azula chosen by the current fire lord. History will not see this as senseless violence like Iroh vs Ozai. Its a legit question. Now that the Avatar has ended the current fire lord, who has the right to succeed him? And you can't say its Azula and Zuko fighting for power. They are not the ones who took out the old fire lord. They are trying to figure out who has the right to succeed. Some countries might hold an election. Some countries might have a constitutional court case. Fire nation has a battle. And before you start judging, remember, the current democratic candidate for president got 0 votes. She was just endorsed by the current president. No election. No court case. I would have at least preferred a no rules mma fight to see who the democratic nominee would be. So basically Azula vs Zuko is just a proxy for Ozai vs Aang. If Azula were to win, it would be Aang vs Azula.
I only watched this series recently and one character I had heard a lot about was Zuko, and he was one of those rare characters who actually lived up to the hype. What a beautifully written character he is, his journey is just so well earned and satisfying. Can't wait for the upcoming eps reaction, one of my all time favorite fight from any media is up next 🙌

In an extras comic Toph and Bumi have a duel to see who's the best earthbender in history. It ends up in a draw since the rest of the benders there had to stop them cause they were destroying the camp lmao.
Aang consulting his past lives is one of my favorite scenes in the show and I wish they did more of that. But hearing Yangchen say “all life is sacred,” knowing what she actually did is hilarious to me.

Someone may have already mentioned this but the Lion-turtle was foreshadowed during the library episode :) So Ange was definitely on the right track with this turtle prediction!
Azula is an incredible character, emotionaly and mentally she is so well written, I understand not just not hating her but loving her to as a character, I love azula so much.

I thinks it’s SO interesting that Zuko immediately asked Katara for help with defeating Azula. Zero hesitation, didn’t even need to think about it. Their bond has come a long way…
I mean, wouldn't you take a waterbender, literally a firebender's greatest weakness (not counting an eclipse lol), to fight azula if you thought you needed help? That's just the logically correct choice, regardless of relationship level.
Zuko is the prodigal son. His fears came from the fact that the last time he "disrespected" a father figure, he was scared. This time, he came to his father on his knees begging for forgiveness and was given it unconditionally.
There is a comic that fills in sone more story’s of the group during episodes ect and these one part where toph and bumi declare them selves as the greatest earth benders in the world and they are literally going to have a fight to determine who is the best it’s well interesting
A lot to unpack here. Zuko's reunion with Iroh is just perfect. The contarst between Iroh and Ozai, when Zuko feels shame and asks for forgivnesss, his father burnt him. When 3 years later he finds himself saying sorry to his uncle, he is met with only unconditional love. The lion turtles are actually mentioned in Wan Shi Tong's library. And finally, Aang saying "I've certainly never used it to take a life is a bit of a meme in the community. Because this kid definitley racked up bodies. Ha made an avalanche in the northern air temple, he froze tge water over ubderwtaer soldiers in Ba Sing Se, we even spend a whole episode setting up how Kiyoshi splitting the earth and Chin falling is deadly, and not 5 minutes later Aang yeats off a Rhino rider the very same cliff. It's all in jest of course, but it's funny to think about.
I like to debate the point about him killing bc its obvious that ppl in avatar can take heavy hits. Aang was sent through a wall in the crossroads of destiny. And we all saw the blind bandit episode. I think Chin fell into the lava that we saw when Kyoshi created the split 💀. Also we saw that guy he yeated off the cliff a few episodes later and he was fine.. One thing I think he did kill tho was that vulture bee
i get the meme but it's been pretty much confirmed throughout the show that proper physics/biology doesn't exist unless it needs to lol, you don't jump 6 meters high like tai lee does no matter how good of a gymnast you are, you don't go through thick ass concrete wall no matter how tough you are etc. cartoon logic is very much a thing and aang def didn't kill anybody throughout the show still funny tho ^^

Roku told Aang his mistake was mercy. Kiyoshi said accidental death was no different than killing and she'd have done it. Kuruk said to be active, not wait for a solution to come to you like Aang did, and Yangchen said 'fuck your feelings, this is about the world.' Too many people try to twist what they're saying to make it sound like they weren't telling Aang to kill Ozai, that's wrong. They wanted him to do it and he would've had to if he didn't get granted the turtle ex machina.
Something funny, there is books about Kyoshi, Yangchen and Roku. For your surprise Yangchen (air nomad) is more aggresive than Kyoshi. Zuko has the best redemption story from fiction, and when you rewatch the series you can see how Iroh was always leading him to this path, in Basingse Iroh realize that Zuko has to do it on his own.
I think after the final you will even say that it is actually at least a Top 3 show of all time. For me it is the number one. because it is perfect in every detail
Well if it was up to Kyoshi, she would kill the firelord, kill the royal family and also bring balance by equalizing all the massacres the fire nation did on other nations. No one said avatar had to be peaceful, only the bringer of balance.
They said "A" Grand Lotus not "THE", odds are the other masters are considered "Grand Lotus" as well. Semantics but makes a difference when you are talking about a group that transcends the divisions of the 4 Nations, having multiple high ranking leaders than just one boss.
@@lightningg252 It’s a subtitle mistake. I didn’t really hear pakku completely, and the subtitles say “our grand lotus” implying that there was only one and it was iroh. After playing it back, I do hear him say A and not “our”.

