After hearing Elvis sing it art turned to someone else in the audience and asked”what do we do now?” I guess he liked Elvis’ rendition and it is great as Elvis was a deeply emotional singer. But art and Paul and company really take it home.
Simon and Garfunkel deserve to be in the rock and roll music hall of fame just for the work they did on this song. Paul wrote the song art sang the song. I can't understand how a person had it within himself to create such a masterpiece of poetry and music. And the thing is he did it over and over again.

Many have covered this song but it will never be as good as the original written and performed by Simon and Garfunkle. Art Garfunkle, the taller one, has the silky smooth voice and Paul Simon is considered by many to be a poetic genius. They were HUGE in the 60's and had numerous hit songs. I bought this album as soon as it came out when I was in 10th grade and played it 100's of times. It won 5 grammys including best song. You probably know the song Sound of Silence which has been covered by Disturbed and Pentatonix which was also written by Paul and was also a huge hit for SandG. I would encourage you to also listen The Boxer, Homeward Bound, Mrs. Robinson and many more. After they split up, Paul went on to write and perform many more hit songs. Also in 1981 they reunited to perform a concert in Central Park in NYC in front of 500,000 adoring fans which can be found on YT. I was touched by your reaction and wish you peace. It may be the most perfect song ever written. I've listened to it a thousand times (at least) and performed it live for many decades. Bridge Over Troubled Water always takes me where I wanna be.

You are so right about this song: it's all about friendship, loyalty, and, most especially, love. Paul Simon wrote this song, and Art Garfunkel (the taller of the two) sang it, with Simon adding his voice in part of the 3rd verse. This is the original version, and, to my mind, has never been, and never *will* be, equaled...Art Garfunkel's voice is just perfect for the lyrics. What a career two schoolboy classmates made! Both born in 1941, they attended elementary school together and two stats were made. I can’t fault you NASA for ‘’crying like a baby’’. I think music has a way to reach our emotions no matter how we might think we are somehow in charge of them. In the story 'The Little Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupery the title character says: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” I enjoyed your reaction very much. This is a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to friendship. Some, like me, read it in a more religious context. However you look at it, this is simply a timeless classic. Fifty-three years after it hit the top of the charts, we're still listening to it, discussing it, remembering how it helped us through a hard time. Art Garfunkel's gorgeous vocals just add to the beauty and lushness of the song. Many have covered it, but no one has ever done it better than the originator. Crying is probably the standard reaction to it, whether you're hearing it for the first time or the thousandth.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your dear friend. I too lost my best friend of 30 years last November. I am still gutted by his passing. You are so right. People need to take that little extra time to let these people know how special they are. How precious the time spent with them is. Because the finality of loss is total. When we lose someone who's always had our back, we can never replace them. But we can be that person for someone else. Doing so both honors them and continues their story here in the world. Is that enough? I don't know. It's just the best I've been able to manage.

The music that I grew up with. From the first time I heard this was 1970. I was only 9. As I matured the song took more and more meaning. This song inspired me to be kind and help people, to be their bride in times of hardship and sadness. Saw them live in the 80’s.....What a show .... no words will suffice as to just how well these two are together The tall guy is Art Garfunkel. The small dude is Paul Simon They both went onto have careers on their own .... They met in school and sang together for the first time at the age of 15......what a duo They have so many classics but my fav is SOUNDS OF SILENCE.
