I wanted to point out something to all. Take notice of all the kind’s of work done and how the machinery is maintained. CLEAN, LUBED REGULARLY, AND STORED WITH SOME THOUGHT IN MIND as to what’s to come tomorrow. Congrats I really enjoy your posts.
When I was first taught how to operate a piece of equipment it was explained to me that for most pieces of equipment cost at least twice as much an expensive Cadillac..So unless it a bucket , blade , track ,tire etc it better not touch F@#KING anything..Scratch marks on the paint better be from a chain pulling the equipment out when you get it stuck or you will be kicking stones down the Road….pretty sure Chris had the same conversation with his Granddaddy😉.
Unless people have followed this home project and all the planning and work Geoff, you and various crews have done; they have no idea how much detail is required for a project of this magnitude. Great job dealing with Mother Nature! 👍
That is a very smart decision Geoff and you made on using the abundance of clean aggregate for the backfill. Rock is high $$$$$'s now but it'll be cheaper than a future water problem needing repair. Well done gentleman.
95% compaction just dumping it in there. Beats trying to compact clay or heaping it in there and waiting for it to settle, though a good rain usually gets it there pretty quick. Plus clean stone will drain so much better.
@@BealyGood Yes great decision - As Shawn over there at Gate City Foundation Drainage says, Always Gravel for french drains ( not to mention the backfill here )
Static pressure on a wall could have been a big problem on filled with just clay, putting aggregate in for drainage and then backfilling with dirt on top is really smart. As I learned watching Let’s Dig 18 videos, Chris is practical and uses good old common sense!

Good to see you go crazy with the rock! In 1991 we built an earth contact home and although they weren't quite unicorns we were very cautious. We sprayed the foundation and stuck 2" foam board all the way around. We used hard pipe with holes as the footer drain and ran clean outs up 8' on the back and two sides just in case and then we put 4' of clean rock all the way around. We tied all the down spouts around to the front and tied them into two separate runs that go out about 200'. The house is almost 100' long and 30' deep with a 10/12 roof. 33 years later and when we have big down pours there are two places out in the front of the house that look like huge water main breaks with the amount of water that flows through the system. I'd say it worked well.

Chris I really appreciate how you move your machinery like your pants are on fire when you can. But as light as a butterfly when you need to. Keep up the good work and tell Mr. Bealy Good that I wasn’t sure what I thought about him at first but he does kinda grow on you after a while. You guys are just two ambitious guys trying to realize your dreams!
Precision work there Chris. The hurricane will be a good test for the drainage system, hopefully not too much water along the foundation. Be safe and carefull with the flooding issues.

those trailers are very cool and can be useful in certain situations (like Bealy's driveway) but as with everything there are tradeoffs. They weigh more relative to what they can carry than standard low boy, Have a higher center of gravity, and because the deck is higher your cargo cant be as tall. Additionally they almost all require a wet line on the tractor, and have more maintenance.
Nice job, that back fill rock should help out, and I would imagine having the building completely back filled in the near future is going to be so nice with being able to get around the job site now. Stay dry, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching the 953 go to work.
what impresses me the most about Chris and the work he undertakes is his meticulousness. It’s one thing to dig a borrow pit or slop mud out of a pond, but when it comes to finess and detail work with his equipment, he is an artist of excavation!
Love seeing both your and Geoff's video on this job, for his home, cause you can get both perspectives with the job at hand. after some chatting with one another using the larger excavator was a better deal along with the dozer as well for adding the stone...specially with hurrican Debby come your as as it was..
Crazy... Here (in about the middle of Sweden) we get on average some 23 inches of rain for the months of the year when it doesn't come as snow... 8-10 inches in a single downpour is downright insane and i see the need for drainage of the magnitude used here! Great job as always!
If we up here in Vermont gets more than 3" of rain we go into flood stage! Not sure how much rain we have gotten, but 2 times this summer parts of vermont washed down the brooks that turned into raging rivers! Houses went down, cars and some whole town's' washed away! If we got your 10" nothing would be left here! The last big big flood we got was in 1970 I think it was. But the 1927 flood was from a hurricane that come in right at NH/Maine and I have seen photos of that! That one was very bad. This Hurricane we got some bad wind and very little rain-- right here anyways. Rained the day before bad. But that was just a storm.
Backfill with gravel to grade is the recommended practise here. better drainage near the sub-surface walls than soil. The flower garden right beside the foundation / basement walls is a big source of water damage to underground walls.
I am glad to see that the high end of the structure got full rock fill to assist with drainage. Without a doubt, gravity and hydrostatic pressure would have been a factor at some point.
Hope it all drained out good, with all that rain you guys got !! You all have gotten a lot of freaking rain over the last few weeks, which never happens in the middle of Summer. I notice that, whenever the tracked equipment is unloaded, you don't wait for the air to build up before moving. Is that because the brakes are hydraulic, as opposed to air? Or is it just because you're only going to track slowly?
Man expensive backfill but thats the way it needs to be done its a shame gravel keeps on going up were about ready to get all the local guys to go on strike 😂 vulcan has a Monopoly going on in our area