Dunno if you noticed it, but the story of Zuko returning to Iroh is a common theme through history, mostly known in the Bible as the story of the Prodigal Son
They dont focus on it enough but a perfect circle moment of the episode is seeing zuko fly off on appa. After all thats happened seeing him my off on appa was jusy beautiful
Agreed. Kyoshi has an intense story and her power is raw, but I always have a deep respect for characters that /are/ capable of true empathy but also have enough control over it to dial it in at the right amount for any given situation. Which under some given situation comes down absolute zero.
I would like to clarify one thing before we get to the finale because there is a strong misconception about Aangs avatar state up to this point form casual fans who don’t do discussions like this and just some people who might have misunderstood what happen and the end of book 2. If Aang does go into the avatar state at this point in time it should be known. THAT AANG IS THE INENIN CONTROL, not the past avatars like before Seinfeld he already unlocked all his chakras but they got blocked cause if the lighting to the back but if he unlocks them again he is the one in control. Okay that’s all .
You guys cut out one of my favourite moments in this episode, when Katara comforted Zuko, before he was going to face Iroh. Katara seemed civil and friendly towards Zuko since The Southern Raiders, but in this episode we got to see for the first time that she actually started caring about him. And I just think that is a wonderful moment in the development of their relationship. Back in Ba Sing Se, comforting each other, but this time, Zuko is completely on their side and this time he will fight Azula on Katara's side.

the big misunderstanding about Aang's philosophy is that "it's about him". This is pretty wild coming from another Air Nomad since she was raised in it, and typically viewers just parrot Yangchen and agree. The finding another way, the vegan or vegetarianism, the respect and reverence of all life is never about the individual, when practiced correctly. It's about being an example, and putting better karma and power into the world. You think Buddhist philosophy is solely about the individual, that they never think of others or the entire human race? That's the entire point....to help guide the world. Like many other religions, faiths, or beliefs, there's always the main goal of all peoples practicing the one faith together. I'd say Buddhist and Hinduist philosophy is a touch better since it doesnt force anything and doesn't declare damnation to other people for taking a different path. In this season, Aang continuously applies the concern of his philosophy for other people, and the world, here, in the finale. It's a big worldview....it's never just about the lone practitioner, it's about the well-being of the world and ending destructive cycles. Iroh echoes this sentiment from his own position, talking about how the nature in which Ozai is defeated will be reflected in history just like any other major event. It's a nation's leader, a global war, a decision by the Avatar. No one's forgetting or missing how things resolve.
I love none of aang past lifes tells directly that he is need to kill ozai but still determined is his needs are subordinate and will have to do whatever it takes to protect the world english is not my first language so sorry for typos

Aang's self congratulatory patting his own back never fails to annoy me. All he wanted was to be told by the past avatars is that "you are right". And I love that it is the air nomad avatar (Yangchen) that bluntly flattens that. It is good writing, and it isn't even the character's fault: He was taught how to be a Air nomad monk. He was not taught to be the avatar. He missed all of that complexity of his role in the world because he was told too young--12 rather then 16--and due to the war starting/being frozen
Self-congratulatory what? Are you for real? Aang is not holding on to some pride, he is holding on to Air Nomad tradition because he is the LAST airbender. If he sacrifices that to the Avatar role, then the Air Nomads are finally gone for good and Sozin has really wiped them out.
Friendly challenge to Carlie: pronounce the word 'no'. Not 'nouwoh', 'no'. (dont take this too seriously, just like how british people pronounce 'bottle of water' as "bo'o'o'wota" i find the Australian 'no' hilarious. Especially if you add the extra 'white girl end vowel' on top of it!)
Aang: "I've never used bending to take a life!" Meanwhile, in reality, Aang has killed DOZENS of people with his bending so far, and that's not even counting what happened with the fish spirit fusion at the north pole. Aangs unreasonable unwillingness to kill Ozai is by far the weakest story beat in the show. It comes out of nowhere and it doesn't make sense. I mean, in fairness, Aang's a 12 year old kid, so on some level it makes sense for him to A: not be thinking as rationally as an adult would, and B: be averse to killing generally speaking, but He should have already understood what the other avatars were saying a long time ago. You have to do what is needed regardless of how you feel about it, and frankly, until the random deus-ex-machina ass pull that is "you can permanently seal off people's bending for some reason" plot device showed up, that meant killing Ozai. If that hadn't happened, and he STILL refused to kill Ozai, it would have been extremely selfish and immoral to do so, because letting any version of Ozai that can still bend live is the same thing as willfully endangering innocent lives.

@LuminousArc92 so this is a joke making fun of Aang's perspective. All the avatars said "idc kill that man" but only Kiyoshi gets. "I knew I shouldn't have asked Kiyoshi." This is because of the trial where Aang was being charged with the murder of Chin the conquerer. Kiyoshi personally came to say "Yes I did it and I'd do it again." She is the only avatar that Aang has a violent view of so even though they all tell him the same advice just wrapped differently he views hers as predictable. This a very common joke from his scene on release. Don't operate under the assumption that the reactors and everyone in the comments has read all the comics and wiki details spoiling the series for them.
